Engrossing experience
by SeanMT on 4/21/12Michigan Theater - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5This concert was a standout because I felt pretty much transported away during each piece. It's really an engrossing experience, because you feel included and pulled in by each solo. As each person plays, the thick, rich background made by the other three (and sometimes the "other four," given that they often play melody over the top of their own accompaniment) would be enough to keep you interested. The addition of completely unexpected musical directions (as well as lots of funny/interesting/happy/sad commentaries or quotations from other songs and genres) in the solos and melodies are what make it capture your attention completely. It's not just listening to music, it's really watching, listening to, and being part of a show that tells dozens of stories, even though most of them don't have words.
