About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Top Notch

by Mike on 10/24/19Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

This show was better then ever. The energy Ben Folds puts into his performance clearly shows through to the audience. He also told many engaging stories that made the night more interesting. I cannot give a higher recommendation for this artist. A must see. If you're not a fan of his music, or just never heard it, you will be converted to his intelligent, melodic yet singable and memorable songs. And no, I do not work for Ben Folds, I'm just a mission to civilize.

  • More fan now than before!

by TMBGFanoRama on 10/23/19The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the second time I've seen Ben Folds, the first time was with Cake where I became a deeper fan and explored his catalog. But, after seeing him with just his piano I am now officially a solid fan. That said, I think anyone with an affinity for piano pop/rock would enjoy Folds' entertainment style and mix of genres and rapport with the audience. I've just bought a VIP package to one of his symphony concerts as that should be incredible.

  • Ben Folds Rocked The Sylvee

by Sarah on 10/23/19The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds gave an energetic and interactive show, with a great mix of better-known songs such as “The Luckiest,” and deeper cuts like “The Secret Life of Morgan Davis.” The

  • Great show! So completely entertained.

Such a great show. Fun. Ben is such a great entertainer. I loved it. The Sylvee is the perfect place to see him play. It is not to big and you can see from everywhere. Parking is close by and it is quick and easy to get in and out of the area.

Ben doesn’t disappoint. Great one man show! Make sure you stay through the end.

  • Another great night with Ben

    by Nick N on 10/21/19Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic! What a hugely talented musician/songwriter. We have seen Ben numerous times and have always enjoyed his performances and interaction with the audience. Last Thursday at the Genesee theater was one of the best shows I've seen with Ben Fold. One man, a piano and a drum kit had our full attention the entire show. I look forward to Ben Fold coming back to Chicago soon.

  • That Time I Got To Meet Ben Folds

    by J. F. on 10/21/19Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

I had the opportunity to do the meet & greet at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan. The event was spectacular as was the show. If you get the chance, take the opportunity & enjoy getting to hear the artist explain their path for musical inspiration.

by Olivia on 10/7/19Levitt Shell at Overton Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

The Ben Folds concert was fabulous! The Levitt Shell is a really neat venue, with great acoustics and sound system. The food trucks were a good idea too. And of course, Ben Folds was amazing as always!

  • Great night

by Slkw on 10/7/19Levitt Shell at Overton Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

It was a fabulous evening! Ben Folds is a very humorous guy, with a folksy-rock style that captures emotions and thoughts with which we can all identify. Most of all he is a great musician and that fact comes through early in his performance.

  • Ben's losing his touch, it's sad

by J. M. on 10/7/19Levitt Shell at Overton Park - MemphisRating: 2 out of 5

He was rusty with most of his songs, timing was all over the place. Maybe he should form a regular band again.

  • Not enough Ben

by NikZ on 8/15/19Meadow Brook Amphitheatre - Rochester HillsRating: 3 out of 5

Ben Folds was amazing for the time that he was onstage. Unfortunately the amount of time used by the first opening act & the Violent Femmes, along with the time to change the sets by the road crew diminished the time available for Ben Folds to perform. Since Ben Folds was my primary reason for attending the show, I would have liked to hear more of the act that I paid to see. Once Ben did hit the stage it was, as always, an amazing experience.

  • Both amazing!!!

by Fionasmom on 8/15/19STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Both acts were absolutely fantastic! One taking me back to college, the other to young adulthood. Always fun to lose yourself in incredible music & memories :)

  • Great evening!

by bmort on 8/14/19Meadow Brook Amphitheatre - Rochester HillsRating: 5 out of 5

The Meet and Greet with Ben was done really well. My daughter, who received the tickets for her 21st birthday, left feeling like the whole show was meant for her. Kinda wish he could have played just a couple songs more but with the local sound ordinance they had to shut down at 11. Other than that, I wouldn't have changed a thing!

  • Excellent

by Kiya on 8/14/19Meadow Brook Amphitheatre - Rochester HillsRating: 5 out of 5

There was no wait at the gait! Got right in and settled pretty quickly. Show was amazing. Could hear really well even all the way on the back lawn.

  • Violent Femmes featuring Ben Folds

by Timmy D on 8/14/19Meadow Brook Amphitheatre - Rochester HillsRating: 5 out of 5

All of the artists were distinct and talented. The opening act was Savannah Conley, a solo singer guitarist, who had a nice following in the front rows. She sang with heart and emotion. Her set contrasted the other performers nicely. IT was good exposure for a talented artist trying to get into the bigtime. The Violent Femmes really stole the show. Their fans were present and vocal. Dancing in the aisles and everyone seemed to know the lyrics. The rockabilly rhythm and clever lyrics reminded everyone why they were so successful in the 80's. I say stole the show because they had over a one hour set, seemingly longer than Ben Folds. They played their radio hits and some deeper cuts from their old albums. They weren't pitching a new album (Yea! Play the hits, man). For a trio (really a quartet if you include their horn player), they filled Meadowbrook with 80's rock and roll at its best. The band got a standing O at the end and they seemed genuinely pleased with their Motor City reception. Ben Folds was predictably in tune with what the audience wanted to hear. He's a veteran showman who brings the audience into the music. His accompanying drummer, guitarist, and harp man let him play earlier Ben Folds Five materials. The set was a nice mix of newer materials and older hits. What was interesting was the Violent Femmes crowd took off before Ben Folds finished. Ben Folds' musicianship is unparalleled. The percussive style on the piano, his genuine lyrics and their delivery makes his music great. The only downside was the 11:00 pm curfew at Meadow brook which brought his set to an abrupt end.
