BEAUTIFUL – The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
Featuring a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title song, BEAUTIFUL has a book by and Tony® Award-nominee and Academy® Award-nominated writer Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Josh Prince, and took home two 2014 Tony® Awards and a 2015 Grammy® Award.
Performances were lively and fun. Great music! Great talent!
It was a fun time . The music was excellent and the performers were great. I loved the story line. Our seats were in the Last row middle in the dress circle balcony. We my wife and I) were scrunched between two large attendees. As soon as the music started we move down two rows to empty seats and created elbow room for everyone . At intermission I needed to use the washroom. The single file line moved quickly and was very well organized. Overall was happy with the whole experience.
Show was spectacular! Show had great energy and music. All safety measures were followed. Wonderful experience
Our matinee performance was interrupted for about 30 minutes while a sound issue was addressed. We noticed that some performers were difficult to hear, especially those in musical groups. And the music in "Beautiful" is key and comprises much of the performance time. If this had been corrected perhaps the performance would have had more energy -- which was missing in ours. The sound was better after the intermission but still not great.
We were moving in our seats. We would have loved to dance in the aisles. The costumes were the best.
This was our first time back at a theater since the pandemic. The cast was so talented. The songs were great, a blast from the past which brought so many great memories. Loved it!
Entering the CIBC Theater is always a wonderful experience, with its magnificent decor. Great place for this delightful musical to be held! The show itself was absolutely marvelous. I can’t say enough about the cast; their talent was tremendous! Singing was excellent, acting was superb, filled with music galore! I was surprised at how many songs Carole King has written! I would definitely go again!
We truly enjoyed the voices, the music and the history portrayed in Beautiful! The songs and the story brought back many, many memories! Note: make sure you bring your vaccination card for admittance to the CIBC theatre!
Seeing the musical Beautiful was a fantastic experience. It was very well done with amazingly talented people. The music of course was a trip down memory lane. I absolutely loved it!
We arrived 5 minutes before curtain. Everyone working the door and the lobby made us feel relaxed as we readied our Covid cards ID"s and tickets. By the time we sat down in our wonderful seats we were ready to enjoy.
A wonderful show. Great voices and choreography. Her nusic is incomparable and it shows through in the story in the play. The only glitch a stop caused by a technical problem during the first act. CIBC theatre is a wonderful venue, only negative is the legroom being a tall person. Overall experience was excellent.
What a wonderful play with incredible performances. A very well acted bio of Carole King and her incredible story. Highly recommended.
My husband and I loved the story about a young woman following her dream to be a song-writer despite negative feedback from her family. The suffering she experienced, the highs and the lows, were poignantly displayed and her songs touched our hearts. Knowing all the words to the songs, we had difficulty not singing along. Both of us had the best time--our first trip into the city after the long Covid experience. We would love to see Beautiful again.
Carol King's life story is so interesting and her music never gets old
The theater was old world beautiful! Got there early so no line for checking vaccination and purse. Waited 10 minutes for them to open doors to go to our seats. The show was superb! Didn’t know this part of her life! The acting and music were wonderful! My husband and I enjoyed immensely!
I wanted to sing along with most songs. I remember them from my 20’s and 30’s.
Really enjoyed the performance and the the many hits in Carole King’s huge catalogue. The music made the show but there was also great casting and costuming. The rivalry between the two songwriting teams added humor. Very entertaining. Theater was intimate and beautiful. Thanks for offering pre-show champagne too!
The fast paced and brilliant staging made a fun filled and enjoyable evening. Love the story line and the music. It was so great to revisit so many songs from my life experiences. A definite must see!
Thoroughly enjoyed the show but this theater is not for the unfit person. Be prepared to climb steps for every single place you need to go unless you are fortunae enough to sit on the main floor. The seats are for tiny people and need to be replaced. Even if the theater is far less than accommodating I am glad I got to see a great show with incredible music.
Beautiful, pulls you in right from the start immersing you in Carole’s young adult hood of an aspiring musician. Taking the audience through her teenage upbringings and how she was drawn into the music industry. You’re then pulled into the complications and trials that all musicians face when trying to get their name out into the world. Romance begins and aspires new song writes and compositions between Carole and Gerry. The show lets you experience her successes with joy and laughter but also reminds us all that we all have our failures. The audience is captivated by a crumbling love life story and young Carole becoming a single mother. The show demonstrates how music can bring us all out of our hardships by calling to our souls reminding us of the light at the end of the tunnel and that we’re all Beautiful. It’s amazing to learn of the impact that a single woman had on our music industry across multiple decades and you learn why she is so respected and loved today. You leave the show at the end smiling from a group sing along and “feeling the earth shake under your feet”. One thought of mind you’re left with is -Thank you Carole.
