    Dracula was awesome

by AidenMax on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

The venue was great, the show was even better! Would definitely recommend for a night out.

    Dracula was incredible!

by Nukkahead on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

Wonderful show. Ian Morris was spectacular as Dracula. His movement was powerful, elegant, at times--sinister. His leaps almost bordered on "supernatural", and his character without words was believable. Gabriel Zertuche's choreography was brilliant--with movements aligned wonderfully with the music and convincingly telling the story.Carlos, Mina and Lucy danced their roles beautifully. The set design, lighting and effects were top tier, lending a wonderful and convincing backdrop for the performance. I highly recommend this beautiful and entertaining ballet to all.

    Dracula

by ccballet1 on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

It was impractical to think that a show in San Antonio, running for two days only would start on time. However, after the first slow and rather boring act, I was impressed. The skill of the principal dancers was rather fair and overall a cute production.. ish

    A series of unfortunate events

by Anonymous on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

I was excited to watch the Dracula Ballet at the Lila Cockrell theater. It was to be a special reason to get dressed up and then have a night on the town. It was disappointing for a few reasons however. Let me preface by saying that the actual production was quite nice. The dancers were all wonderful to watch. My only suggestion would be to make it bigger. The set pieces seemed a tad too stylized when they were included. In addition, more set pieces would make the production seem far more complete. The mishaps, however, lie with the actual venue. The Lila Cockrell Theatre is located inside the convention center. The website's directions made no such mention. My date and I were lost for 20 minutes locating the place. Furthermore, there was no mention of how to enter the theatre. There were only two ways to get into the convention center as the remaining doorways were completely locked!! We traveled for another 15 minutes trying to get in. Next, the staff needs to be trained on theatre etiqutte. The ushers were in the auditorium not outside to assist. The hallway lighting was at full luminosity so that each time they opened the doors to the auditorium, light would pour in and ruin the effects within. Food was allowed in the theatre and served as a gargantuan distraction to various patrons within earshot of crumbling, wrapper, plastic. The audience was also a problem as they were allowed to enter in and out on a whim. Overall, it was a quality production, in a disrespectful venue. I felt embarrassed most of the time. I hope to attend other productions at this theatre and sincerely hope they have made improvements.

Dracula was amazing. The music was fantastic and the dancers were awe-inspiring. Even if you aren't normally a fan of the ballet, the entire Dracula experience of it is more than enough to keep you enthralled.

    Dracula Was Inspired

by KimiCoconuts on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

Everything about this production was top notch. The music, the costumes, the sets, the choreogaphy and the dancing. I easily gave it a standing ovation. Lucy was especially delightful and talented, she was a stand out for me. The males dancing was incredible and the height of their leaps were amazing! I love the big numbers with the costumes and music. Bravo!! The only negative thing I have to say is that the production started very late. I assume that was due to the number of people flowing in late to the show. The show doors should close after a reasonable time, even if people can't seem to arrive on time.

The Ballet was great; except the attendees

by KatUhstrauphik on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

The ballet itself was great. It was a beautiful rendition of Dracula. The sets were well done. The music was great. The principle dancers were amazing. Dracula and Lucy were phenomenal dancers. Only compaint, and it's a big one, is the attendees. People were walking around during the performance. They were allowing late seating, which was very distracting. People were talking throughout--not whispering; talking. While I appreciate that there was a bar, I did not appreciate that people were cracking open beer cans and crunching on ice cubes while I was trying to enjoy the performance. It was very distracting and rude. The ushers really need to crack down on people's inappropriate behaviors.

    Ballet was amazing

by Anonymous on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

No better place in San Anotnio to have an intimate display of dance than the Lila Crokrell Theater. Other venues would overwhelm the size of this production. Unspoken words were clearly displayed on stage as the action and tempo of the ballet played itself out on stage. Well produced and cast. Bigger productions and budgets could not have produced the level of intensity that was poured out on stage. Although, part of the storyline was lost when Lucy (Saki) was seduced, swept away, and turned into a vampire. Other than that, clear storyline and masterfully performed by the two lead dancers,

Not the expected presentation of Dracula but I had fun all the same. The dancers were elegant, the costumes were beautiful and the story line was easy to follow. Loved mingling with the cast afterwards!!

    Dracula...fun for all ages.

by girlschool on 10/17/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

We celebrated my 12 year old daughter's birthday at the the theater and the pack of preteen girls could not have been happier. I was also accompanied by my 18 and 9 year old daughters and the sentiment was the same...Excellent performance! Unfortunately we were about as far back in the theater as you could get, but that did not damper our spirits. There truly is no bad seat at the Lila Cockrell. The cast was amazing and my hat goes off to the San Antonio Ballet Company.

    Non-ballet fan enjoys ballet.

This production really had the look & feel of Dracula, starting on the walk in to the theater - there were ghoul mannequins, red lights, ushers in costume etc that started to get you in the mood before your ass hit the seat. After the curtain rose, the sets, lighting, and costumes really set the theme. The dance told the story effectively, particularly the bite and fight scenes. I'm sure a trained eye would have been able to pick up more than that. It's always nice to get dressed up and go to a show. Most of the patrons were well dressed, with a little added Halloween fun & flair. I felt under dressed in my Texas tux--will don a suit for the next one.

The dancers were great, but there was no orchestra and the story did not work well as a ballet. For example, Renfield was onstage in two scenes for no apparent reason, was never explained, and was pretty much cut from the story. If I hadn't already read the book and seen Dracula films I would have been very confused. For the price I don't think it was worth it. The set also seemed very amateurish.

    Dracula was absolutely fabulous!!!

by irenehollimon on 10/16/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

Everything about this show was outstanding. I couldn't believe it was over when it ended. The time just flew by. The costumes were outstanding. The lifts the Dracula character performed looked effortless. I was stunned by the amount of acting and emotions the characters portrayed.

    Me, go to a ballet?

by ctrios on 10/16/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San Antonio

This was first ballet ever and I was extremely impressed. Wasn't expecting absolutely no dialogue, but was still thoroughly entertained. I WILL attend more ballets in the future. Lila Cockrell Theater is very impressive as well. Very comfortable, roomy, and classy. Great evening.
