Bad Company on Tour

The band that helped define hard rock in the 1970s, Bad Company remains one of the most exciting purveyors of the heaviest of sounds. The incomparable voice of Paul Rodgers may be the biggest reason for the enduring power of Bad Company classics like "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Rock ‘n' Roll Fantasy."

The latest chapter in the history of this British rock institution began when the surviving original members reconvened in 2008. Revitalizing a repertoire drawn from such hit albums as 1974's Bad Company and 1976's Run With the Pack, Rodgers earned Bad Company a new generation of fans with the help of co-founder and drummer Simon Kirke — who'd originally joined the frontman in the British rock band Free — and two more recent recruits in longtime Heart guitarist Howard Leese and bassist Todd Ronning.

Bad Company's summer 2019 tour includes two concerts with Lynyrd Skynyrd, who were their tourmates for a joint 40th Anniversary Tour in 2013 and The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour in 2018.

Bad Company Background

Of all the rock supergroups of the ‘70s, Bad Company had the most unbeatable pedigree. Formed in 1973, the band combined the powerhouse team of vocalist Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke — both of Free, the rockers behind "All Right Now" — with Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Under the guidance of legendary Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, the new band quickly became one of the biggest acts in rock.

Released in 1973, Bad Company's multiplatinum self-titled debut boasted a blues-based sound that was undeniably heavy yet just as remarkable for the players' agility and the songs' R&B swagger. It inaugurated an incredible run that continued with four more hit albums and such hit singles as "Bad Company," "Feel Like Makin' Love," and "Rock ‘n' Roll Fantasy."

After the original lineup splintered in 1982, Rodgers would find success as the leader of The Paul Rodgers Band and as a creative partner for his friend Jimmy Page in The Firm. The reunion of all four members at Peter Grant's funeral led to new recordings and new tours between 1999 and 2002. In the wake of the singer's hugely successful collaboration with Brian May and Roger Taylor in Queen + Paul Rodgers, Bad Company was relaunched in 2008 and continues to make good on its heavy-duty reputation.

The Doobies Bros. sounded better than ever and we didn't want them to leave the stage. Bad Company's Paul Rogers is a great presence and his voice is golden. Both groups were fantastic.

    Outstanding and Fun!

by Colleen on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

The Doobies were great! Lots of fun and energy. It was a walk in my past and a lively one! Those guys still got it! Bad Company was absolutely outstanding!! Paul Rogers still has that incredible, distinctive, beautiful voice. It was almost hauntingly clear and seemingly unchanged over the years. They put on a great show...highly entertaining and quite the crowd pleasers. Both groups were very interactive during the entire show.

    Bad Company still has talent

by DebraJo on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Both bands were great. Sometimes when you see these classic rock bands, they have lost their voices or their ability to play the tougher parts of the music. However, both the Doobie Brothers and Bad Company sounded very much like they did in the 70s. It was very enjoyable.

    Absolutely incredible

by apeman on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

This is by far the best concert I have been to. The Doobie Brothers came out in full force and kicked things off. This was a little surprising, I had no idea they would sound as good as they did. And then Bad Company took the stage. From the opening lines of "Can't Get Enough", right on through to "Bad Company" as the closing number, this show was pure energy. Paul Rodgers sounds like he's 20 years old again, Mick Ralphs' finesse on the 6-string is magnificent, and the first word that comes to mind when describing Simon Kirke is "powerhouse." Almost 40 years after they first took the stage, Bad Co. still delivers.

    Doobie Yes, Bad Co No

by atorch4u on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

I cannot believe the fact that the Doobies were the opener for Bad Co. In their heyday the Doobies outshined the Bad boy from Bad Co easily. Just look and listen to their respective catalogues. Bottom line about 4 or 5 songs into Bad Co show we got up and left regardless of what the crowd seemed like, this is true even with the fact that 3 of the Doobie Bros came out and play Rock and Roll Fantasy with Bad Co. Bottom line I would have stayed all night if Doobie Bros had been the hedliners, they were great!

    Bad Co. was awesome!

by Marleeeney on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Concert was more than what we expected for a bunch of old guys - Crowd was good however standing most of the time is hard on that slanted floor in the pavillion and the pot smokers need their own place to go. All in all it was a good time!

    Bad Company were outstanding!

by JDKDF on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Last night at DTE was The Doobie Brothers and Bad Company. As always, the Doobies put on a great, hit-filled, tightly played set. They are always high energy and you can see how much they enjoy performing. Bad Company were outstanding. Although a short, 10-date tour after many years off the road, they put on a great concert. Paul Rodgers voice is as good as in the 70's, MIck Ralphs guitar playing was in top form and Simon Kirke on drums provided a solid beat. The crowd reaction was the usual boisterous, appreciative Detroit style. A GREAT Concert.
