Great evening - loved my first time hearing Bela Fleck and the Flecktones for the first time. I’m not really a Jazz lover, but loved their Blues infused material. Great balance of all the instruments. Particular to the Bass and Banjo. All 4 members of The Flectones (including Bela) are incredible musicians on their own. The second part of the show picked up great tempo. Was holding out for “Jed Clampet” but “Sinister Minister” brought the crowd to its feet. There were several seats unfilled at the Michigan Theater the night before the 4th of July. We moved to more open area during intermission for more leg room. Great evening leading into a long holiday weekend. They even played a awesome “God Bless America” and “Star Spangled Banner,” with red, white and blue back lights.
This group of musicians are the ultimate entertainers. They did minimum introductions and maximum music including fantastic solos. Would not hesitate to see them again.
This one hands down one of the best concerts and set of musicians I have ever seen perform. I have been to hundreds of concerts but nothing like this and nothing compares. The group is phenomenal and I hope to see them perform again some day. Absolutely made my day. I am so glad that I purchased these tickets as a gift for my boyfriend (and he let me go with him).
For our 26th wedding anniversary, I bought tickets to this show. My wife has been a Flecktones fan since '91. She loved it! These guys left everything on stage. A couple times, I don't know how they found the energy to perform the next song. Biggest surprise? Howard Levy. There were times it seemed like he completely stole the show, playing an amazing piano solo one-handed while playing a slam-dunk harmonica solo simultaneously! We'll be talking about this show for years.
Saw Bela Fleck in person many years ago. Even though his presentation has changed e.g. electronic music, his persona and his banjo are still a treat for the ears. The Taft Theater venue is a wonderful setting for music. Comfortably wide seating, site lines, easy aisles to navigate.
This was a passionate performance by unbounded talent! This is a show no one should miss!
It was such an honor to see four of the most incredible musicians on this earth live! So glad they came to Cincinnati and I was able to make it... wouldn't have wanted to miss it for anything!
The talent in these four musicians is unbelievable! From the start of the show until the very end, their ability to play is mesmerizing. It was a great show!
most amazing individuals plus even better as a group. So much skill. So much improv. Always fun to see.
Béla Fleck and Victor Wooten are two of the very best at what they do. The whole show was exceptionally entertaining if not completely mind blowing and it was one of, if not THE best show I’ve ever seen. I played my girlfriend some of the songs on my phone and you tube, but that in no way prepared her for such a spectacular display of songwriting and musicianship. Her mind was totally blown and she want to see them again so bad we may go to New Mexico!
The musicians were all superb. Especially enjoyed the harmonica/piano player. He played a cord, did rhythm, and played a melody all at once on the harmonica. Absolutely amazing.
I’m a huge Jerry Douglas fan and he was amazing as usual, but his band although fantastic did not play bluegrass. The Del McCoury Band was pure bluegrass and I loved them. The headliner, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are musicians extraordinaire! Bela’s Banjo skills are unmatched. But again not bluegrass. Excellent show, great weather, a fun evening but should have been billed as something other than a bluegrass show.
Béla Flek and the Flektones were incredible, something inherently mind blowing about four world class musicians who have played together for three decades! Chateau Ste.Michelle was a rad place to see a show, if doing GA, recommend getting there early and bringing all your picnic stuff, I saw people with little tables and multiple coolers who seemed to be doing it right!
Bela and the Flecktones continue to break all molds. They have the ability to keep everyone guessing what forms of music they will fuse together next. Each band member showed a tremendous level of talent, and Howard can play a harmonica like no other musician I have heard. They gave us one heck of a show.
Chateau Ste Michelle has been our favorite venue for over 20yrs...this is our first disappointment. The concert was titled as a “Bluegrass Festival”....the Bluegrass part of it was almost nonexistent. The 1st act offered some kind of a”Blues/Jazz fusion”. The 2nd act offered Grand ‘ol Oprey Country from the 1940’s, and Bela & the Flectones definitely had a signature sound...but, it wasn’t Bluegrass. Great & talented instrumentalists in each band, but the advertised Bluegrass never showed up
Bela Fleck and The Flecktones are incredible musicians. They appeared to be fully engaged and enjoying performing. The sets they did with Jerry Douglas, whose band was also on the bill were fantastic. one of those concerts that exceed your expectations. Performers who you want to go back and see live again.
Three great bands that all delivered in very different ways. Jerry Douglas surprised with a lot of non-bluegrass music. Del McCoury was classic bluegrass delivered with southern charm. And Bela Fleck was a complete surprise with The Flecktones ... incredible jazz-funk banjo-led ensemble!
Great Venue, Great Wine & Great Music. It was great!
My wife and I attended the concert last Friday titled Bluegrass Classic. We have been classic bluegrass followers for many years. This concert title was a significant misrepresentation of the concert theme as advertised. We have known the headliners over their careers and respected their bluegrass music at a high level. However, the Jerry Douglas band and Bela Fleck’s band did not play bluegrass; it was more like progressive, improvational jazz. Only Del McCourie and his band played classic bluegrass and it was great; but they didn’t even get to play an encore! We were extremely disappointed and left early. Please, in the future, be more accurate in how the concerts are advertised.
