Atlas Genius may or may not be a huge band, but they are certainly big enough that they should be playing in front of a decent size crowd. Originally they were suppose to play at College Street Music Hall in New Haven CT, but do to lack of ticket sales it was moved to the Outer Space in Hamden. The venue is literally a small bar, with a large room and stage in another room. I don't know the exact number of fans, but if I had to guess it was probably no more then 300 people, which made for a very unique memorable experience. It didn't matter it if 300 or 3,000 people AG, put on a great show
the sound system and lights were in perfect rhythm with the music and it had a had a feeling that the music was coming straight from you soul, not only that but the rhythm was flowing and it was next to imposable to not sing along. Which the crowd was doing all night. "Where I belong" was a giant sing along.
I should also mention that this was the night that Prince Rodgers died. They played "Centered on you" which kind of sounds like a Prince song and even changed a few lyrics, and sang Prince. The old saying "The show must go on" and for AG it did.
Kieth is a great showman and because I was right in the front, he gave me his guitar pick. he would also go to the edge of the stage and lean over, fans were talking pictures with phones and he was moving his hand, to get in the way. After the show, he and the other members of the band were hanging out the bar and were talking and taking photos with fans. I even talked a bit about Australian Rules Football with him, he also said to me "I remember you...you were in front having a good time" and I also said thank you for the pick.
Was it the best concert I ever went to? I can't say yes or no, but it was memorable and truly was a special night. I can't wait to see them again.
