Black Violin on Tour

The wait is over. Grammy-nominated hip-hop duo Black Violin have announced more than 55 dates for their 2022 tour. Off the heels of their successful 2019 album Take the Stairs, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, the classically trained duo are eager to showcase their original style on the big stage. Audience members fawn over the raw talent displayed by the hip-hop group for their amazing performances that infuse classical arrangements from the violin and viola with modern 808's, high-hats and other genre-bending elements. "The concert had the audience clapping, waving, light shining, dancing and smiling," one audience member wrote in a review of their concert on Ticketmaster. Experience a diverse performance that features both original compositions from the group like the hit single "Stereotypes" from the album of the same name.

Black Violin Live in Concert

High school friends Kevin Sylvester (Kev Marcus) and Wilner Baptiste (Wil B) met in a Fort Lauderdale performing arts program as teens. While Sylvester plays the violin, Baptiste plays the viola and together they create a distinct sound that rocked the hip-hop community. Despite attending different colleges, the two gravitated back toward one another and decided to try their hand at music full-time. Their first taste of stardom came when they performed alongside Grammy winner Alicia Keys at the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. The duo used this momentum to provide musical support on tour for artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West. Baptiste also has musical credits on studio albums for hip-hop sensations Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B and Lil Wayne. In 2007, the duo released their self-titled debut album, and the follow-up, Classically Trained, a few years later. Their 2019 album Take the Stairs was nominated for a Grammy, the duo's first recognition. Most recently, Black Violin released their own spin on a Christmas album titled Give Thanks. In 2019, Sylvester, Baptiste and Phil Beaudreau founded their own label titled Di Versatile Music Group to promote the release of Take the Stairs, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Classical and Classical Crossover charts, and cracked the Top 10 on the Top New Artists chart and Hip Hop and R&B Chart.

    Great experience!

by woodstock on 3/26/24Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

If you enjoy musicians having a great time providing excellent music to their audience (and you can clearly see how much they enjoy being musicians), you need to see this group. Violinist, pianist, drummer and the guy that reverses records (yes, I'm older than 50 lol), are all excellent musicians. GO SEE THEM, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

    Disappointed

by Jessica on 3/26/24Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Violins were hard to hear. Drums, dj and keyboards were overly loud… nothing that could be helped, but patrons talked the entire time.

    Highly Recommend It

    by jquake1018 on 3/25/24Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

This wasn’t a concert. It was an experience. The lighting was great. The music was great. They invited the crowd to participate. They encouraged young musicians in the crowd to practice and become great.

Epic Show in a Small Space

by Sarah on 3/25/24Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

It was an AMAZING show and my family is now obsessed with Black Violin! We played a ton of their YouTube videos the next day in an attempt to relive the magic. My only suggestion would be to choose a bigger venue. Taft was too small and didn't have any elevators that we were aware of.

by Star on 3/25/24Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

I really enjoyed it and how they motorized the music with playing the violin 🎻. I liked the sound stage effects of the lights and just the sound quality of the instruments I can tell that they definitely were no amateurs have planned violin.

These guys are immensely talented and totally entertaing

by Nate from Cincinnati on 3/25/24Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

This show is perfect for anyone looking to expand their culture while enjoying an upbeat, uplifting performance. I took 10 members of my family which included my 89 year old father and my 12 year-old niece. Everyone in my family was totally entertained. By the time they played "Virtuoso"as the final number, everyone in my family was standing on their feet waving their hands in the air. My niece said it was the most fun she had ever had, and my 89 year old dad was still talking about his experience in church Sunday morning. I am so very happy that these gifted brothers have found their path, and I will make it a point to see them again when they return to Cincinnati. Fun for all ages and cultures does not begin to describe the universal appeal of this show.

    Amazing

by Joy on 3/24/24Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

I've been to 5 concerts in the past year and The Black Violin Experience was the best of the 5. The music was phenomenal and the atmosphere was great. I wish the crowd gave more energy but they get better towards the end. I told my friends who live in different states to check if Black Violin would be touring near them and said they should totally get tickets. I loved the solos from the band and the DJ as well. I can't wait to see these guys shred the violin again soon.

    Captivating and inspiring

by Lane on 3/24/24Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

I was amazed and fully entertained by these young men and their talents. It was not a dull moment being hyped up by their songs and styles mixed with their band (dj, drummer and pianist). My friend and I had a BLAST! I came in tired from being at work all day, but I immediately felt energized from their energy and stories. So inspiring for today and future musicians. They gave "speeches"of inspiration and encouragement for all that attended. They held our attention and fully entertained our senses with songs from the past and present.

This was my first black violin concert. I was not familiar with the group prior to going to the concert. My wife is an advent fan. I was upset that she had not shared the group with me before. It is amazing how they arrange the music. You can see the love and passion in hey have for what they do

by Twin on 3/23/24Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

Black Violin was beyond excellent. These gentlemen were nothing short of top tier. The whole show was a vibe. It was classic! My son absolutely loved the whole experience from beginning to end. I hope they come back to the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet so others may get experience it.
