About

BARRY GIBB IN CONCERT:

As a founding member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb is responsible for some of the most beloved and iconic songs of the 20th century, sharing a songwriting record with none other than John Lennon and Paul McCartney for having six consecutive No. 1's  on the Billboard Hot 100. Gibb's distinctive R&B falsetto — virtually synonymous with the '70s — is as impressive today as it was 40 years ago, eliciting collective swoons from fans during performances of disco hits like "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love" at his 2013 concerts. Gibbs may be the only surviving Bee Gee, but he more than holds his own as a solo performer, carrying on the band's legacy with another eagerly awaited string of concerts on the Mythology Tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born on the Isle of Man in Britain, brother's Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibbs founded the Bee Gees after their family relocated to Australia in 1958. Featuring intricate vocal harmonies, the band's early sound closely resembled the '60s-era rock popularized by the Beatles, earning them a string of international hits in the swinging decade including "To Love Somebody" and "Massachusetts." It was the band's turn to disco in the mid-'70s, however, that brought them their biggest success — their contributions to the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack propelled the album to No. 1 in the UK and US, ringing in the heyday of disco and landing them an impressive five simultaneous Top 10 singles in the US — a chart dominance that hadn't been seen since the Beatles' mid-'60s run.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The Barry Gibb solo concert was awesome. I think he did a fantastic job on his own without his fellow Bee Gees... Barry can do a show solo and deliver. It was very enjoyable, he sounds great, and can still hit those high notes."

"Barry looked and sounded TERRIFIC! He hasn't changed a bit. His voice sounded better in concert than any record I could remember. The song list was beautiful, and I really enjoyed some of his earlier recordings."

"Wow — we were blown away by how amazing the voice of Barry continues to be. He really touched our hearts with his reaction to the crowd. Rarely do you see an entertainer display such humility while performing, but Barry was the exception."

    He can still do it!

by Canuhearme on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Even though it's sad not to see Maurice and Robin, I'm glad that Barry is not giving up on performing. He has so many songs that he can sing it himself and he still have the 'voice'. Thank you Barry and keep on doing it. The fans love you!

    Barry Gibb was phenomenal!!!

by Hilopheim on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Barry Gibb's concert at the Hollywood Bowl was the most amazing concert and exceeded all expectations. His voice was so perfect and the joy and emotion was palpable in the air. He played for over 2 hours and still didn't get to all the hits but, every song that he choose was the perfection. The sound was amazing, the lighting was perfect and his banter with the audience was fun and personal. I would go see him again wherever he plays without a doubt!! A true legend and it showed!!

Barry Gibb: Mythology Tour was a memorable evening

    by Redhead56 on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

From the first song, Barry Gibb had the audience in awe. A heartfelt trip down memory lane with the last surviving Gibb brother, with some help from his eldest son, Steve, and his niece (Maurice Gibb's daughter.) Barry showed personal photos of his family intermingled with songs that reminded us of the monumental impact the Gibb brothers had on the music of the 60's, 70's, 80's...music that will last for eternity. I posted on Facebook that this is a must-see concert, one of the best I have ever attended!

    freaking great . . .

by mellamodori on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I don't know if I can adequately explain how really wonderful this concert was. I have been a Bee Gee Fan for 40 yrs. This is a especially emotional event for fans & Barry alike because it is suppose to be the last concert/farewell since 2 of the BeeGees have passed. Barry choked up several times singing & talking to the audience. At the Hollywood bowl on a beautiful night listening to my teen crush. Thank you to the fun peeps in Garden 4, row 41 for singing & dancing with me. The night was magic!

Disco Lives On with Barry Gibb!!

by Shayritu on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

You would never know that it wasn't the heyday of disco with the way Barry Gibb could hit the high notes had you not noticed the obvious age change in the crowd. What a great show. He performed the great hits of the 70's and his 80's hits but also did an amazing job with Bruce Springsteen and Andy Gibb hits. A great evening.

    Spectacular Performance!!

    by MJM1916 on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I've seen Barry Gibb with the Bee Gees a couple of times before and have enjoyed their music for years, so I wondered how he'd be without his brothers--amazing is putting it mildly! His voice was in top shape and his band and backup were superb. Great that he still had a family affair going on with his son and niece participating. Though clearly missing his brothers he still seemed very comfortable performing and interacting with the audience. He said he hoped to come back soon and if he does, go see him. He's truly a legend.

    AMAZING NIGHT OF MEMORIES!

    by Marnie70 on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Barry Gibb's concert was beyond awesome. He is still amazing after all these years. He sounded great and sang all my favorite songs. I love the fact that his son and niece both sang with him. The tribute to his brothers warmed my heart. I've loved the BeeGees since I was a kid and to see Barry Gibb was a dream come true. The Venue was great. Beautiful weather. Couldn't have asked for more. I also got a treat by having Barry Manilow walk a foot in front of me. He was like right there in front of me. My daughter went up and she asked if she could take a picture and he was so gracious to her. I will definitely go see Barry Gibb again.

    Unforgetable evening

    by paeagle53 on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The concert was nothing but fantastic. Barry setup was great with the screens. Nobody left their seats. When Barry said goodby, as the audience began to leave, he gave everyone a surprice song from Robin Gibbs. Everyone stopped on a dine to hear the song. Nobody move or said a word. It was magical.

    Barry held his OWN!

by JoAnnLachance on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a GREAT show. Barry did an awesome job reflecting on the three decades he played music with his brothers. Although they were missed, Barry carried on with respect and dignity for all three of brothers, Maurice, Robin and Andy. We had great seats right up the center behind the pit. The sound was great as was the lighting and projection. The weather was perfect, no need for a jacket until the treck down hill. I'm so glad I went. Barry is a legend and a show not to have missed. I feel very blessed to have been a part of the very last show of this tour.

    Fantastic performance

by BostonJoe on 6/7/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Always wanting to have seen the Bee Gees in concert, I was thrilled to be able to see Barry Gibb perform. Fantastic show. He still has a great voice. He sang classics from all phases of the Bee Gees' career as well as songs written by the Bee Gees but performed by others (Frankie Valli's "Grease", Kenny & Dolly's "Islands In The Stream"). Three talented background singers (including one who would make Streisand proud on "Guilty" and "Woman In Love"), great band, Barry's son on guitar (& featured singing on some songs) and Maurice's daughter also singing. His brothers were never far from Barry's mind and were part of the show, with photos and videos of the brothers (Andy too) and Barry speaking lovingly of them throughout the performance. A touching moment came with Barry starting "To Love Somebody" and then seeing Robin on screen singing, turning the song into a duet.

If you're a Bee Gee's fan, you don't want to miss this! Barry was wonderful and still has that spark that we used to get when there were three! Barry's son sings as well as his niece who has a fabulous voice. The Hollywood Bowl was an iconic venue for this concert. Very enjoyable with good seats no matter where you sit. Thank you Barry for making my dream come true. There goes one more off of my Bucket List!
