Bad Company on Tour

The band that helped define hard rock in the 1970s, Bad Company remains one of the most exciting purveyors of the heaviest of sounds. The incomparable voice of Paul Rodgers may be the biggest reason for the enduring power of Bad Company classics like "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Rock ‘n' Roll Fantasy."

The latest chapter in the history of this British rock institution began when the surviving original members reconvened in 2008. Revitalizing a repertoire drawn from such hit albums as 1974's Bad Company and 1976's Run With the Pack, Rodgers earned Bad Company a new generation of fans with the help of co-founder and drummer Simon Kirke — who'd originally joined the frontman in the British rock band Free — and two more recent recruits in longtime Heart guitarist Howard Leese and bassist Todd Ronning.

Bad Company's summer 2019 tour includes two concerts with Lynyrd Skynyrd, who were their tourmates for a joint 40th Anniversary Tour in 2013 and The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour in 2018.

Bad Company Background

Of all the rock supergroups of the ‘70s, Bad Company had the most unbeatable pedigree. Formed in 1973, the band combined the powerhouse team of vocalist Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke — both of Free, the rockers behind "All Right Now" — with Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Under the guidance of legendary Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, the new band quickly became one of the biggest acts in rock.

Released in 1973, Bad Company's multiplatinum self-titled debut boasted a blues-based sound that was undeniably heavy yet just as remarkable for the players' agility and the songs' R&B swagger. It inaugurated an incredible run that continued with four more hit albums and such hit singles as "Bad Company," "Feel Like Makin' Love," and "Rock ‘n' Roll Fantasy."

After the original lineup splintered in 1982, Rodgers would find success as the leader of The Paul Rodgers Band and as a creative partner for his friend Jimmy Page in The Firm. The reunion of all four members at Peter Grant's funeral led to new recordings and new tours between 1999 and 2002. In the wake of the singer's hugely successful collaboration with Brian May and Roger Taylor in Queen + Paul Rodgers, Bad Company was relaunched in 2008 and continues to make good on its heavy-duty reputation.

    Rockin' in the rain, Awesome

by RockinGma on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

For a few hours on Wednesday night, we all took an incredible journey, 30 years back in time. In those few moments, age became irrelevant, as we were all in our twenties again, up on our feet, hands clapping over our heads in the air, rocking to the high energy beat of the Doobie Brothers, followed by the wonderfully familiar, pulsating strains of Bad Company. Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers is timeless on vocals and guitar. Backed by the strong guitar playing and vocals of John McFee and Tom Johnston, the gritty bass beats and vocals of Skylark, and the soul gripping sax of Marc Russo, Simmons proved that the Doobie Brothers are back to once again give the people what they love. Bad Company hit the stage and the crowd roared. From the first note Paul Rodgers sang to the final song of the encore, the place was rockin'. Rodgers is in incredible form vocally and physically. He performed every hit song effortlessly, with fantastic tone and range. His voice must have found the Fountain of Youth a long time ago, because he has continued to sound great through the years. Even though he persued other avenues and interests, this fan is very glad that he has resurrected Bad Company, as we knew and loved it. Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke rounded out the trifecta for the evening keeping that familiar beat pounding in our chests all night. As we all sang along to the many favorite hits, what a treat it was for the audience to be a part of this 10 date Tour of 2009. We hope there will be more to come.

I always wanted to see Bad Company in concert before but I never imagined they would be that good. Both the Doobie Brothers and Bad Company were simply awesome and the sound quality was better then any concert I've ever been too. Even the rain couldn't put a damper on this concert!!

by dadivita on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Big fan especially of Doobie Brothers! Fantastic blend of instruments and voices. Bad Co - One name, Paul Rodgers. Gutsy rock at its best. Everytime they perform in my area, I'm there!

The Doobies are better than they've ever been- great musicianship and vocals. Bad Company-still one of the greatest bands ever. The Light show was very good, Paul Rodgers "The Voice" just keep s getting better. Whenever either of these bands comes your way go see them.

