About

BARRY GIBB IN CONCERT:

As a founding member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb is responsible for some of the most beloved and iconic songs of the 20th century, sharing a songwriting record with none other than John Lennon and Paul McCartney for having six consecutive No. 1's  on the Billboard Hot 100. Gibb's distinctive R&B falsetto — virtually synonymous with the '70s — is as impressive today as it was 40 years ago, eliciting collective swoons from fans during performances of disco hits like "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love" at his 2013 concerts. Gibbs may be the only surviving Bee Gee, but he more than holds his own as a solo performer, carrying on the band's legacy with another eagerly awaited string of concerts on the Mythology Tour in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born on the Isle of Man in Britain, brother's Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibbs founded the Bee Gees after their family relocated to Australia in 1958. Featuring intricate vocal harmonies, the band's early sound closely resembled the '60s-era rock popularized by the Beatles, earning them a string of international hits in the swinging decade including "To Love Somebody" and "Massachusetts." It was the band's turn to disco in the mid-'70s, however, that brought them their biggest success — their contributions to the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack propelled the album to No. 1 in the UK and US, ringing in the heyday of disco and landing them an impressive five simultaneous Top 10 singles in the US — a chart dominance that hadn't been seen since the Beatles' mid-'60s run.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The Barry Gibb solo concert was awesome. I think he did a fantastic job on his own without his fellow Bee Gees... Barry can do a show solo and deliver. It was very enjoyable, he sounds great, and can still hit those high notes."

"Barry looked and sounded TERRIFIC! He hasn't changed a bit. His voice sounded better in concert than any record I could remember. The song list was beautiful, and I really enjoyed some of his earlier recordings."

"Wow — we were blown away by how amazing the voice of Barry continues to be. He really touched our hearts with his reaction to the crowd. Rarely do you see an entertainer display such humility while performing, but Barry was the exception."

    Barry Gibb was fantastic!

by twavvy on 6/9/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I would go see him again in a heartbeat. He is such a class act, and his son and niece are very talented in their own right. The opening act, Jared and the Mill were a pleasant surprise.

What an amazing concert. I hope Barry Gibb returns to do another concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He put on quite a performance, including the audience every step of the way. Honoring his brothers was very touching. This concert truly touched my heart and I'll remember it forever!

    Absolutely Incredible!

    by Chris001 on 6/9/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Barry played for just over 2 hours and left no stone unturned in the catalog. He played early Bee Gees, Disco Bee Gees, 90's Bee Gees and Andy. His family was involved and the show properly payed tribute to one of music's most influential contributors. Barry's voice was top notch and he never missed a beat. I have been waiting decades to see the Bee Gees and Barry delivered. On top of the concert, the Hollywood Bowl is an incredible place to see a show. The acoustics are fantastic. We had a terrace box that was great.

    A Living Legend Worth Seeing

    by EaglesFan19591994 on 6/9/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Took my teenage daughter to see Barry. Really miss Robyn and Maurice. He had music video that seamlessly interwove with the live music that brought in his brothers. Other additions include performances by his son Stephen and niece Sami. All in all well done and it made for a memorable evening. If you will not settle for less than the Bee Gees, it may not be for you. My teenage daughter loved it, and amazingly she successfully predicted all the songs that were performed during the encore. I don't know how she does it. If you have an opportunity to see Barry take advantage of it.

I have been a BG fan since I was 13!! Due to certain circumstances, I have never been able to see them live, until the other night! Barry was awesome! With the help of his son Steven and Maurice's daughter Sammy, it was a great family reunion and a total Bee Gees fest! For anyone who is a true fan--please see this show! You will not be disappointed!

Barry Gibb is the Bee Gees!

by kalsign on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Barry Gibb played almost two and a half hours of the most popular Bee Gees songs. His voice was pitch perfect. His sentimental tribute to his brothers through well-chosen songs was wonderful and heartfelt. His oldest son, Steven and niece, Samantha Gibb accompanied him and sang a few songs as well. Loved every minute of the show! I sure hope that Barry tours again. I would go!!!!

    Barry Gibb: Continue your Legacy

    by RP99 on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The Last time I saw the Bee Gees was on DVD when they had a one event at the MGM in Las Vegas. That was awesome, with surprise Special Guest Celine and Olivia. It was awesome that Barry has arranged this Concert. His family members were a good supplement to the sounds. It would have been a great gesture if John Travolta and Olivia would have made an appearance and acknowledged the last remaining member of the Band that produced the Music for the Movies that helped them become famous.

