About

BEIRUT IN CONCERT:

Beirut combines orchestral pop with world music to create intriguingly complex songs that are also infectiously catchy. Bandleader Zach Condon helms everything from vocals to flugelhorn to bring a uniquely diverse sonic palette into each sugary-sweet pop confection. In concert he surrounds himself with top-notch musicians, who infuse the band's indie rock sounds with eclectic folk instrumentation. By incorporating so many different influences, Beirut makes their concerts feel like a globe-trotting adventure for ticket buyers, who can’t help but sing along to familiar favorites like “Elephant Gun” and “East Harlem”.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Zach Condon was born in Albuquerque, NM in 1986 and raised predominantly in neighboring Santa Fe. Though his experience in jazz band taught him how to play trumpet and helped him gain an appreciation for complex musical expression, Condon dropped out of high school at 17. The budding prodigy was exposed to the diverse musical traditions of Europe on a soul-searching trip abroad, and he immediately began incorporating a wide range of international styles into his home recordings. Adopting the moniker Beirut, he released a collection of demos as his first full-length album Gulag Orkestar in 2006. The record became a surprise hit following the viral success of the music video “Elephant Gun”, leading Condon to put together a live band for an impromptu tour. The lineup stuck, and the group’s 2011 album The Rip Tide converted an entirely new segment of fans when the single “East Harlem” was featured on Pitchfork’s Best New Tracks. After a period of intense personal issues, Condon thrilled fans in 2015 with the announcement of Beirut’s fifth album No No No. As they continue to tour the world, Beirut seems destined to absorb the musical influences of every place they visit, incorporating each new sound into their signature chamber pop masterpieces.

  • Unbelievable!

by Reubs on 10/11/11The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Beirut is so wonderful on my iPod I doubted whether their sound could be recreated live. I was definitely wrong. Somehow they were even better live. Greatest concert experience of my life! Excellent performance! I highly recommend seeing them, I know I definitely will be the next chance I get!

AMAZING live performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was cool to know a lot of his family are from St. Louis, and the shout out to them was adorable. Warbly trumpet heaven!

This concert was pure joy from start to finish. The band was lively and jovial, the music (of course) was beautiful and the light show fantastic.

practically perfect in every way. beirut is an amazing band, and even better live. the venue was great. it had a small concert hall feel, but was big enough so that it did not feel too crowded.

Go see them...splurge on the good seats. Six talents muscians: Accordian, ukelele, trumpets, trombone, tuba, xylophone, keyboard, bass, drums, smooth harmonies, and great lyrics. Thanks for a terrific evening. Just wish the guy at the gate had returned ny tickets stubs after putting on my wristband for the pit. I regret not being able to put them in a place of honor amongst my collection.

  • Beirut never disappoints

by Outterspace on 10/6/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

We got in about 40 minutes after the show had already started and I was freaking out because I didn't want to miss a second of Beirut. We get inside and the opening act is playing, so I am ultimately relieved. Beirut doesn't come on for another half hour and I feast on the burrito we snuck in. My friend and I are high as can be off of magic cookies and grow increasingly excited for the incredible show to be had. He has never seen Beirut before and I saw them once when they played at outside lands in San Francisco, but could only stay for a few songs because I had to see Deadmau5, haha. I was disappointed that I barely got to enjoy their set so I'm ridiculously stoked for them to come on. Then the roadies placed all the instruments on the stage and the band took their places. EPIC. From the beginning to the very end Beirut blew my mind. Their so talented and Zach Condon is my husband, I love him, I love his voice, I love the harmonious squealing of trumpet madness he unleashed. The Accordion player is a complete boss, just an amazingly talented angel. Everyone would switch back and forth from different instruments, always keeping the audience wowed. I adored the xylophone, drums and tuba, such incredible news. Dear God their set was yummy. And when Zach whipped out the ukulele, the crowed roared. I was into it every minute they filled us with music. Annnd they came back for two different encores, each more thrilling then the last. Such a legitimate group of talent. I'll never forget the experience. If you haven't seen them, you simply and utterly must. So yeah, Beirut was sick!!!!

  • Beirooooooooot!

by drazowsky on 10/6/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. These guys are connected, pure, simple, real, excited, harmonious, harmonic, and compelling. Though their live performance varied little from their recorded work, there was a vibrancy to each song. My only complaint is the stage lights. Whoever thought it was a good idea to aim the lights at the audience should be forced to sit in the audience with the lights aimed at them. It was especially annoying during the opening act.

  • BEIRUT NEVER DISAPPOINTS!

by RjDj on 10/5/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

This is the 5th time I saw Beirut. I have been to the Fox Theater in Oakland and the sounds has been pretty awful in the past. I guess they worked it out because we sat upstairs for the Beirut show and it was awesome. We were way on the side in MEZZ H. The show was amazing with even more instruments played than the last show I saw. I love these guys and their non-stop horns

This show blew me out of the water. I love Beirut, but I definitely love them more live. They had lights like the elephant gun video and a fantastic light show. I was beside myself. I am always really impressed by musicians that can deliver. He did a whopping TWO standing ovations! So brilliant. He even played all the best songs. The electricity in that room was palpable.
