    Amazing night of musical competition

by Jay on 11/14/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

This was my first time seeing the show and needless to say I was blown away by the performances. The bands were amazing and the effort to keep everyone organized was top notch. Kudos goes out to everyone who made the event happen. Special shout out to the parents who support your kids. I could see the passion from everyone in the crowd. And lastly but more importantly a thank you to my daughter for suggesting we go see the event. Her passion for color guard is what brought us here. I’m a very proud dad to a marching band kid!! Thank you.

Event great. General admission/reserved seating issues

by BandDad3 on 11/14/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

The new seating policy for reserved seating was horrible for our group and made it hard to establish a 'home base' for our group of students in the upper sections shared by general admission. Make it all general seating. The event itself was very enjoyable and well done.

    Wonder experience

by Jjpros on 11/14/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Spectacular event. Fantastic experience for all bands and spectators. However ran extremely late on Saturday. Something should be done to get done at an early time.

Don't Miss The Grand National Championships

by Robert Littlefield on 11/14/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Bands of America runs some of the finest music contests in the nation. The venue, Lucas Oil Stadium, is one of the few in America capable of hosting these big events - and it was designed with marching bands in mind. It's hard to believe you are watching high school kids out on the field when the top marching bands perform. The level of musical talent, the marching skills, the visual element, is sometimes right up there with DCI corps. My two quibbles with Bands of America is they let in bands that have no business being in something called the Grand National Championships - very small bands that show up every year and score in the 60's or even 50's. What do I want to watch these groups? Second, their geographic appeal is shrinking, maybe due to travel costs. This year I think they were down to 17 or 18 states sending bands. The first year I went is was 27. Despite these quibbles, the GNC's are quite simply the best high school marching band event in the world, and well worth the ticket price (well below DCI!) and the travel.

    What were judges seeing

by Bando on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Stadium and seating were awesome. Not sure what the judges were watching as they had much different opinions than the crowd. Must all be from the area

    BOA Music Mafia

by Not from Indiana on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

It was gut wrenching to see so many amazing and better performances from out of state bands passed over for …… Indiana bands. This competition holds true to favoring the local high schools. Personally would not recommend BOA Nationals competition.

    BOA

by Band mom on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

The event is well organized and they do a great job of staying on time with the event. I do wish it was more affordable. You have to pay for each section of the event separately, because you don’t know if your band will advance to the next round. We spent almost $400 between preliminary and semifinals to watch our child perform. I know it costs a lot to put on these events but WoW that’s a lot and we live in Indianapolis so didn’t need to buy good or pay for lodging.

    Excellent!

by Susan on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Never been to anything like this before. It was excellent, I would go again. Traveled to Indiananpolis from Texas to see my granddaughter participate in this event. It is amazing to me the talent these high school students have. The program was run like a clock. Nearly everything followed the time schedule. I did not like how we had to exit the building between the semi-final and the final performance, I guess I understand why. My only real complaint is that having these poor exhausted kids(and some of us spectators who were there all day) wait until after midnight to hear the final results is crazy. Way too late!

Music was awesome & so we're the bands.

by Needing fairness on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Bands that have UIL rules can not compete against FAIRLY against bands in other states that have no UIL rules. In other words, states like Texas that start practice in July can not compete equally with states like Indiana who start practicing for this competition in May. In other words, these states that have no UIL rules to follow can have an extra 2 months of practice head start on bands that have UIL rules to follow. Tell me the fairness in this!

by Vishal A on 11/13/23Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

This was my first time attending with my daughter's high school band. I loved the performances, colors, music, dances, energey and enthusiasm, and really everything about it. I would attend again and would recommend anyone who has a chance to experiece it but has not yet, to go and see it for yourself. It's a pleasantly memorable experience!