    Not too shabby

by bvm1mjs on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Doobies were great and came out for 3 encore songs. Bad Co. seemed like a very short show and missed a few of their hits like "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" and "Wild Fire Woman". Also hoped they might play something from Free like "All Right Now", maybe they couldn't. Paul Rodgers' vocal level was low and had a hard time hearing him sometimes.

Bad Company as good as ever

by Downriver on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Paul Rodgers hasn't lost anything over time. In fact, he may be better than he ever was. The Bad Company concert on July 1 at the DTE Energy Theater was a real treat. The group was tight and the crowd, wet as it was, was really into the music. The Doobie Brothers as the opening act were also very good and a fine complement to the headliners.

bad co. and doobie bros. were fantastic!

by bluesman50 on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Despite the rainy conditions (I was in the pavillion) everybody was in good spirits. The turn out was big and the crowd was lively and the show started on time. It was like reliving the 70's all over again. It was great to see Tom Johnston back with the Doobies. Bad Co. delivered a great performance as usual. The highlight was during "Roll n roll fantasy" that the guitarists from the Doobies came out for a jam session with Bad co. My friend and I really enjoyed the evening.

Paul Rodgers can sing to me anytime!

by Patti on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

My friends and I started out on the lawn for Doobie Brothers which was excellent! The rain didn't put a damper in the nigt at all! They were classic! Then, between bands in some heavy rain, a very nice person came up and gave my friends and I tickets for going down into the pavillion. What a gift! I am a big fan of Bad Company but an even bigger fan of Paul Rodgers! From Free to Bad Company to The Firm with Jimmy Page and don't forget fronting for Queen! They say Paul Rodgers is in the top 100 vocalists of all time and I think he deserves to be right up at the very top of that list! Keep Rockin you guys! We love you!

by ucenglishgirl on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

We were soaked to the bone, hiding beneath tarps held up by umbrellas. Cold and wet, we still agree that it was one of the best concerts EVER!! Both The Doobies and Bad Co. were well worth braving the weather!

    Bad Company was AMAZING!!!

by tinkn4 on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

This was my husbands favorite band of all time so I surprised him with tickets..... We were half tempted not to go due to having lawn seat and the weather was 65 and raining! We decided to go anyways and took two kids.... Thank God we did!! We only went to the Bad Company part of the show due to my husbands work schedule----We have seen Doobies' four other times and they ROCK too!!! Anyways we got to show and the rain stopped! It was as if it knew Bad Companies biggest fan had arrived!!! WE walked to the hill and the show started within minutes of our arrival. We watched my husband, Paul, dance and sing to EVERY SONG! Knew every word to every one---- the rest of us knew 3/4 of the songs and sang with him ---BUT he was Jammin!!! By the time they came out with the finale' singing the Bad Co. song as it's final song the really pretty woman walked up to my husband and handed him a DVD of Bad Co. Live preformance and an envenlope---- he handed it to me and said open it I dont know what she gave me (He was reading back of DVD). I opened the envenlope and inside was a beautiful letter from Paul and Cynthia Rodgers that said that this was a Random Act Of Kindness letter and wanted us to pass along a random act in future....not only was it hand signed it had a crisp new $100.00 Bill inside! Now this sealed the deal with this now being his all time favorite band.....it already was But now DEFINATE!! This is something that my husband will tell every person he ever meets when talking about favorite thibgs that have ever happened....!! Hugely Impressed with kindness of Paul and Cynthia Rodgers.... Wished there was a way to say thank you now that we know what the envenlope had inside! Says this is his Top 5 coolest things that have ever happened to him in his 45 years of life!

Bad Company and the Doobs Make an Excellent Combo

by maguido on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Being only 22 years old and starving for classic rock, the Doobie Brothers and Bad Company fed me 'til my belt split. The DB opened with a stunning performance that the pouring rain couldn't seem to ruin. Equipped with three tarps and ponchos that were originally made to house garbage, we saw the rain as more of a reason to be able to have a great time.

bad company and the doobies what a show!

by jinx on 7/2/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

I thought the Doobies would be on last, but Bad Company sounded like they did when we were in High school. Great concert, except for the rain. But we were in the pavillion )13th row) Great seats.
