Really well-rounded line-up, and the performances were good, but Tom Lee Park is one of my least favorite venues ever. Apart from the mud (which was expected, so I'm not even factoring that in), the space is far too small for the number of tickets they sell and the lighting on the thoroughfares is dismal. Food is uninspired and there are far too many beer vendors. I'm all for people getting trashed if that's their dig, but the reason I prefer the bigger festivals is the encouragement for people to drink water and stay hydrated and healthy rather the encouragement to spend exorbitant amounts of money to get wasted, when all it causes is more issues with people passing out and throwing up and being generally belligerent. Cops are a common occurance, and as long as you're not openly partaking in illegal activities or being a major danger to other people, they'll mostly turn their heads. The security staff is incredibly helpful and pretty hilarious, too. All volunteers are friendly.

This event should take place later in the month when there is less of a chance of bad weather. With the exception of not being ale to buy apparel online before the event, and absolutley no seating in the park at all, everything was good.

Great Bands, Great Food, Fair Prices. Keep up the good work!! We Will Be Back

  • Ludacris was Amazingg!

by Akii on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Ludacris is a great performer. I was disappointed in Ke$ha though because she can't really sing but I still had a great time and would do it next year if the music artists I loved performed!

Bands were awesome but the obnoxious drunkards and over abundance of secondhand smoke definitely took away from the event.

Well put together, stages were not far away from each other and you didn't hear the music from the other stages. Good food and great fun!

  • B.o.b. & Godsmack were awesome!!!

by Prettypixie on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

B.o.b was overall my favorite concert because of the energy that he put into involving the crowd. Godsmack was amazing. Because of weather issues, they lost power three times and then managed to get it back after around 30 minutes and then finished their show for all the fans that lovingly waited. Ke$ha was who I was most excited about and she was the most disappointing. Everything was choreographed and she did not involve her audience. I found that every concert is better when you stand back because the crowds here are insane and people fight. Also make sure you wear rubber boots everyday not just the days it's going to rain because the mud at this event is horrible.

  • Great Concert weekend!

    by Kayyla24 on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

I couldn't say enough great things about the concert this weekend. I saw so many amazing artists over 3 days for 69 dollars. Yes, sometimes it would ran, but it was so energetic no one even cared. The trolley is a great way to get dropped off right in front of the concert. I dont recommend the taxi's at all. For only a dollar its about a 20 minute ride to miscellaneous stops around Beale ( we rode 'Riverfront Pass'). It was not overwhelmingly crowded and lots to shop and eat if you are ever waiting for a band. Non of the bands were extremely delayed, and most of the restrooms had toilet paper! We were almost always at the front of the stage so of course there was some pushing and muddy feet, but the majority of the crowd was very happy.

  • If you like a crowd

by Kutiepie on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

If you like a large (very large crowd) you will enjoy this event. The music was great and so was the selection of artist. But there were people every where. No room to breath or move around freely. It was the only think I didn't like. So I will not attend again, because I don't like that size of crowd. But if you don't mind being surrounded by others on all sides all the time, you will have a great time. If you are claustraphobic or don't like crowds..... stay away and do a smaller venue and event.

  • Flaming Lips was the show to see!!!

by AmandaRED on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

  • MUMFORD AND SONS SHOW WAS UNREAL

by anniepp on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

ABSOLUTELY UNFORGETTABLE. What a spectacular band. so talented and so special. I have been waiting for forever to get to see them and it was SO WORTH IT. i've always heard that they are even better live than on the record and that is 100% true (although their album is nothing less that exceptional). PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring them back in the future. They had such great energy and looked like they still genuinely loved performing those songs, even though i know they've had to do them so much. I guess i wouldn't mind either if my songs were that great:)

Surprisingly not too muddy this year, the concerts were great!

  • Great lineup!!!

by TigerRay on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

There were so many good artists to choose from that it was often difficult to decide who to go see. The diversity was great and the grounds were nice. The food vendors weren't as overly priced as I anticipated and the re-entry availability was appreciated. Also, the staff was very friendly. It was probably one of the friendliest staff that I have encountered at an event. The one frustration I had was the swarms of people that were confined in one area. I drove down to see Mumford and Sons and that concert was so packed that it was difficult to see or hear. I don't know if there is anything that can be done to improve that part or not but it was the one thing that was frustrating. I wish the sound system on that stage could have been louder because it was difficult to hear over all the people talking around me. I moved several times until I finally found a spot that allowed me to hear although I couldn't see. But I did get to see them live and, since they are scarce in their concerts at the moment, it was nice to see the festival be able to bring in such artists. It was also nice that they sell one day tickets. Some events don't do this so I am unable to afford entire festival tickets as well as take time off work and it was nice to be able to just go one day. Overall, it was very fun!

  • Stone Temple Pilots were awesome!!!!!!

    by Zelliebean1 on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

They were awesome in the '90s, and they are awesome now!!! There concert at the Beale Street Music Festival was proof of that--absolutely tremendous performance. Scott's voice still distince, Dean's guitar wailed, as Rob and Eric drove the beat...... They played tons of their old stuff and it sounded great mixed with some of their songs from the newest album. If you get a chance to see them anywhere.....GO!!!!!!

  • Charlie Wilson and Kirk Whalum were awesome!

    by Krissy00 on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

I went to see both of these artists and they gave more than great performances from beginning to end. I love their music and I think it was definitely worth my time.

  • Mumford and Sons & Luda were the best!

by Shenae on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

Overall event was great! The sound and lights were awesome.

  • Another Great Festival

    by Blueland5150 on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

This year's Beale Street Music Festival was yet another great time on the banks of the rising Mississippi River and listening to great live music. Highlights included Stone Temple Pilots, John Mellencamp, Lucinda Williams, Slightly Stoopid and so on. This is my favorite event of the year and I go every year. If you haven't been, you must.

  • Memphis in May

    by AUTiger1965 on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

Few venues rival the banks of the Mississippi and the home of the Blues to see a seriex of shows like this. The cost was incredible. There was a very respectful and ever present police force whjo worked with the crowd superbly. The music... OMG. What a phenomenal line up. STP, John Mellencamp,Mumford and Sons and so many more,

by lipsofanangel on 5/2/11Tom Lee Park - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

We got there before the gates opened up and got a decent spot on the rail. It was my 2nd time coming to the BSMF, I went two years ago, to see Hinder..but wow, there were sooo many more people at this years!! I went just to see Hinder, and left after their set, I got sick and couldn't stay for any of the other shows at the other stages, Hinder was amazing as usual!!! One less Reason was good. Did not like Sick Puppies at all.
