    Great night out!

    by J J on 1/26/22The Anthem - Washington

The Anthem is an amazing venue. It was very orderly confirming our vaccination status and getting into the show. We had to lock up our phones, and that, too, was pretty painless. The show was great, and a group of unruly guests were dealt with by security before they ruined the show. It was a fun night, and getting out (and freeing our phones) was incredibly fast.

    Great headliner

by Tina on 1/25/22The Anthem - Washington

Beautiful venue. Opening acts were so-so. There was an intermission before the headliner came on, which was weird- it broke up the rhythm of the night. The headliner was great. Some of the nearby attendees were overly drunk, loud, and not wearing masks the entire time. The staff were trying their best to control them, but they really just should have been kicked out.

    COVID-safe

by SB on 1/25/22The Anthem - Washington

Vaccine proof and masks required for entry. They also require all phones to be placed in a magnetic closure pouch that can only be opened by special opening devices to prevent recording of the performance and phone use during the show

    Super fun night!

by Misty on 1/25/22The Anthem - Washington

Great lineup, few night out with hubs. Funny and a nice change of pace from going to a movie or something. Nothing beats live theater. Loved!

    The internet personified

by Dan on 1/25/22The Anthem - Washington

First the venue, I was not pleased at all with my first visit to The Anthem. There has got to be a better solution to entry than making hundreds/thousands of people stand outside in 10 degree temperatures for 30+ minutes just to verify vaccination status before getting in the second line that is also outside to get into the venue. Then after taking our phones and watches, it gets a lot harder to find your seat in pitch black. As for Aziz, I’ve been a fan for a long time but I felt like 90% of the jokes told in this special are every joke everyone has been making on the internet for the last 2 years. It’s trendy to mock the latest sports stooge, the president, how dumb everyone is about Covid. He makes some great underlying serious points about appealing to humanity, but that’s not what I’m looking for in my comedy shows. His delivery and interaction with the crowds are entertaining, but it’s not his greatest show

    Hilarious

by EZ on 1/25/22The Anthem - Washington

All of the comedians at the show were really funny. The venue was a little tight with the seating but the staff was helpful getting people to their correct rows and everyone wore their masks.

An awesome fun evening at a great venue

by Katerina on 1/24/22The Anthem - Washington

The whole lineup for the show was great - awesome, talented comedians. I've enjoyed the venue, as well, and truly appreciated all COVID safety measures.

    Fun night

by LBSH on 1/24/22The Anthem - Washington

Aziz was great, but I also would like to remember the names of his three warm up comedians. I particularly liked the Haitian but can’t find his name anywhere. Although I’m tired of so many jokes mocking us of the Caucasian persuasion, I understand that we’re 21st century low hanging fruit. The Anthem staff were kind and friendly, but seating was very cramped and the food was mediocre.

    The BEST!

by Dina on 1/24/22The Anthem - Washington

I’ve never seen Aziz before and he is so funny! I never stopped laughing and the venue is amazing. The only thing that would have been better is not having to wear a mask!

    Worst Comedy Show Ever

by Chris Q on 1/24/22The Anthem - Washington

Not sure if it was the Anthem or Aziz Ansari, but this was the worst experience. Despite numerous emails warning us that the show started at 7 and we need to be there early (we were), it actually didn't start until about 730 (hard to tell actual time since my phone was locked up by the venue). The openers were vaguely funny, but the "hype man" was annoying and kept demanding we get up and clap even though the performers had done absolutely nothing to earn it. Then there was a weird 10 minute break before Aziz came out that really wrecked the energy level--and weirdly the bar closed even before Aziz started his set. Aziz was funny, but probably did less than an hour of material (hard to tell without my phone/clock). He ended abruptly, walked off stage, and made clear there would be no encore (I think he knew we wouldn't ask for one). Then the Anthem essentially pushed us out the door. I wanted to check my phone in the lobby to order my Uber since it was 20 degrees out, but they kept insisting we had to leave as soon as we got our phones unlocked. The whole evening was filled with rude staff and performers who just seemed like they didn't even want to be there. Started late, ended early, and just phoned it in. All about making Aziz happy, I guess. But what about the fans? Treating us like trash. Took our money and ran. Never going to see him again. I've been to the Anthem a dozen times, but this was by far the worst. They still can't even figure out the acoustics in that place. Not professional at all.

    Love a little

by Travis on 1/23/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I appreciated the event because everything happened in a timely manner. I missed the first two openers while waiting in line but eventually they got us in there. Aziz and the opener I saw (he has an HBO special) we’re solid. This was my second time to see Aziz and he didn’t disappoint. He’s got a regular now, because I plan to attend his next stand up as well. Thank you to his team and the CHICAGO Theatre venue staff.

    Opening act was best part

by Bn on 1/23/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Aziz gone too woke. Not nearly as funny I had hoped. Some laughs for sure but pace between them was surprisingly slow. Pretty short too. Opening act Ray Velez was outstanding! Possibly more laughs in his 15 min vs aziz 50-60 min. Definitely bigger laughs.

    Funny man, but…

by Tomthevet on 1/23/22The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Beautiful venue, as anyone who has been there knows. Easy to find well labeled seats, even in dim lighting. Azis is super funny, clever….but for some reason I thought his show would be more upbeat. A significant percentage of his act seemed to focus all about COVID, and ridiculing and stereotyping those who are not in agreement with his take on it. I realize that being a comedian in America has been made much more difficult than it should be, with all the vitriol and hate, and politicalizarion of absolutely everything. Can’t offend me, but I was hoping Aziz was able to have fun, without relying on Covid material to fill his show.

    Didn't dissapoint.

by Miss M on 1/11/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The theater was a classic beauty and my first time to enjoy a show there. The entrance line was long yet moved very fast as well as the line to get a drink before the show. Before entering, the phones had to be placed in a locked silencer case that was unexpected. If I were a doctor on call, this would have been very disturbing to have to separate from instant contact, said my boyfriend. We sat in the back on tall bar chairs and were very comfortable with plenty of room for my leggy boyfriend. The comedians were great entertainment and my mixed blood heritage had a great time to hear the view of another sharing experience through humor. Kudos to Aziz and the other comedians. Great show all around!

    Mehhh

by ElGuapo on 1/11/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

People were being seated up to the intermission. Once everyone was seated, the intermission started and everyone left their seats. This made the show difficult to watch with people moving up and down the rows and across the field of view. Show started 20 minutes late. Aziz was on for only 50 minutes or so. Ricky Velez was good. Seats were uncomfortable.

    Funny but bad audio!

by Allie on 1/11/22Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

This was definitely a funny event. Not belly laughing with tears streaming down your face, but topical and nice. The reason I’m giving three starts is that the venue did not handle the audio mixing well at all. Aziz is the type of comedian to yell a lot, which is part of his charm! But it was just sooo loud and piercing coming through the speakers. I got a full on migraine afterwards! Something I had not had in more than a year! Hoping next time Fox Theater hires an audio engineer, because it would have been a simple problem to fix.
