He is the host of the highly successful shows "Cash Cab" and "Cash Cab: After Dark" on the Discovery Channel. He was singled out by publications such as Entertainment Weekly, who put Ben on their MUST LIST in 2006, People magazine who said "All Hail Cash Cab," and the New York Post. As a stand-up he has also been profiled in publications such as the New York Times, Maxim, the Associated Press and other reputable publications as well. In fact, "Cash Cab" has gained such a following that he received a Daytime Emmy nomination last year for "Outstanding Game Show Host."
As far back as Ben can remember, he was always delivering something. Whether it was flowers, sandwiches, pizza or people, he had over 68 odd jobs prior to and during his stint as an up and coming stand up comic. He recalls driving passengers in his limo, dropping them off, and then hitting the comedy clubs before coming back to pick them up and take them home. In fact, some of his passengers were so enamored with him that they even came to watch him perform! So, when Ben was offered the job as the host of "Cash Cab," driving was a no brainer. And when he was told that he had to successfully pass real taxi school to become a licensed cab driver in New York City to take the job, Ben passed with flying colors.
Ben got his unlikely start as a stand-up comedian when he was mistaken for a comic in the green room of The Comedy Store in Los Angeles where he was hired to answer the phones. The booker seeing that the other comics in the room could not get enough of Ben's humor booked him on the spot. After a few years of performing in Los Angeles, Ben moved back to New York and for two years consistently went to open-mic nights to hone his craft and he hasn't stopped making people laugh since. Now with over 10 years under his belt as a successful stand-up comedian, Ben continues to perform all over New York City and has achieved international acclaim for both the show "Cash Cab" and performing stand-up comedy all over the world.
He has appeared at the Aspen Comedy Arts Festival in 2002 and again in 2004 while promoting the movie "Bad Meat." He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000 and again in 2004 as well as the Masters show at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival in 2005. Ben was also a "Star Search" semi-finalist in 2003 and was an audience favorite where 16.2 million people saw him perform. Ben has also guest starred on numerous television comedies and dramas such as: ABC's "The Knights of Prosperity" & "Hope & Faith", NBC's "Law and Order SVU," and Fox's "Mad TV," as well as a recurring role on "One Life To Live." His upcoming special "YouSpoof 2.0" will debut on the Discovery Channel later in 2008.
Some television highlights of Ben's career include his own Comedy Central Presents Special, and performances and interviews on shows such as: "The Tonight show w/Jay Leno," the "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "Last Call with Carson Daly", "Comedy Central's Premium Blend," "The World Stands Up," and "Tough Crowd w/Colin Quinn." Film roles include a featured role in "Spiderman 2," and the independent comedies; "Bad Meat," "Don't Shoot The Pharmacist" "They're Made Out of Meat " , "Meet Me at Rays," (also co-wrote/directed).
In addition to being the host of "Cash Cab," Ben is also a trained tri-athlete, preparing for a ½ Iron Man competition in October of 2008. This triathlon includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike trek and a 13.1 mile run.
Ben Bailey is from New Jersey.
"Cash Cab" is in its third year and new episodes began airing on March 3, 2008.
Always the best experience at cobbs. Ben Bailey was hilarious
The only good thing about the night was the venue MC. Everything else was absolutely horrible. I don’t know what the headliner was going on about. Maybe 3 people were laughing. 2 obnoxious people were talking and yelling loudly through the whole night and staff wouldn’t do anything. They were very quick to jump on someone taking a picture though. Definitely not good value for money. $40 for tickets plus the mandatory 2 drinks is ludicrous.
Ben Bailey was hysterically funny! Everyone in my group loved him. I would highly recommended catching one of his shows.
Great show and loved all the comedians. We also loved using the fast pass
He just wasn’t funny. He beat subject matter to death, even though it was clear that the audience was not engaged.
He wasn't funny at all it was hard to hear him He spoke low
Show was ok. The second comedian was the funniest of all 3 comedians. Probably won’t go see Ben Bailey again.
First time at ROAR Comedy Club. original tickets were for an 8 pm show, that was changed to a 7pm then before the show it was again changed to 5pm. MGM said it was to fit comedian schedule but Ben Bailey was just as cranky about the 5PM show as the crowd was. I guess it was changed so the Concert Stage that was announced after tickets went on sale for our show could play music. Chairs are not what i would expect in a casino comedy club, No waitress service, The acts "green room" is a curtain hung from a pipe, my front row seat allowed me to hear the comics backstage as well as the one on the stage. Limited bar and wine selections. No hurry to return.
Went with our 2 college age kids and all of us had fun. Ben is very funny!
My date and I thought Ben was hilarious. We have loved his two previous DVDs, and he did not disappoint. Everything we expected and more! The crowd, however, was awful. I think most of them expected to see cash cab live and not the hilarious stand up show.
I never thought I could laugh so hard on the topic of wind breakers. Ben Bailey was funny throughout his set and kept it clean. Highly recommend!
Ben Bailey is my favorite comedian of all time. I saw him twice when he was in Milwaukee. The venue, which was the Northern Lights Theater in Potawatomi Bingo Casino was an amazing venue. I'll definitely go see another show there in the future
Ben Bailey is hilarious! He bases his comedy off real life situations which makes it so much funnier. You can relate to his jokes and his delivery is flawless. Highly recommended!!
Ben was awesome. I have seen him in past, but he is even funnier now - and a little moreopen. He is at his best when riffing - genuinely a funny guy Venue was really odd, but Ben was killer.
The recent show in Boston was terrible! He was very, rude to a woman in the front row and even admitted awkwardness and being over tired later in the show. A friend had won tickets but if I had to pay I would have asked for a refund.
I love this club! We got there a little early, not hours early, but maybe 20 minutes or so. Great seats - again. Even had time for a little snack too - sliders. Wonderful food! Served quickly and hot. The wait staff did not get in the way of the show. Two opening acts - both were entertaining. It's hard to appreciate someone else's act when waiting for your favorite to appear. Ben Bailey was funny - laughed all throughout his set. Even was geeky enough to get my picture taken with him afterwards. I've seen some great comics here - Ralphie May, John Pinnette - and Ben Bailey was right there with them. I continue to look forward to continuing going to Cobb's Club and seeing more great acts. This one was great. I had a great time!!
We knew Ben Bailey was funny, witty and clever, but we hadn't expected to laugh so much that our stomachs hurt. He entertained us from the moment he took the stage and provided us with a memorable night. Ben Bailey is a must see!!
The review is pretty simple, Ben Bailey is hilarious! And Cobb's Comedy Club is a great little venue in North Beach. I would definitely recommend both.
The comedian that was the opening act for Ben Bailey had a highlight of chugging a bottle of Patron Tequila. ( Is that supposed to be FUNNY?) I expected to see Ben Bailey tell the audience his stories of bloopers that occurred on his show, Cash Cab. Instead,Ben Bailey seemed to be mad at the world that night. He screamed a lot and used a lot of profanity. Plus potty jokes were not too funny. I was disappointed.
Although Ben Bailey was very funny and entertaining, I would not have bought tickets had I known it was family weekend. Apparently he was told right before he went on that he had to tone down his act. I bought a ticket thinking I would see his entire act, not the "family" version.
