Black Violin on Tour
The wait is over. Grammy-nominated hip-hop duo Black Violin have announced more than 55 dates for their 2022 tour. Off the heels of their successful 2019 album Take the Stairs, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, the classically trained duo are eager to showcase their original style on the big stage. Audience members fawn over the raw talent displayed by the hip-hop group for their amazing performances that infuse classical arrangements from the violin and viola with modern 808's, high-hats and other genre-bending elements. "The concert had the audience clapping, waving, light shining, dancing and smiling," one audience member wrote in a review of their concert on Ticketmaster. Experience a diverse performance that features both original compositions from the group like the hit single "Stereotypes" from the album of the same name.
Black Violin Live in Concert
High school friends Kevin Sylvester (Kev Marcus) and Wilner Baptiste (Wil B) met in a Fort Lauderdale performing arts program as teens. While Sylvester plays the violin, Baptiste plays the viola and together they create a distinct sound that rocked the hip-hop community. Despite attending different colleges, the two gravitated back toward one another and decided to try their hand at music full-time. Their first taste of stardom came when they performed alongside Grammy winner Alicia Keys at the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. The duo used this momentum to provide musical support on tour for artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West. Baptiste also has musical credits on studio albums for hip-hop sensations Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B and Lil Wayne. In 2007, the duo released their self-titled debut album, and the follow-up, Classically Trained, a few years later. Their 2019 album Take the Stairs was nominated for a Grammy, the duo's first recognition. Most recently, Black Violin released their own spin on a Christmas album titled Give Thanks. In 2019, Sylvester, Baptiste and Phil Beaudreau founded their own label titled Di Versatile Music Group to promote the release of Take the Stairs, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Classical and Classical Crossover charts, and cracked the Top 10 on the Top New Artists chart and Hip Hop and R&B Chart.
My daughter and I Loved the performance. They are really talented!
I discovered Black Violin only last year and have turned many family members and friends on to them. They did not disappoint in person! Very talented musicians. I would definitely see them again.
This was Me and my Wife's second time seeing them. We wish we can see them several times a year. They seem like great people. Always happy looking. Great show performance. Thank you all always.
Very impressed, A must see live. Enjoyed and will definitely go again if the opportunity arise.
We expected hearing a phenomenal performance by the violinist without all the other instrumental background distractions that were overshadowing. The drums, keyboard and mixer took away from the entire performance; not what We paid to see/hear. There was questions of if the Black Violin were really playing. It got to a point that attendees started to leave early well before the expected concert end time.
Outstanding performance all around. Would love to see more performances like this one.
it was my first experience i was not disappointed
Very unique experience I loved it! Whoever was on the drums and piano also need recognition!
Black Violin definitely finds their audience an experience! The event was simply amazing!!
The experience and the vibe was awesome . You guys are the best !!!!!
Excellent!! A night interaction with the audience. Young Black Men playing the violin outside the Box was REFRESHING. It is a must see and hear concert. Please come back to tri-city soon.
I recently had the pleasure of attending a Black Violin concert, and it was truly one of the most outstanding shows I've seen in a while. The way they made those violins 'talk' was simply mesmerizing. I've been a fan of Black Violin for years, but nothing compares to the experience of seeing them live and up close. I highly recommend Black Violin to anyone who has a deep appreciation for music. Their performance was not just a concert but a captivating experience that left my fiancé and me in awe. We had an absolutely wonderful time and would gladly see them perform again. If you have the chance, don't miss out on the opportunity to see Black Violin live!
My first time attending a violin performance. Gald I went. The artists were energetic, talented, inspiring and amazing performers. The show was amazing from start to finish. Audience was diverse even with regards to age range. Definitely will follow these artists.

The Black Violin Experience was just that… An experience. Kudos to Kevin Johnson and The Palace for bringing such wonderful talent to Albany.
They were terrific.. I was engaged the whole time.. I would definitely recommend that everyone see them...I was also happy that it wason a Friday night...I would drfinitely see them again.
I really enjoyed myself. It was entertaining in a way that far exceeded the listening ear. This event also entertained the mind that dare thinketh outside of the box. On behalf of all of the healing souls of little blacks girls all grown up who were ridiculed for loving the violin, thanks for the closure. Thanks for coming. Please come again.
These guys are super talented and the show is worth every bit of the money that is charged. You will not be disappointed.
The Taft Theater is a small venue and they need update. Black Violin and their opening act was just awesome. They are so talented!
