About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Ben Folds is always fun

    by Simple_Girl on 7/2/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds is always a good show and I love concerts at State Theatre. I really appreciate that one man and a piano can be such a great concert experience and I love the easy drive and parking options for a Saturday night show.

  • Amazing!

I love him. He’s so talented! It took me back to the 90’s and his newer stuff is fantastic too!!!!!

  • Ben Folds. A Piano. Paper Airplanes. Perfect.

    by K Lippy on 6/28/24Goodyear Theater - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds is at the same time a down to earth guy and stratospherically talented and among the best singer/songwriter/musicians (Piano) of my generation. The simplicity of "hanging out"with Ben, his piano (and a glass of tequila), and paper airplanes was all that was required for a performance of a lifetime. If you want to experience this world class musical talent in an intimate way, you must go see him on this tour. Mr. Folds, if you ever read this. THANK YOU!

  • venue needs some work

by cm on 6/10/24District Live - SavannahRating: 3 out of 5

the venue was not ideal. cramped. hot. claustrophobic. no seating. the opening act was too campy. we did not enjoy her. the acoustics were good. the show was average at best.

  • Great performance but venue not the best

by Outside shot on 6/9/24District Live - SavannahRating: 4 out of 5

Ben Folds is an incredible entertainer. His piano chops are off the charts great! The venue was general admission which was fine. But there were no seats at all it was difficult to see anything with the crowd blocking most sight lines. One of our party had a recent leg surgery and no chairs were available anywhere. Sitting on the floor against the side wall was only way to relieve discomfort for 90 minutes of standing and not being able to see anything for her. The venue should explain what General Admission means. Our expectations were rows of folding chairs and you select an available seat.

My favorite concert of my life so far. I think this sums it up but they want more characters.

  • Sense of Humor

by Sniff and Swirl on 6/5/24Bell Auditorium - AugustaRating: 5 out of 5

Love this guy! He loves an audience, for sure. I got a kick out of the way he plays piano up to the last 10 seconds or so of a tune, and he's up and ready to move on to the next action: talking with the audience or picking up another paper airplane request. Glad I got to see him live!

  • Ben is amazing as always

by Brian F on 6/4/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

What an incredible show! Ben never fails to entertain. A wonderful mix from his entire discography, plus some amazing improv songs! And the paper airplane format was brilliant.

  • Ben Folds is always brilliant

    by Alex T on 6/3/24Bell Auditorium - AugustaRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was just reopening and there were problems. He handled it like a champ! I love the premise of this tour. And although after 2+ hours, there were still so many songs we could hear, there were many “oldies” that were new to me. Such poignant topics dealt with humor and kindness. His talent on the keys and with lyrics is boundless.

  • Always a Good Time

by BK on 6/3/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

This isn't the first time I've seen Ben Folds perform. My first was several years ago when he was touring with an orchestra and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't consider myself a die hard Ben Folds fan. Sure, there are certainly songs that I like and I find his type of music appealing. What really sets his live performances apart from most is his interaction with the audience. You get the genuine love it or leave it personality of a normal human being. Your not watching some pretentious rock god or diva that's so caught up in themselves that they either have to maintain a carefully curated façade or are too good to talk with the common folk. His ability to make you feel like you're part of his gang just hanging out with him is outstanding. He's also quite possibly the best at improvising songs and lyrics that I've ever seen. I was a little leery that I wouldn't enjoy this show as much since it didn't include the orchestra, but I took a chance and purchased tickets for myself and my lady friend and I'm certainly glad I did. I will not ever miss a chance to see him live should he visit the city I live in.

  • Fantastic Performance

by TWise on 6/2/24The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Great performance and energy, hasn't lost a beat since I first saw him two decades ago. After the opening act Ben played a short set of about 45 minutes. There was an intermission wherein we were able to write a request on an airplane and after intermission there was a countdown and everyone threw their planes at once. He played eleven songs from the requests, only referencing his giant book of songs on one song (incredible to have almost his entire catalog mastered like that). A couple of the songs were improved based upon requests from audience members that just consisted of "sing a song about...". In all I very much enjoyed it, as did my wife, and I would absolutely go see him the next time he is in town.

  • Talent Anyone Can Get Into

by Matt K on 4/23/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

My wife is the Ben Folds fan out of the two of us, but I have never left one of his shows without being impressed and entertained. This show was no exception. His talent for writing, singing and playing piano are evident with every song. His wit and personality fill the space between songs with engaging short stories, making for a great night. The Wind Creek Event Center leaves something to be desired with the flat gymnasium-like feel, but it still sounded good to someone like myself who isn’t that much of an audio snob. The big TV displays make up for much of what the flat seating lacks. The folding chairs definitely were squashed together and not comfortable though.

  • Fantastic!

by Matt on 4/23/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

What an outstanding show! Not only did Ben perform all kinds of songs, both old and new, he was very engaging with the audience and made sure to take the time and describe where he got the inspiration for a lot of the songs. Hearing this and then playing the song right after gave them a whole new level of meaning and appreciation. Plus he did this all while recovering from bronchitis! Very glad I got to attend this event, and I would definitely do so again in the future. Highly recommended.

  • Even with bronchitis, Ben wowed the crowd

by Kristin Pedemonti on 4/23/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

Phenomenal show! Ben is an amazing pianist, lyricist, storyteller and showman. Even with bronchitis, he wowed the crowd as he pushed through with honesty and humility. Ben's personal stories about several of the songs brought us in deeper to the lyrics. And Ben invited us to join him, singing along several times. I sat in Row 7 with so much gratitude! The only drawback, the folding chairs were a bit uncomfortable.

  • Great show

Had a blast- Ben is always great. He was game as ever despite the fact that he wasn’t feeling too great. He puts on a great show!

  • Always a good show!

by Mavis on 4/22/24Music Box at the Borgata - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds was recovering from bronchitis, but you would barely notice! He gave a great performance, was engaging and entertaining the crowd as always. Ben Folds is someone I always try to catch when he comes around and I can't wait until the next time!

  • A Smashing Great Time with a Musical Genius

by Olivia on 10/20/23Bayou Music Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

I was fortunate enough to see Ben Folds at The Wiltern in August. Was Super Stoked to see him in my hometown of Houston. Same tour, two completely different experiences (both great). I was mesmerized. Buying a seat in the 3rd row was the best decision, I could FEEL the music. Thanks for the memories.

  • Super Chill Venue

by Ben Boven on 10/20/23Bayou Music Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Small venue, parking was extremely close and a breeze to navigate, the staff is super friendly and the amenities are great. Bathrooms were no problem as a guy, can't know the ladies' perspective, but there wasn't a crowded space anywhere in the building. There's a bar downstairs that has a small menu. I had the quesadilla, it's pretty much what you'd expect from a bar that serves a little food on the side but at $14 they weren't trying to kill you about it. Lots of room to hang out downstairs with a pool table and big puffy chairs and couches and such. We played checkers with a chess board at our table.
