About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Billy Idol is Ageless

by MedicineManOH on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

First, props to this cat for looking 25 instead of 55. Okay, his body looks 25 but his face betrays the fact that he is older. Billy and the band sounded great. I appreciated the guitar and drum solos - brings back memories of many hard rock acts of the past. The set lasted almost 2 hours and included an eclectic mix of Gen X and Idol cuts. This was not a "greatest hits" act, a fact that may have disappointed some of the audience. The Fraze is a great venue. We sat in the second row of the orchestra section - a perfect spot to see and hear the show.

  • Billy Idol ROCKED!!!

    by nicki4me on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't get the chance to see Billy in the 80's but i'm sure he rocked as much then as he does now. He didn't disappoint the crowd at all, he played all of his hits plus some new stuff that i hadn't heard but will be checking out soon. His interaction with the crowd was something that i wish all performes would do. He's incredible and so is his body!!!!

  • Idol still has it!

    by MetalChic12345 on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

I have never bought a Billy Idol album. But when I saw him live a few years ago, after skipping the 1st half of his opening act for Def Leppard, I swore I wouldn't miss his show if and when he ever toured in our area again. His show is non-stop energy, his music is timeless rock, his voice has withstood the test of time, and he and Steve Stevens are outstanding performers. Steve Stevens alone, in my opinion, is worth the price of admission. Whether you were a fan of Billy Idol during the 80s or not, if you like a good ROCK show, this is one you MUST add to your to-do list.

  • Incredibly awesome Billy Idol!

by Anonymous on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time I've seen Billy Idol. His shows are always very professional and full of energy. This one was no exception. With no opening band, he entertained for 2 full hours! The audience loved it! Almost nobody sat down from the moment he came on stage until it was over. I know I didn't! He is a real showman! His band was really excellent too. Of course, Steve Stevens and his incredible guitarwork were super-fantastic! I really loved the transitions from song to song. It kept the excitement going and you didn't know what Billly was going to do next. And his abs are still off-the-chart!

  • Billy Idol Concert

by Robertainlexington on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was VERY good! I thoroughly enjoyed it despite a severly twisted ankle. The Fraze Pavillion staff went out of their way to lend me a wheelchair and mov e my seats so I could attend this concert. I would recommend this concert to people who like Billy Idol. He did all the hits with the exception of Rock the Cradle of Love, but I'm sure he can't fit every song into a show that is under 2 hours. Overall the sound quality was GREAT, especially for a small venue. There was no distortion like I have heard in some smaller places. If you are a Billy Idol fan you should definitelyt see this show!

  • Billy Idol is even better now!

by JimmyMIII on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol is even better than when he was in his 20's! Awesome show with plenty of music that I have never heard him sing. Billy gave plenty of attention to his band and was not all about himself. Billy even played both acoustic and electric guitar a few times.

  • BIlly was amazing!!!

It was so wonderful. He looked great and sounded amazing! The entire audience was into it, singing, dancing etc. Billy was full of energy and Stev Stevens was amazing on the guitar, the entire band was great. Wonderful set list!

Great show! We had a great time and Billy did not disappoint us.

  • Billy Idol at the Fraze

by loafin on 9/6/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 3 out of 5

Overall the show was average. Not as good as I anticipated. The sound quality was fantastic. Billy and Steve demonstrated a low energy performance. In only the last three or four songs could you hear the "raw enegy" in either the vocals or the lead guitar.

great way to close the season at fraze. the was better than 2 years ago when he played with Def Leppard. Billy is back, now another no#1 hit and it's on.

Fantastic! The band is still amazing, great showmen who really relate to their audience. you know every song and it's a good blend of the classics with a few more recent things as well. High energy. Steve Stevens is amazing and Billy, as always, puts on the best show. Don't miss it!

  • Bill Idol still has it

by cincyed on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

Great show. Much better than I had anticipated. Though he may be looking a little older he still sounded great and put on an exciting show. His band also sounded great.

  • Billy Efnnn Idol aiways rocks

by Yeagman on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

For some reason the venue had a older crowd. I mean 65+. Not sure if they were package ticket holders. Started out slow. Bad sound man. Dont think Billy could hear self. Then Steves guitar couldnt be heard. Finally they got it right and all hell broke loose. Ive seen him rock harder, but Im sure it was the venue. Over all great time.

  • Billy Idol at the Fraze

by Kurse on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol still brings it at 51 years old. We heard all of his greats and Steve Stevens is still got what has made him one of the best if not the best guitarists in rock. The Fraze staff were very nice and respectful. The area was also very clean and structured. I would recommend this place to anyone.

  • Billy Idol and the Bullock Dogs were awesome!

by BBGF on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Not only was Billy Idol and the band awsome so was Fraze Pavillion and Nortons Bar across the street. I was thrilled to see the Mr. Idol is a small venue. We parked right by his bus and saw all of the band go into the show and saw them leaving the show. I spoke with many true Billy Idol fans and we shared many stories of past shows and memorabilia we have! My boyfriend, Mike Blackley has many unique things such as tapestry flags with images of Billy Idol, a maple clock, many shirts, albums, 45's,pins, buttons, tix from past shows, I could go on forever! We loved the show!!!

  • As good as Ever!

by hdidwhdfwifhwo on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Great show at the Fraze Pavillion in Kettering OH.. Loved every minute of it. Billy looked and sounded as good as he did back in his MTV heyday. Would go see him again if he played more in the states. The sound guys could have done a better job I thought. Though as the night went on they got better. Steve Stevens was incredible. Lots of guitar work, acoustic and electric. Can't wait for the new CD. If your an Idol fan don't miss him.

  • Billy Idol...ROCKED!!!

by Anonymous on 9/5/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of Billy since the early 80's. I was looking forward to a "good" show, but instead, I (and my GF), were treated to an AMAZING set. The wether was wonderful, the seting was great, and the sound...AMAZING!

  • Idol rocked the house!
