BEACH HOUSE IN CONCERT:

Dream pop duo Beach House plays a haunted rendition of ‘60s-style pop that is sure to captivate and mystify audiences wherever the group plays on tour. Singer/keyboardist Victoria Legrand is the focal point in concert, supporting her smoky vocals and graceful melodies with retro organ chords. Cutting through melodic basslines and minimal drum shuffles, guitarist Alex Scally weaves an intricate tapestry of chiming guitar notes. These sparse elements sound straightforward enough, but the group slowly adds layer after layer to create a climatic wall of sound on miniature epics like “Zebra”, “Norway”, and “Used to Be”. Ticket buyers can’t help but be swept off their feet as Beach House carefully constructs each intricate and atmospheric gem at their unforgettably hypnotic concerts.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

French-born vocalist/organist Victoria Legrand originally recruited Alex Scally to play bass for her Baltimore pop band in 2004, but he quickly romanced her away to form Beach House. Excited by the level of creative control they could achieve as a duo, the kindred spirits began composing their self-titled 2006 debut. Their atmospheric and mysterious take on classic pop struck an immediate chord with fans and critics, leading Pitchfork to name their debut one of the best albums of the year. The band signed to Sub Pop for 2010’s Teen Dream, which marked a major creative and commercial watershed for the band. While they’ve received increased attention in the following years, Beach House has kept their creative process unfettered: two best friends meticulously constructing one ethereal pop masterpiece after another. The results continue to transfix live audiences in concert and fascinate listeners on their recorded material, such as their critically praised 2015 album Depression Cherry.

    Total let down

    by J. T. on 7/13/22Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

Did not realize this was a standing only venue when I purchased the tickets. That should be made crystal clear in the advertising. We got there only to find out that there were no seats so we left without seeing the concert.

beach house AHmazing crowd awful - Louisville, KY

    by K. K. on 7/13/22

we got there after the opening act and we were in the middle towards the back. there was a clump of tall teenage boys right in the middle of the crowd with the shortest one being 6 ft. they pretty much blocked the view for everyone behind them. everyone was grumbling about them but nobody really did anything since we were all smushed together. probably our fault for getting there late and not finding a space in the front. however even tho i didn't see beach house half of the time bc of the crowd, they sounded amazing and the visuals were glorious. if you go to this venue, go early bc the floor is flat and there is no slant to it so if you're in the back, then you will not see the stage if the college basketball/soccer kids show up and block the view. This was at old forester's paristown hall.

The show was great! The fans were not

by Savanna Nieuwenhuis on 5/4/22GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

Beach House sounded absolutely beautiful live. They sounded exactly like I thought they would. It was my first concert and it was an awesome first concert experience! However, a lot of people at the venue couldn’t control their liquor. The people behind us were talking loudly, screaming obnoxiously, and pushing Into us. A drunk girl fell onto my friend and really messed up his shoulder so he had to leave early. The show was amazing but the fans totally ruined it.

    still thinking about it...

by madsalz on 4/18/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

i haven't been to a big concert since the start of the pandemic but seeing beach house was the best way to jump back in. the greek was a little chaotic - hard to find parking (not very clear if you haven't been before) and one massive herd line to get in then more chaos if you want to buy food/drinks, go to the bathroom, or buy merch but that's always expected. I missed the only opener (quick 30 minute set). beach house was incredible (of course) and their sound and lights were perfect. I wish their set was longer but I just can't get enough of them so I'll just have to see them again next time :)

    Great sound, boring presentation

    by Pawl Paw on 4/12/22

Individually, every song this band performs sounds wonderful. Collectively, they seem to stay in one gear the whole night and the concert gets very boring. I think they have the musicianship and capacity to mix things up a little more, while still adhering to their sound. I wish they would, because I really value the direction they've been successful at. I just don't want to hear a whole evening of basically the same approach again and again. I've bought tickets to see them twice now. I don't think I'll try again unless I hear something very new.

Great performance at a great venue

by JG on 4/12/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

First off it was a perfect evening, not cold and clear skies. The sound was great and the atmosphere was electric. We were privileged to hear new material and all the favorites. Victoria and Alex are masters at their instruments and James sound was precise and thunderous and their entire performance could be felt and it was a magical experience for us. Great Show and Awesome Band!!!

    by M. J. on 4/11/22

Felt so surreal and mesmerizing, I would've regret not going. The performance was beautiful, including the set. It was amazing seeing some songs become such emotional anthems for everyone there, literally so much fun to witness and experience.

    Best Performance Ever

by BigThiccChris on 4/11/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Beach House has been an artist I’ve wanted to see live for about 4 years now, and they did not disappoint! This show was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to, and I don’t see it being topped any time soon. The venue was really beautiful and had some great acoustics, and the crowd was good and felt like they were into the performance. My only complaint was PLEASE MORE DEVOTION REPRESENTATION.

Good but could have been better

by Anthony on 4/11/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I was very excited to see Beach House. Their attention to sonic detail is what I love about them so much. This performance seemed to me like they were trying to be too much like the record and wary of being too "live." Their sound team really did a disservice to them as well. The bass drum was so loud it was practically all you could feel from the bass tones during the whole concert. I doubt the drummer knew his kick was so heavy in the mix. From a visual standpoint I was disappointed that the musicians were silhouetted the entire performance. It felt like they were trying to hide from us. They were also positioned farther upstage than necessary. I didn't stay for the encore but on the way out I heard them tell the audience this was the biggest show they had done so far. That made a lot of sense after I heard that. Clearly they are still working out the kinks to the sound and stage presence. Still love Beach House, and I know they'll figure it out. But I'm beginning to think perhaps they are best seen/heard in smaller venues.
