Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Live

Since its birth in the late 1930s, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has earned its place as one of the most renowned orchestras in the nation. With over 150 live shows annually, each performance delivers depth and mastery brought forth by the ASO's renowned Maestros and award-winning guest artists. The 2022-2023 season marks the 78th for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and guests can expect a historic and exciting year for classical music in Atlanta. In 2022, the Symphony welcomed its fifth-ever Music Director, Nathalie Stutzmann. Described as "a consummate rock star on the podium" by ArtsATL, Maestro Stutzmann is expected to usher in a new era of musical culture for the ASO and Atlanta as a whole. Stutzmann began her first season featuring 13 living composers, including Hilary Purrington, Tyshawn Sorey and Joel Thompson. In her first season, Stutzmann is also leading eight programs featuring the classical masters, including Beethoven's "Ninth Symphony," Brahms' "Third Symphony" and a two-week Bach celebration culminating in Bach's "St. Matthew Passion." For fans of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's returning and pop culture series, you won't want to miss highlights like the hit program Star Wars and More: The Music of John Williams or performances of Nobuo Uematsu's Final Fantasy soundtrack with a unique HD video multimedia experience.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in Concert

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra was originally founded by Anne Grace O'Callaghan in 1939 as the In-and-About High School Atlanta Symphony. As Supervisor of Music for Atlanta high schools, O'Callaghan started the passion project by recruiting the best high school players across the region. By 1943, Chicago Conductor Henry Sopkin had joined the ranks to lead the young musicians. The talented group's performances quickly drew the interest of patrons and investors, and by 1945 the Atlanta Music Club had offered Sopkin an eight-month contract to develop the Atlanta Youth Symphony. Finally, in 1947, the Youth Symphony dropped the "Youth" moniker and played their first concert as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra -- the start of decades to come as a world-renowned institution of classical music. Since then, ASO has traveled nationwide and internationally, been hosted by U.S. Presidents and won 27 Grammy Awards as of 2022 in Best Classical Album, Best Orchestral Performance, Best Choral Performance, and Best Opera Performance categories.

  • Lawn Orchestra Let Down

by Chris on 9/16/25Ameris Bank Amphitheatre - AlpharettaRating: 3 out of 5

“Free concert if you sit on the lawn!” When I saw that I immediately reserved tickets. I had never been to the Ameris Bank Amphitheater before, so when I was prompted to purchase parking I ignored it. Later I found out paid parking was required. So I purchased it for $20 — still not bad for a free concert. The day of the event the parking line was long and we waited about 20 minutes before we could park. Still, when we got inside there was plenty of room to set up our blanket. Soon after, others began setting up around us. The concert started about 15 minutes late. Unfortunately, the people behind us decided to talk through basically the whole concert. Is it a lawn concert? Yes. Is it okay to talk through an entire classical music concert? No. I got the impression that many people were sitting on the lawn for the experience, not because they couldn’t afford actual seats. I believe this made the lawn crowd less respectful and ultimately made our experience less enjoyable. We left early because we were so frustrated. But, the orchestra did well, and leaving was a breeze.

  • Nice music

    by Luv2gardenGirl on 9/16/25Ameris Bank Amphitheatre - AlpharettaRating: 4 out of 5

I’m not sure how many stars to give. The musicians were fantastic, but the show itself needs more attention to details. Everyone of us in the nearest orchestra section (paid seats) were staring at the front stage wall with limited views, and we were too far forward to see full view on the overhead screens. I would have preferred the free seats for better visibility. No programs were provided which is okay if you have a QR code to access before the show. We were scrambling to find the program online because for some reason, the conductor did not introduce each piece.

  • I was blown away

by RWD on 6/24/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I'm glad I lived long enough (84) to attend this joint concert of the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus (AGMC) and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) performing the best tunes of Walt Disney. They should do something like this every year (I know that would take a lot of rehearsal time). I've been a Disney fan all of my life, and to hear so many of the tunes performed so well was a delightful treat. Bravo!

  • An amazing evening!!

by Andy B on 6/24/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The collaboration between The Atlanta Gay Mens Chorus and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for Disney Pride produced one of the most magical and emotional events I have ever attended. We can only hope that more collaborations are in the future.

