About
Black Stone Cherry was founded in 2001 by guitarist and lead vocalist Chris Robertson and John Fred Young, drummer and backing vocalist, who were long-time friends. Joining forces with Ben Wells on rhythm and lead guitars and Jon Lawhon on bass guitar, the band started out by playing gigs in their local town of Edmonton, Kentucky. John Fred Young is the son of rhythm guitarist Richard Young from the Grammy Award-winning band The Kentucky Headhunters, which Black Stone Cherry cite as one of their earliest influences, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Muddy Waters and Cream. In their early days the band rehearsed and wrote in the same farmhouse that The Kentucky Headhunters had used as rehearsal space.
The band quickly gained a following for their live shows in their home state of Kentucky, and by 2005 they were signed to Roadrunner Records. The band released their first eponymously titled album in 2006 and were given a huge welcome back at their home town, where they performed for over 1500 fans. A live album recorded at London's Astoria in October 2007 was produced to mark the final show of their first international tour and was released in a limited edition of just 1,000 copies. In the same year the band won an award for Best New Band at the London Classic Rock Awards.
It is their tours for which the band is best known. An arena tour of the UK and Ireland in 2008 saw them take to the stage with Whitesnake and Def Leppard, with Black Stone Cherry as the opening act. May 2009 saw the band supporting Nickelback on the European leg of their Dark Horse Tour. They have supported Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company and were the headline act at the 2013 Download Festival.

by psychedp on 2/8/12The Club at Stage AE - PittsburghJust saw these guys for the first time and all I can say is "Wow!" My 11 year old son told me about them and I wrote them off as just another hard rock band (I'm a huge metal fan myself), but when I saw they were coming to Pittsburgh I figured I would buy us tickets to the show. Well this band brings the energy! After seeing their performance at Club AE (there were about 250 people there) I am now a big fan of this band. It was my son's second show, his first was Maiden, and he loved every minute of it...especially since he was able to get right up to the front! I highly recommend seeing this band live. You will NOT be disappointed!

by 2old4pom on 2/6/12Piere's - Fort WayneGreat Band--Great Venue--Sounded awesome!! Hit after hit. These guys have so many great songs, they didn't even get to a couple of my favorites. Would've loved to have heard Backwoods Gold & Peace is Free. Mixed feelings about their rendition of Rocky Mountain Way---they definitely rocked it~ but my view is... I wanted to see more Black Stone hits.

by Arok5 on 11/19/11Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton BeachThese guys rock. I'm going to be honest, I only knew a few of their songs before seeing them at this years Carnival of Madness tour. But they rocked the house as hard as possible, sounded better than they even do on album (which is almost impossible) and they just were amazing. I since have bought every one of their albums and they have sky rocketed to the absolute top of the list of my favorite bands. I LOVE music and I consider it a huge mistake on my part that I didn't get more into these guys years ago. But at least I did now and I'll be a fan for life. Please, if you do nothing else today, go to Youtube, Itunes, Amazon, a local CD store, anywhere....and check these guys out. A few of their top songs are Blame It One the Boom Boom, Blind Man, Rain Wizard, White Trash Millionaire, Like I Roll, Such a Shame, and Lonely Train. You will LOVE these guys, I'm positive!
