I am 16 years old, probably the youngest person at the event and I was just enamored! The songs she chose to sang she performed beautifully and the showmanship was just wonderful! She is a huge inspiration to me and she lived up to every expectation I held! I really hope a get the opportunity to see her perform again!

  • Wonderful Performance

by SpacemanJoe on 10/22/13Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

Bernadette was in top vocal form and she sang and moved with energy and great feeling. She still looks terrific. There was an excellent variety of songs - ballads, uptempo, etc. She was backed by a 10 piece orchestra which included a french horn, two guys on saxes /clarinet/flute/ oboe, drums, piano, double bass, cello, viola, and two violins.

  • Brebadette a world class act

by BatmansKiss on 10/22/13Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 4 out of 5

Pulling from her repitoire of Tony winning Broadway musicals, Sondheim shows, and standards, as well as her original song from her book benefitting animal shelter, Bernadette Peters captured the full range of emotions in her recent show at the Valley Performing Arts Center. She incorporated humor, personal stories, and a moving Disney tribute. Ms. Petersb was an evening not to be missed!

Ms Peters was great! She has a tremendous vocal range that came over beautifully in the new Northride Performing Arts Theatre. I recommend her show completely.

  • A Trouper all the Way

by Monchito143 on 10/22/13Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first visit to VPAC and quite impressed. The venue was large enough but yet made you feel up close and personal to the performers. Bernadette was warm and gracious although I thought she cut the show a little short....excellent as always.

It was a sheer delight to to be in the company of such a professional and talented chanteuse such as Bernadette Peters. Each song was a gem. Each song had a wonderful story and message. Hooray for Bernadette. I hope she continues forever! Lucky the person to see her in concert.

  • Bernadette was AMAZING

by GoandSeeFollies on 3/8/12Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was amazing. Bernadette is a Broadway legend. No one sings Stephen Sondheim like Bernadette. My only complaint is that it went by too fast.

  • Bernadette, the one and only

by mindybaby on 3/5/12Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

Bernadette Peters is extraordinary and unique. Her voice matches her beauty and talent and she is one of those consummate Broadway & theatrical performers for which no one can replace. Even trying to imitate her skill at enunciation and rounding out her words through the microphone, can't capture the deep emotional connection she evokes with her audience. She is a wonderful vocalist who can belt out a Broadway tune, and yet quietly, slowly, effectively melt your heart . She likes to make songs her own and rearranges some of the songs even she made popular. She likes a lot of Sondheim so be ready. You can tell she is one of my all time favorites, but, I implore you to try to get tickets to see her if you get a chance. I love Bernadette and am a big fan.

  • a 60+yo woman! but., it was a little ballad heavy

by tujungian on 3/5/12Valley Performing Arts Center - NorthridgeRating: 3 out of 5

she IS one of the foremost stage performers. i saw her as mama rose in gypsy and i also saw patti lupone...and surprisingly enough to me, bernadette was far better! it was just a more well-rounded performance. having said this, this particular stage performance was just to moody. her songs all sounded the same after a while.

Bernadette Peters has such a unique, beautiful voice, and she showed it off to great advantage through her choice of songs. She injected some humor into her act, and connected very well with the audience.

This was a fun and entertaining event. She's spunky. She's funny. She's hot. And hey, she can even sing great too! Would see her again in a heartbeat!

This was the second time, in many years, that we got to see Bernadette Peters live in concert. What a performer! Her energy and personality were so delightful. She brings such depth and resonance to her singing, especially in her ballads. On more than one occasion, I was deeply moved.

  • Bernadette Peters.....

by Samarra on 2/27/12Indiana University Auditorium - BloomingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I have always been a fan of Bernadette Peters. I was really looking forward to the show. It was a bit disappointing. It seemed that she had a cold or something because she kept sniffling and clearing her throat. Her voice was raspy at times, too. I got the feeling that she was just trying to get through the show. Tthere was no spontanaiety in her dance steps and no joy in her voice. Disappointing...but I won't hold this against her if she was sick.

She puts on a great show and packs several songs into her hour and a half concert.

  • Bernadette Peters was Amazing!!

by BPMCC on 2/27/12Indiana University Auditorium - BloomingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I did not know what to expect, but she held my interest every moment. Her voice is beautiful, and her vocal range is impressive. she becomes the character before she sings a song. She had me crying with one song and my daughter crying through 4 songs! A consummate performer.

  • Glorious voice, but way too much Sondheim!

by Bloomingtonian on 2/26/12Indiana University Auditorium - BloomingtonRating: 3 out of 5

We attended Bernadette's concert at the Indiana University Auditorium on Saturday, 2/25/12. The show was done without intermission, and was less than two hours (not sure EXACTLY). There was one encore. Probably about 50% of the program was Sondheim songs, most of which my companion and I found depressing and somewhat boring (though she did sing them beautifully). The part of the concert that we enjoyed was the older songs, and songs from older musicals - usually in her own style (sometimes an improvement on the original, others times just interesting and "different"). I especially enjoyed "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Shenandoah." I would only recommend this concert to a friend if he or she is a fan of Stephen Sondheim. If the program is changed to cut down on the amount of Sondheim (or do more of his early works), I would be more likely to attend again and to recommend the concert to a friend.