Haunting. Joyful. Emotionally & Vocally Safisfying

by HollywoodBunys on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It's the Bee Gee's ... right? They were the Baby Boomer's soundtrack. Saturday Night Fever & Disco. Why wouldn't you go? Then you remember ... they're all gone but Barry. After we bought the tickets, I kept wondering to myself ... "how is he going to pull this off all alone"? ... I was actually nervous for the concert to start. Once on stage, the show had perhaps a slower start than I had expected and I became more nervous. But 20 minutes into the show, things started to happen. The mood shifted. the crowd got comfortable, and Barry was fully carrying "the load" on his own. Throughout the night, the intensity increased and the vocals got stronger. Yes, he can still hit the high notes :) ... but he paces himself and saves most of them for the last 1/2 hour. Throughout the night, there were many touching tributes to Maurice, Robin and Andy. You could feel the love and the pain, and maybe a sprinkle of regret here and there. Barry has included Maurice's daughter Sami, and his oldest son Steve in the show and they are AWESOME. She's got some likeness to Bonnie Raitt and his son Steve literally growls with soul and intensity. Steve could not be more different than his Dad. These two are definitely not in the show for fluff or to pull at your heart strings, they are REALLY good. The entire night was a joy! But the thing I came away with most - the thing I will never forget - is that Barry literally lost 10-15 years on the stage. He came on stage as the last BG. 68 years old. But he left looking like he was 50! It was like singing the songs and giving tribute to his brothers lifted the strain or sadness from his face. My husband totally agreed. We both thought this age/spirit transition was amazing. Of course the encore was great :) DISCO madness! The entire Hollywood Bowl was on their feet. Love was flowing at the Hollywood Bowl for Barry and the Brothers Gibb. As Barry exited the stage, they closed the show with a very life like video of the 3 of them singing "Massachusetts". It was the perfect ending to a perfect night. Thank you Barry. I would imagine doing this tour is bittersweet - but you pulled if off with lots of talent, great memories, and love. It's been a good ride for the Boomers and you guys made the soundtrack we will never forget.

    OFF THE CHART

    by ANDYBEATLE2 on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

SEEING BARRY GIBB LAST WEEK WAS NOT ONLY GETTING A TASTE OF THE TREMENDOUS HITS OF THE BEE GEES, IT WAS LIKE GETTING THEM ALL FRESHLY UPDATED AND FINE TUNED TO MUSICAL PERFECTION. I HAVE TO ADMIT I THOROUGHLY ENJOY BARRY WITH HIS FINE BACKUP TRIO AND MAURICE DAUGHTER SAMMY DOING A FEW SONGS. THE SINGING AND 8 PIECE BANDS WERE STELLAR. HARD TO SAY WHEN I HAVE SEEN A BETTER CONCERT(AND THAT INCLUDES FAV PAUL MCCARTNEY). WE CANNOT WAIT FOR ANOTHER GIBB MYTHOLOGY TOUR IN THE NEAR FUTURE. BARRY SAID HE WOULD BE BACK IF THE FANS DEMANDED IT. WE CERTAINLY DO.

One of the Greatest Concerts of All Time!

by LGII on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The show was amazing. It was an intimate evening with a pop legend, who opened up his family history while relaying fascinating details about the music. The performances were emotional and real and underscored the genius at work that created them originally. There were quiet moments about songs that mattered to Barry, his brothers and the music-listening world. At times Barry thoughtfully narrated the meaning of a song with only his acoustic as accompaniment and then, other times, the band kicked into overdrive. The entire audience stood on its feet, swaying and dancing as if by design. The evening proved that great songs are always great and stand the test of time.

    Amazing Show

by SingingSecretary on 6/8/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

In my many years of attending concerts I have seen many wonderful performances and shows. But as soon as Barry's show ended, I looked to my sister stating that this was one of the BEST shows and performances I have ever seen. The incorporation of his son and niece as well as video footage and photos of Andy, Maurice and Robin made this such a special and emotional show for not only me but others who were sitting near me as I wiped the tears from my eyes observing that they were wiping tears from their own. If Mr. Gibb decides to do additional shows and the opportunity arises, I would definitely recommend it for those who loved the Bee Gees as well as ALL of the wonderful music they have created over the years. This show was definitely something very special and lovely.
