About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Great show but....

    by T. M. on 8/9/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

The show was awesome! It was my first time seeing Ben Folds and at one of my favorite venues. It was all but perfect until the Stage AE staff cut the show short due to curfew? What the... Since when does Pittsburgh have a curfew? Folds still had probably 5 more songs on his set list, 2 of which I was dying to hear. Super lame Stage AE, super. lame.

  • Femmes never disappoint

    by Rj37 on 8/9/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The violent femmes sound just as good today as they did 35yrs ago. They mixed really good new stuff with all of their classics. Great performance and the Stage AE venue in Pittsburgh is top notch.

  • back to the college days

    by P. W. on 8/9/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

I love concerts in this venue. just a little disappointed in the process to get into the venue. My friend had a small purse and had to take it back to the car. All she had in it was her money and ID. They also took my key chain. I did not see any signs about what you could not take into the venue. I loved the Violent Femmes though.

  • Femmes were great....

    by T. J. on 8/9/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 2 out of 5

Violent Femmes had a GREAT show, but Ben Folds played a shorter set and had to end the show early due to city noise ordinance. They had to qui the show early. disappointing!!!!

  • Well done show!

by Matthew Tann on 8/9/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Ben in Pittsburgh and it was great fun! I enjoyed the music even though I didn't know any of it. Another wonderful opportunity to observe a musician in their live performance element!

  • Amazing

Ben Folds is talented, entertaining, and always puts on an amazing show!

  • Great

    by M. D. on 8/8/19Mohegan Sun Arena - UncasvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Why was The legendary Violent Femmes not the main attraction? Never even heard of Ben Folds. 5 stars for Violent Femmes. 1 star for Benny.

  • Great venue

    by M. G. on 8/7/19Bold Point Park - East ProvidenceRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue, good music, security was good (felt safe) but not overbearing. The drinks were a bit pricey, loved the food trucks.

  • Great Show, Great Venue

by PisceanPortents on 8/7/19Stone Pony Summer Stage - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

Really enjoyed the Stone Pony's Summer Stage. Great venue! Violent Femmes were AMAZING! So much fun! Enjoyed it so much we bought tickets after the show for another show later this month. Can't wait to go back!

  • Great music- terrible venue

by Levi Johnson on 8/7/19Bold Point Park - East ProvidenceRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds, as always, put on a great show. The music was fantastic, he interacts with the audience and the set list was perfect. The venue, on the other hand, Bold Point Park in RI is terrible! The staff are clueless, the lawn, if you call it that is gross and more. I’ll go see Ben Folds again but will not go to Bold Point Park.

  • Ben Folds was fantastic. Of course.

by Robyn on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds was great and I love this venue! We had seats at the tables in the back-- the weather was lovely, and the location next to the water is always fun. Was a little sad that all the cameras were aimed at Mr. Folds' back... it was cool to see his piano-playing prowess, but it would have been nice to see his face sometimes. He's a pretty expressive performer, so we still saw some of his personality come through, but why not stick a camera pointed in the other direction? Still, hard to complain. Love Ben Folds.

  • Two out of three isn't bad

by KHenry on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I love the venue. It was my second show there in less than two weeks. Savannah Conley started off the show and she was very good. Violent Femmes came on next and they were AWESOME. They sounded great. Horn section was fabulous and the drummer was outstanding. They brought so much energy!! Then Ben Folds came on and the energy just dropped. As soon as something political came out of his mouth (second song maybe?), we left. The order of the bands were terrible energy-wise. On the positive, we didn't have to sit through Ben Folds to be able to see the Femmes.

  • Odd Pairing, but A Great Show

by Whiny McGee on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I was most impressed by Violent Femmes, who I knew from their "hits", but was never aware of how musically talented they were. Adept at a number of instruments, their set was full of great music and some nice special guests. Definitely glad I finally got a chance to see them. Ben Folds was good as well, though the fans can actually drown out his performance with their own warbling.

  • Let down

by T.Diddy on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Ben and the Femmes were on the ticket; then a solo artist appeared at the stated start time. Femmes were great, by the time Ben got on stage he has about 65-70 minutes to perform. Major let down. And why are you still singing about Bristol and Levi? We're polarized enough.

  • Violent femmes

by Seantown on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I went for the femms..and they didnt disappoint!!!

  • Awesome!

Ben Folds with Talk Heights was awesome!!! Beautiful night on the water with great music!

  • Excellent show

by CeCe on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I love being introduced to new artists and Savanah was wonderful. I also loved that Ben Folds used a local band,Tall Heights, as his backup band.

  • Phenomenal Show Cut Short

by Libby on 8/6/19Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds, as always, was superb. I sort of wish he'd play unaccompanied, but it's always nice when he has harmonies being sung behind him. The only downside was that the Pavillion made him stop at 11 so he couldn't finish his set or even the song he was singing when the clock struck 11. Felt cheated out of his full show. ps. The Violent Femmes blew the roof off!

  • Great show at a fabulous venue

by MagBlack on 8/5/19The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Pier 17 is a really pretty, intimate venue for a concert. The food and drink offerings were limited but adequate. There weren't any real lines. The Violent Femmes and Ben Folds put on an awesome show and we lucked out with perfect weather. It was a terrific evening!

  • Violent Femmes are amazing!!!

by Ooshwa on 8/5/19Stone Pony Summer Stage - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

Violent Femmes sounds like they did back in the 80”s! They still have all that energy too! Played new songs and all the favorites! Looking forward to their new album! I have seen them the last few years at the Pony and will keep coming back as long as they do! An amazing band! An amazing night! ❤️
