That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.
Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.
Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.
An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.
Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played. He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK. Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.
Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.
Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape. Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.
In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.
Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.
The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

Even after all of these years, BIlly Idol still has what it takes to put on a great show. He even sang 2 new songs that aren't even out yet. Steve Stevens' guitar solos were awe-inspiring. It was good to see the two of them together again.
Billy "F***ing" Idol as he called himself at the end of the show, was quite a showman. Besides the usual hits, the band played a pretty rockin' rendition of the Doors "LA Woman." I took my son to the show. He was born when MTV was originally showing Billy's "White Wedding." We both enjoyed the show - a "Boomer" and a "Gen X-er!"
We went to the Billy Idol concert on September 3rd. When he played the songs we knew, it was great. My friends were disappointed that he didn't play Cradle of Love. I'm sure playing the same songs over and over each night would get old, but that's why we were there. He started a little after 8 and finished about 10 and took a lot of breaks.
I have always been a fan of Billy Idol and I was excited to find out that he was going to be coming close enough for me to see him. I expected to see an old Rocker kind of mail it in but was very pleasantly suprised. Billy Idol was in tremendous shape and he played with a ton of emotion and really rocked the place. His band (I think he calls them the Dogs Bollocks) were phenominal. The lead guitar player was very good. They did a Led Zeppelin tune part way in that was very solid and then another very good version of LA Woman. He sang nearly all of his old stuff and threw in a few new songs that he is going to release in a new album.
Billy Idol has been and continues to be an amazing entertainer. Very exciting show. Musicians were awesome as well. Steve Stevens left us speechless.

The Billy Idol concert in Portsmouth, VA was incredible. It was as good, if not better, than when I saw him 25 years ago. He still has so much energy and looks so good (Steve Stevens, too). They always put on a great show. My 13 year old daughter did not want to go to the concert and does not know a lot of Billy Idol's music, but she loved the show. Her jaw dropped when he took off his shirt. She could not believe that he was older than her parents. I would go see him again and again.
Billy Idol was a great show for all to see. He kept the place rocking and rolling. His band's sound was perfect! Billy looked very fit and his voice is in excellent condition. He band some Generation X songs and of course of all his hits!
This show was the best concert I have ever been to! It was awesome! There was so much energy and we had great seats! I love him! he sounded great and looks even better! he's hotter now than he was when he was young!

Billy Idol and Candlebox were great, but the soundsystem at nTelos was totally off - the instruments were overpowering the vocals to the point where one could not understand the lyrics.
Saw the show from the 5th row in orchestra pit. Billy still has it. Was wondering how his band would be w/ only Steve Stevens remaining, but they were fantastic. Talent and showmanship. Well worth seeing. Had one or two songs he could have added, did many of the favorites.
Billy Idol is fantastic in concert. My only disappointment was the sound when he was singing I thought was muddled. Microphone or speakers didn't sound fine tuned or of quality??
Awesome Show an absolute must. Billy is better than his youinger days.
It was a really great time! He walked out with his leather and blonde hair and rocked the house! Steve Stevens is an amazing guartist, they all had such amazing chemistry together, i had a really good night. He played an assortment of old hits along with his new songs. there was never a dull moment that night.
He sounded great and looked even better! Gave all his fans a great show! Performed all the favorites! Can't wait to see him again!!!
This was a fantastic concert!!! It started with Candlebox who rocked then Billy Idol and his band who were flawless, playing all the great tunes that made him famous and a few I had never heard. With the addition of guitar great Steve Stevens, it was a rock and roll event made even better by the beautiful surroundings of the nTelos pavillion.
I've seen Billy 4 times over the past 25 years. He never ceases to impress me. This show was no exception. He was in TOP form! Sounded and looked absolutely fantastic. Band was so tight, just superb. The interaction with the audience was genuine, we ALL had a blast. First time at Portsmouth Wireless Pavillion. GREAT place to see a show. Reminded me of Wolftrap in many ways. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The restrooms and concessions were only steps away. Sounds was great. It really doesn't get any better! LOVED the show!!!
Enjoyed Billy Idol. He sounds great the band was one of the best!!! He still looks amazing! Very engaging with the crowd! CandleBox sounded great! One of the BEST summer concerts!!
Billy Idol was awesome! He had no problem getting through his songs. Couple of times he could not hold the note as he used to. He was super hot looking! Total 8 pack on the abs! He kind of lost the old school crowd when he performed a set of 3 new songs...but it gave you time to get a drink and hit restrooms. His opener had one familiar song but were not bad. I would definitely go again. One song I wished he would have performed was Hot In The City.
