Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.
He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.
For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.
Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.
An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.
An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

I had such a fantastic night seeing the Violent Femmes and Ben Folds. I had never seen the VF before, but they really brought it! Danced and sang like a mad woman! I can never say enough about Ben Folds. He will forever be my favorite artist. His music lifts the soul, and his audience participation makes everyone feel like a part of the music. Don’t miss this!
Meeting Ben and getting to hear him speak was epic. The show he put on was epic. The Violent Femmes, who id never seen before, were really fun and entertaining. I liked the rooftop venue a lot, but the 10:00 curfew was a drag. I could’ve listened to Ben with Tall heights for another hour at least!
Attended Violent Femmes show at Pier 17 Rooftop in NYC. The venue was fantastic. Brooklyn Bridge for a backdrop of the stage. Statue of Liberty to the back us. Unconventional food selections from food trucks on the rooftop. Definitely highly recommend the venue. As for the show... the Violent Femmes were amazing as usual. Their Bluegrass/folk/punk rock stylings were solid. If you want to hear great music and have an awesome experience... go see these guys.
Staff is great but I need somewhere to sit. Music fun of course!
The pier 17 rooftop venue is very cool. Gorgeous back drop. The show started quite early and with Violent Femmes performing first.Honestly I thought they would be after Ben Folds, given that their sound is a lot harder 😎. The drinks at the venue are limited and quite expensive. I hope that the bar will expand to a more permanent fixture vs. festival style booth.
All three acts gave us hair raising feels with the back drop of the Brooklyn Bridge. We discovered a new artist in Savanah. Reminisced with the Femmes. We found the love of music with Ben.
Dear god, I have missed seeing the Violent Femmes. They were just as amazing as I always remembered. Gordon’s voice was spot on and all the energy was still there. I danced until my hair was wet with sweat and my soul was cleansed.
Concert was great. Didn't realize how many Violent Femmes' songs I knew from college days until they started playing. As always Ben Folds brought it. The only complaint/gripe I would have is that he seemed to come on a little late. The wife was getting ready to walk-out, she had to work the next day (I didn't). Other than that the show was awesome!
Violent Femmes still got it! Blown away in particular at the vocal power and bass wizardry of the founding duo. It was loud, fun, people dancing in the aisles, you get the idea. Ben Folds never disappoints, but this show was extra cool. He brought a quieter lineup including acoustic guitar, small floor drums, and bass harp to provide the bottom. It was so good, and much more emphasis on vocal harmonies and piano. I think Ben had a cold, his voice was not 100% but even at 85% the show was really something special. The harp player was best I've ever heard no kidding. Don't miss.
Violent Femmes led off with a lousy sound mix. Second show in a row where the sound mix was way off. Band too loud and vocals strain to be heard over the top of that. Sad. I will not be paying money to see anymore bands here. Ben Folds had an acoustic set which even the sound wizards behind the board could not screw up. Both bands were fantastic.
My wife and I went with our 16 and 18 year old sons, who only knew Jesusland, and we had an incredible time.
We see Ben Folds every time he’s in town. He always puts on a great show and having the symphony collaborate with him combines two of my absolute favorite things!
We had a great time at the Ben Folds/Symphony show. The orchestra sounded great, as always, and the arrangements really complemented Folds. The only issue was that the vocals were a little soft and a little tinny compared to the way the musicians were mic'd. All in all a great show, though.
The arrangements and the performers were spectacular. The venue has room for improvement. I was surprised when I made my way into the Atlanta Symphony Hall. My expectations were too high considering how wonderful the Florence Kopleff Recital Hall is at Georgia State University. Orchestra main seats. I guess unless there is a renovation I need to check seating reviews online in advance to enjoy a concert in this hall.
Ben Folds was hands-down one of the best performances that I have ever attended. I am a fan of both him and the ASO, and I loved how it felt intimate. He chatted with the audience and his easygoing manner just added to the experience. The conductor, Jacomo Bairos, was phenomenal as well and I enjoyed seeing him seemingly have fun. I will always, ALWAYS go see Ben Folds if he’s in town.
1 guy and a piano, it was awesome! Can't wait to see him again!
Positively spectacular. Third time I've seen him, and so far, the best. He's simply a perfect entertainer. Crowd was actually awesome as well. No buttheads talking constantly through the show, which was the main problem last time I saw him at Cleveland HOB.
Maybe other people know this, but it's not a stand up and dance concert. Nor can you talk during the show.
Venue and show were both A+. Loved everything! We will definitely be making the trip to see him again.
