  • Beauty and the Beast Critic

by BeautyAndTheBeastSnob on 2/12/13John Paul Jones Arena - CharlottesvilleRating: 2 out of 5

I've seen Beauty and the Beast several times, including on Broadway and by other touring companies. This was possibly the worst one I've seen. Some of the actors (mostly Gaston) did not fit the character. Also, call me traditional, but some of the jokes were just really bad. Another thing was that I couldn't tell if they were actually singing or not. On the bright side, Mrs. Potts saved the show by staying true to her character.

  • My wife loved it

by Finagill on 2/12/13John Paul Jones Arena - CharlottesvilleRating: 4 out of 5

I am not a big fan of musicals but my wife really loves them. She thought the preformance was amazing. I was surprised by how well the probs were designed.

Great acting. Wonderful music and singing. My niece loved the confetti flying from the stage.

  • Very enjoyable!

It was my 8 year olds first musical and he loved it. I think we'll be going to more Disney shows :)

  • Truly memorable!!!

by PrincessPlay on 2/12/13John Paul Jones Arena - CharlottesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Had the pleasure of taking my 2 little girls to see this show. It was well worth the late trip! The arena was a perfect place. Parking was a breeze. The doors opened right on time. And the show ended in a standing ovation by the crowds of people. A cast a true talent who obviously enjoy what they do everyday. Lots of talent!!!! Can't wait for the next show at JPJ. Looking forward to taking the rest of the family.

The show was great. It was fun to see a show with lots of little girls in the audience. It changed the 'feeling' of the show.

  • Should not have been titled Beauty and the Beast

by Daisy297 on 1/29/13Studio One Riffe Center - ColumbusRating: 1 out of 5

The title of this play was misleading becuase it gives the impression that it is at least someone based on the Disney fairytale. However, it was not. It was presented as a play for kids but was written in a style that kids did not relate to. The performers were talented but the play itself quite borring. My kids and I were very disappointed.

I felt the play was way to much for the age group that was there on saturday at 1PM. Nothing at all like we thought it would be. Did not resemble in any way Disney's beauty.

Not the Disney version, but still a great event for our 4 year old!

  • Terrible! Worst show I have ever seen. Seriously.

If you are wanting to take your children to see a beauty and the beast production, trust me this is not the one. There is no belle, no beast....just a very terrible production of the Italian version of beauty and the beast. Save your money....this is advertised and sadly misrepresented as a children's show, although not what you have in mind.

  • Don't bother.

by GramF on 1/22/13Studio One Riffe Center - ColumbusRating: 2 out of 5

The acting was well done. The play would have been fine had those there known ahead of time what was coming. It was not Beauty and the Beast, so far as all those kids who came know. I was surrounded by kids who kept asking when the beast was coming. In short, it was too silly for adults and too abstract for kids.

  • Incredibly idiotic and boring show

by StructureGuy on 1/21/13Studio One Riffe Center - ColumbusRating: 1 out of 5

Maybe we shouldn't have expected the play to follow the Disney version. It's incredible to me that anyone would think this play would appeal to anyone regardless of age. The play was set in Italy and they even spoke Italian in parts for no particular reason. The two "lovers" acted as if they were marionettes holding their arms out and tip-toeing sideways, again for no particular reason. It was just a bunch of dialogue that wasn't funny or entertaining. Every few minutes an annoying slide whistle would blow and the actors would extend their arms as if to say “Ta-Da.” The kids had tons of excited enthusiasm at the start but by the middle many were drifting off to sleep. This production was so incredibly bad that we couldn’t understand how someone could possibly think this thing was the least bit entertaining. I don’t fault the actors at all since they were all quite good but were just stuck inside this junk.

I love the Riffe Center, there were no bad seats in the theater. I would not go back to see it. The actors were great, but a very odd show for children. The masks and story line were boring for the kids. The were asking, "where is Bell and the beast?"

I am unsure of how they can even call this Beauty and the Beast, this should have been enjoyable for anyone, no matter what age, yet everyone, children included, were yawning and confused, less than 10 minutes into the show.

The play was wonderful! The venue leaves a lot to be desired, back stage activity is seen and distracting.

  • beauty and the beast was fair

It was ok .The performers especially Belle was excellent. She had the Disney voice.Every performer was great. The sound was pretty bad.It was hard to hear the performers. We were sitting the very top in the dd section.Side ways.We could see what was going on behind the stage. There was a lot of distraction.A lot of light.

  • Very Beautiful Play!

by SweetSusy on 2/23/12Toyota Center Kennewick - KennewickRating: 4 out of 5

Beauty and the Beast was very beautiful. The sets were simple, but effective, the costumes were wonderful and the singing was GORGEOUS! My only criticism would be the length. It started a little late maybe 7:40, but didn't get done until 10:15. It was too long for my little ones.

  • An excellent show

by SunnysideD on 2/22/12Toyota Center Kennewick - KennewickRating: 4 out of 5

I went to the show with my wife and three grandchildren. My granddaughters age 5 and 6 loved the show. It was a little long for my 4 year old grandson but he enjoyed it as well. I thought the show was well done. The songs you loved from the movie are here with several additional songs which were also quite good. The actor portraying "the beast "was an excellent singer. Belle sounded very much like the movie voice. Mrs. Potts was exceptional. The only problem was that the show started slightly after 7:30 and didn't get over until about a quarter after 10:00. Thats a little late for young children particularly on a school night.
