Beirut never disappoints
by Outterspace on 10/6/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5We got in about 40 minutes after the show had already started and I was freaking out because I didn't want to miss a second of Beirut. We get inside and the opening act is playing, so I am ultimately relieved. Beirut doesn't come on for another half hour and I feast on the burrito we snuck in. My friend and I are high as can be off of magic cookies and grow increasingly excited for the incredible show to be had. He has never seen Beirut before and I saw them once when they played at outside lands in San Francisco, but could only stay for a few songs because I had to see Deadmau5, haha. I was disappointed that I barely got to enjoy their set so I'm ridiculously stoked for them to come on.
Then the roadies placed all the instruments on the stage and the band took their places. EPIC. From the beginning to the very end Beirut blew my mind. Their so talented and Zach Condon is my husband, I love him, I love his voice, I love the harmonious squealing of trumpet madness he unleashed. The Accordion player is a complete boss, just an amazingly talented angel. Everyone would switch back and forth from different instruments, always keeping the audience wowed. I adored the xylophone, drums and tuba, such incredible news. Dear God their set was yummy. And when Zach whipped out the ukulele, the crowed roared. I was into it every minute they filled us with music. Annnd they came back for two different encores, each more thrilling then the last. Such a legitimate group of talent. I'll never forget the experience. If you haven't seen them, you simply and utterly must. So yeah, Beirut was sick!!!!
