Spend the extra money and see it on Broadway

by JAKelly88 on 3/15/14St. George Theatre - Staten Island

I took my girlfriend to see this since her favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. Little did I know that this play had nothing to do with Beauty and the Beast. It had the same name, but a completely different story. They didn't sing any of the songs from the movie, nor were any characters from the movie. There were only 5 very poor actors in this play, one of which messed up his lines and stumbled over his words quite a few times. The main woman in the play wasn't even Belle. Belle instead was replaced by a woman named Beauty. There were only maybe 4 or 5 props for the whole play, and don't even get me started on the Beast costume. Do yourself a favor and never ever see this. I hope this production gets shut down very soon. At the intermission, I had to use the bathroom and I was so embarrassed that I almost couldn't go back to my seat to face my girlfriend. All we did the entire ride home is talk about all the things wrong with this play. I can't wait to take her to see the show on Broadway now.

    Beauty and the Beast

by MorningStar27 on 3/14/14St. George Theatre - Staten Island

This is not the classic Beauty and The Beast shown on broadway. This play was more for small children not adults. The lack of actors was a disappointment. The narrator played too many parts. It was not worth my time or my money.

Beauty and the Beast at St. George was Ok.

by Momoftwo1628 on 3/13/14St. George Theatre - Staten Island

The theatre was beautiful, if they ever close it down again it can re-open as a museum, that's how pretty it is. The show wasn't what I expected although I did see that it was NOT a Disney production. The photo above was not a scene in this play at all. In fact, the outfits are very outdated because they are telling the original story. There was a lot of children in the audience crying and moving around because at times they got bored. The kids didn't understand that this was beauty and the beast but not the animated version that they are use to. I still gave it a 4 because I saw it as a learning activity for my kids. My oldest who is 5 enjoyed it more than my 3 year old especially the songs. None of the songs from the animated version is in this play BTW. Also I don't know what play the other reviews are based on because it isn't this play.

    Deeply Disappointed

by BeautifulEden on 3/10/14St. George Theatre - Staten Island

My hubby, me and my daughter who is 3 years were deeply disappointed with poor performance. The Plot and story of its were totally difference with the Beauty and the Beast by Disney. My daughter asked several times "Mommy is this Beauty and the Beast"? during the performance. Mommy I can't see Mrs. Pots, Gaston, Lemierre, a lots of books......... etc. Also, I want to point out that the art of stage and music were shabby. My husband took off one day that has part time job in order to take our only daughter.

    Beauty and the Beast

by BBinBham on 11/1/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

This show was okay but I was disappointed in general. The added songs didn't enhance the story or add to those that were already in the well known movie by Disney. I also didn't like that they changed parts of the movie but do understand that part of it was because it was a stage production and that placed limits on what could be provided. I also was disappointed that ALL the actors seemed to be the same height...the Beast wasn't large and imposing so he really wasn't as dramatically frightening as he was in the movie. The Belle actor was almost as tall as the Beast & Gaston also - not much dramatic contrast between the "love triangle" charaters for this story production.

A story book came to life!

by Honestmama on 10/30/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

My 7 yo daughter and I were enchanted and enthraled from start to finish! (About 2.75 hours including 15-20 min intermission, by the way.) these performers sang, danced, and acted third hearts out as if auditioning for the queen! Scenery was sooo beautiful and cleverly executed (Belle running through the castle felt so real!) Costumes were gorgeous and fabulously creative, esp Luminiere! Speaking if whom, he almost stole the show with many laughs and truly a performer into character! Gaston was hilarious! The beer mug dance was so entertaining and unexpected fun! The maid was another favorite, so adorable! Beast and Belle, of course, were the shining stars with heartfelt performances that truly swept us all away right into a magical fantasyland! But it was Belle who pulled it all to the highest level with her perfection! Stunning voice, honestly convinced us she was the real deal princess and let her whole heart and soul out which made us all fall in love with her, want to be her, and led my daughter to announce she's going to read more books like her heroine! Disney on Broadway, every cast member, every staffer, director, producer....thank you for making my little girl fall in love with the stage and give us all a breathtakingly magically wondrous escape that was worth every penny! We paid $70 pp for noseblled tier seats and the story unfolded before us like tiny dolls in an enchanted music box! Next time I will buy tickets earlier for an even more amazing experience! xoxo

Beauty and the Beast was good.

by Shaunttey on 10/29/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

I enjoyed the play and would recommend it to anyone. At times I could not understand what was being said by the performers. I did not have that problem at jersey boys. It was also distracting to hear people around with the bags of popcorn..

    Magical

by mcbrichards on 10/29/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

As a child, "Beauty and the Beast" was my favorite fairy tale - and that was way before Disney reinvented it as an animated musical. My children grew up watching the Disney version, and it became a family favorite. When I saw that the stage musical was coming to Birmingham, I wanted to go, and decided to take my daughter along to celebrate our October birthdays. We had such a good time! The play was absolutely fantastic! The actors were great in their roles, and it was so much fun to laugh at their antics on stage. The music was excellent, especially the vocals by "Beauty", "Gaston" and "Mrs. Potts"! The barroom scene was amazing! The cast of characters were spot-on, and except for a bit of trouble hearing and understanding a couple of the actors, it was all great!! I hope it comes back again in a few years so we can take my granddaughter. She is only 4, and we didn't want to chance her being disruptive during the play. Next time, she'll be old enough to really enjoy the whole experience!!

    Beauty and the Beast...Absolutely phenomenal!

by MrsWRTP on 10/29/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

As a child, I adored Beauty and the Beast. I will never forget seeing it in theaters with my grandmother. Over 20 years later, I got to experience that same magic with a family of my own. Words can not describe the joy that a mother and wife's heart feels when her family comes together to enjoy one of her beloved past time treasures. My husband had never seen the movie. But the play has sparked his enthusiasm to see it. Even our teenage son was in awe of the performance. Wonderfully breath taking. I enjoyed experiencing the Disney magic all over again. Only time, it was live. Remarkable.

Beauty and the Beast was well done

by HuJay on 10/29/13BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

Belle's voice is beautiful, crystal clear, like bells. Costumes, sets and props were ingenious and extravagant. The principals all were enjoyable, it was easy to fall into the plot and enjoy. We were glad we were there, time and money well spent.
