About

BECK IN CONCERT:

Alt-rock icon and master of reinvention Beck made a return to form of sorts in 2014 with Morning Phase, a companion album to 2002's beloved Sea Change. Eschewing the irony and sampling featured prominently in many of his other outings, Beck's latest is awash with earnest optimism and acoustic instrumentation — the result is a lush, organic, emotionally charged tour de force that comes across as beautifully in live concert as it does on record. Backed by a full band, Beck hits the road in 2014 for the Morning Phase tour, which includes a much-anticipated appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Beck moved to New York in 1989 and cut his teeth in the city's anti-folk scene before returning to Los Angeles in 1991. In 1993, his limited-release single "Loser" became a surprise college radio favorite, eventually growing into a mainstream Top 10 hit and garnering him a flood of label offers. Signing with Geffen Records, he released Mellow Gold in 1994, launching to both critical and commercial success virtually overnight. 1996 follow-up Odelay would prove even more successful, spawning three hit singles and taking home several Grammys, including Best Alternative Music Album. In the ensuing years, Beck's creativity and fearless experimentation have made him one of pop music's most idiosyncratic talents — the acclaimed 2014 release of Morning Phase, his twelfth studio album, proved that he's just as vital today as he was 20 years ago.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Beck was ridiculously amazing. If you get a chance to catch him live, do it while you can. He is a true showman and should not be missed."

"As usual Beck put on an amazing performance. He played a few songs from each album (including the reader), and he played every last one spectacularly."

"He plays a mix of his old & new material, both acoustic & electric, he breaks out the harmonica, then plays a cover of Billie Jean. What!?! I only wish it could have gone on all night long."

Why can't budweiser stage sound better

by jimnto on 9/6/23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

We can send people to the moon and take pictures of mars - and yet we have poor to mediocre sound and pretty high ticket prices. Becks songs didn't work well there. Phoenix had poppy songs and everyone knew the lyrics. The best stuff Beck did was play harmonica and the slide guitar. Those were the most musical moments of the evening.

    Amazing night!

by Lo on 9/6/23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Lots of beautiful energy and both Pheonix and Beck were incredible performers and were super lovely in energy. I really enjoyed the show, their set lists and sound quality. I went to a lot of shows this summer at Budweiser, and this was by far probably my favourite!

    Sound issues

by WhiteRabbit on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

Great show but the db level was way way too high. If the volume was turned down a little it would have been a much more enjoyable show.

    Concert of the Year!!

by JNutter on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

What a great show! Beck & Phoenix co-headlined and each played over an hour and more than 15 songs each. Both artists played the hits and the crowd was dancing almost the entire time. My wife who usually ends up sitting part way through the headliner stood for the entire show. If you like either artist do yourself a favor and catch this Odyssey while you can. The opening acts were hit and miss - at least for my wife and my taste. Sir Chloe was a good alternative rock band with a female singer that we enjoyed. Weyes Blood - the other opener - was another female-fronted band that we just couldn't get into, however many in the crowd loved them. But of course the main attractions were Phoenix and Beck and you could just feel the energy level rocket up the minute Phoenix took the stage - it went up from there when Beck came on as most seemed to be there to see him. This will be my wife and I last concert for 2023 and we definitely saved the best for last. Great show!!

    Fantastic Night

by Jimbo on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

I saw Beck in Cincinnati 2019, He was great then but this show was even better! He had his “A Team” band and they had great energy together, there was more precision this time around. Fantastic set list with a couple moments where Beck had solos separately playing a harmonica and a Bluesy slide guitar. The guy is so talented he can play almost any instrument and put his own vibe on it. He’s won 9 Grammys, tons of great songs, incredibly diverse in his range, deserves to be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Highly recommend this show!

by Michael on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

Beck is an amazing perofmer! He had so much energy and performed many of his great hits, and lots of my favorite songs ever! He did a great job bringing energy to the crowd and made it an unforgettable night! Phoenix was great too, despite me not being too familiar with them, and Sir Chloe and Weyes Blood were also amazing! Unforgettable show!!

    Awesome Event, Great Venue

by drpk on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

I have never been to this venue at Pine Knob in Michigan. Being from NE Ohio, it reminded me a bit of Blossom Music Center. The venue was beautiful. I loved the different areas you can sit, water areas and food options. It might be a four hour drive, but I'll be back. The concert itself was phenomenal. Beck put on an amazing show. I saw him once in LA for an Adobe event and am grateful I got to see him perform again. Phoenix put on a great show as well. I've been listening to them for well over a decade, so finally getting to see them in person was nice. I enjoyed the two other openers as well.

Sick of trying to park at and get out of Pine Knob!

by jdhertz on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

We are so sick of trying to park at Pine Knob and then trying to get out that we decided to just skip the show. Pine Knob isn't worth going to any more, because they won't/can't do anything about their parking issues. We're done going to Pine Knob after this season.

by Tim on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

The Beck and Phoenix show was absolutely fantastic. I had never been to Pine Knob before, but it won’t be my last time. We loved the venue, parking was easy, so was the walk in, beautiful grounds, cool tree house, nice water features, and just all around awesome! Thank you for the real good time.

    Beck At Pine Knob

by SU on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

The agonizing experience of purchasing tickets leveled out by the great show Beck and Phoenix put on. I would prefer no support acts and have the co-headliners play longer sets. The people at Pine Knob were very kind and responsive to any problem.

    Beck is a consummate showman

by Akire15 on 9/5/23Pine Knob Music Theatre - Clarkston

This review is based on how I felt about the Beck portion of the show, not the openers, because I hated Phoenix’s set, with awful sound mixing making the vocals unintelligible behind the overwhelming sounds of the instruments. Beck, however, was amazing as always. He knows how to engage a crowd and keep them on their feet. The visuals that accompanied his talented vocals made for a masterfully immersive experience.
