About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Billy is fabulous

Slash should have played less. Although they were entertaining I didn't realize that I was going to a Guns and Roses wannabe concert. Billy was great. He doesn't seem to age. Gorgeous, body was fabulous, voice is still there. Will definitely see him again.

  • Very Impressed

Slash opened for Billy and he put on an amazing show!! He's known for being one extreme or the other (great or terrible) and we were lucky to see the greatness of his talent. His singer, who is also on his solo album, was also very very good. Definitely an act to watch for and go see anytime.... just hope that Slash is "on" that night. Everyone was suprised and very excited that he played a few GNR classics, which I hadn't thought he legally could because of rights or something. We'll definitely go see him again no matter who else he's touring with. We went to the show for Billy Idol, as I am a huge fan, and he was good, but not as good as other times I've seen him and the sound quality wasn't great. That was strange because during Slash's show it was as good as can be expected for this venue. On the plus side, the stage set-up he had included a platform which made it possible for everyone in the standing-room-only crowd to see him. He performed a couple of new songs, one of which was Kings and Queens which we really liked and hope he releases soon. His show included strobe lights but after the first couple of songs they didn't really use them. Totally unnecessary effect, IMO, and we were glad they toned it down. Steve Stevens was great (as always) and Slash came back onstage to perform L.A. Woman (which they changed to Chicago Woman, totally cheesey) and it was great to watch and hear the 2 guitarists getting into it. We left after 1hr 45min but heard later that Billy kept going for quite awhile after that. I do have to note that he took several breaks while Steve did long solos and/or the band kept going without him which didn't detract from the show at all but I don't recall him doing that say, 10 years ago. But hey, he is almost 55 so I'll cut him some slack lol. He took his shirt off (of course) and he is more muscular now that 30 years ago so he's doing something right. So Slash played for about an hour and 15min; Billy 2hrs or maybe a little more than that even, so a great value for the money!

  • Billy was fabulous, as always!

I got there at 7:45 so I missed part of Slash's set list. I was amazed how many people were already there. I have seen Billy several times, so although being up close would have been nice it didn't happen. He still hot and he's rocking!! He was very energetic and sang the old stuff with a new twist and some new stuff that I hadn't heard before. Steve Stevens as always, was wonderful. For old guys they outdo me in energy by far. So it was a fun show and I highly recommend it. I will say, since I didn't push myself to get in front so I could see everything, I may have missed something. People screamed at the end and I don't know why. I waited, with a few others, after the show for an autograph but it was not to be had.

Even at the age of 55 and all of life's ups and downs Billy is still amazing. He interacted with the crowd, still had moves that made your heart throb, and had a smile that would knock your socks off!!! You could tell he absolutely loves to entertain and he really had his stuff together!!! I throughly enjoyed the concert and wish I had the money to go to another one (or two, or three)!!!

He can still tear it up. Would have liked to hear a few more of his classics but other than that, will definately catch him next time in town.

  • Billy Idol at Fraze Pavilion, Kettering Ohio

    by Idolfan1970 on 9/8/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol delivered as usual. We've seen him 4 times in the last 8 years and he never disappoints. The band did 3 Generation X songs and 3 newly written songs in the set as well. No Cradle of Love but I can't complain much. The Fraze Pavilion is an awesome venue for a show and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

  • Billy Idol still delivers!

    by PunkRockDad1 on 9/7/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

There I was attending a Billy Idol show for the umpteenth time. The first being in my teen's in the 80's, and here I am at 40 still acting like a kid. This time with my 10 year old daughter by my side attending her first concert. From the minute Billy hit the stage, with band in tow, it was full throttle the whole time. At 54, with over 30 years uder his belt, Billy's voice is stronger than ever, and proved that he mop up the stage with performers half his age. Great chemisrty in the band with Devil's Playground band members Stephen McGrath on bass, Derek Sherinian on keyboards, new members Jeremy Colson on drums, and Billy Morrison on rythmn guitar, and of course, the virtuoso Steve Stevens on guitar. Billy and the band did all the songs you wanted to hear and three new ones. "Love Is Strange" "Scared For Life" and "Kings And Queens Of The Underground". Once again for the umpteenth time, the only bad part of the show, was that it had to end. Thanks again Billy. From me and my daughter.

  • Before American Idol, there was Billy Idol!!

Still rockin' after all these years. He played all of his greatest hits with a great mix of new material. And Steve Stevens is as awesome as ever!

by whiplashsmilelmk on 9/7/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time at this show! Was 3rd row, got to dance all show long, had great people around me and had the company of my IDOL sisters. McG paid me some extra attention (thank you) and Billy held my hand for a little while when he was singing Blue Highway. It was fun to hear the new songs and also some classic Generation X songs. Billy looked fantastic and the band had a lot of energy.

  • Great Show

  • Idol still has it

by Corbdogg on 9/7/10Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I was pretty much blown away by Billy Idol and his band at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, OH. I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that Steve Stevens was back with the band so I was excited to see him as I knew he was good. He was better than I thought and his performance was really impressive. The whole band was good. Jimmy Morrison could have acted like he wanted to be there a little more but he played pretty well too. Billy sounded great and they played everything I wanted to hear. The version of LA Woman was freakin awesome. For a soon to be 55 year old Billy looked great played the part with his patented snarl and fist pump. If you have a chance go see them, you won't be disappointd.