  • Exhilarating experience at the Disney Pride in Concert

by Happiness on 6/24/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

My son has been a member of the Atlanta Gay Men"s Chorus for many years and I had not had a chance to see him in person. My daughter, granddaughter and I flew down from New York just to attend the concert. The chorus sang beautifully with the harmonizing out of this world. The soloists were funny, whimsical and some were very inspirational. It was heart warming to see the members of the chorus enjoy their own music as they swayed their bodies to the beat...some more than others. The choreography to some of the songs was so appropriate with the most impressive one being when they used the fans...so cool. The songs were paired with the appropriate movie being projected on an overhead screen making the experience more meaningful since we didn't have to rack our brains trying to remember which song went with which movie...yaay. The addition of the orchestra was the icing on the cake. What a wonderful evening!

  • Exceptional evening

An evening with the voices of the Gay Men’s Chorus paired with the exceptional talented ASO individuals made for a very special evening.

  • Fabulous

by PJKATL on 6/24/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the Disney Pride concert! The AGMC was great with the symphony. Only thing that I didn’t like is the music was so beautiful the audience would ruin the closing of the numbers by cheering before the pieces finish the last notes. I guess you can’t help that much, until you announce to hold applause until the last note of the piece. Oh well.

  • Fabulous!

The AGMC Pride concert on 6/21/25 was SPECTACULAR: wonderful singing, fabulous symphony, beautiful heartfelt personal statements, amazing Disney montage, and a groundswell of positive feeling and PRIDE that blew the lid off!

  • A remarcable pianist, with encore

by Charles Ives on 5/18/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Hard to assess conductor: her choice of Weinberg’s Rhapsody on Moldovan Themes was pops concert material. No need to give a nod to the Stalin era. After intermission, Tschaikovsky’s First Symphony was played with the exuberance necessary to keep this early piece interesting. Not a great piece. Before intermission: Bartok’s 3rd piano concerto, a work demanding quick reflexes from all concerned. Its demands were met, especially by the rapid light playing of soloist Marc-Andre Hamelin. Mr. Hamelin played Rachmaninov’s Etude Tableau in E-flat minor, op. 39, No. 5 as an encore after the concerto. Here Mr. Hamelin produced a beautifully layered rendition that mesmerized us with its power and projection of the different appearances of melodies in various registers of the powerful Steinway.

  • Wonderful musicianship

by Tommy M on 5/4/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome performance by the ASO of Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. The soloist playing the Paganini violin concerto was amazing! Good acoustics in the hall as well.

  • Outstanding Performances

by Dina Deon on 4/30/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

My 5 year old son & I had an amazing time! The characters coming out really helps keep the little ones engaged. I play classical music while we sleep so coming out talking to the children and giving them a chance to jump up and respond to questions held my son stay awake without being so restless. This is a great way to ease children in as the performance was only 45 minutes. I’m not big on opera so I was very nervous when the chorus members came out but it went over just fine. We loved the dancers!! Also the tv screens do you can see a variety of different views. I definitely recommend and we will be back for the b 25-26 season.

  • Spectacular!

by Debbie on 3/30/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully moving! Scheherazade and Scriabin’s piano concerto were the highlights of the evening.

  • Muddy Strings

by Sax since 1971 on 3/26/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

The Copeland was not very expressive and the tempos were not what was written, The strings were muddy. The harp piece was better left to the local school system where the composer works her day job? The Williams was brilliant - strings were not muddy but light and expressive. I came for the Copeland (having heard it many times over the years - it is always my sentimental favorite) but the Williams was worth the trip! I would not waste my time with the ASO again though. Maybe there are too many concerts jn a season now and not enough preparation time? Don't know but some community orchestras are mush more impressive.

  • Delightful

From entering the building through the after-concert ginger ale at the bar, we had a delightful experience!

  • Great entertainment

by Paul and Ses on 3/18/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

My wife had never seen Pirates of the Caribbean, I’m not sure if I had either. We both thoroughly enjoyed the film, but the highlight was listening to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. We couldn’t really believe what a great experience it was as we’ve never been at one of these screening before. We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. I would recommend this to anyone.

  • Loved it

by KD on 3/18/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I attended the Pirates of the Caribbean Live. It was such a great experience. They had a guy dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow in the lobby. There refreshments to purchase before and during the intermission. Started in a timely manner. But of course the Orchestra was amazing. You can hear every detail of the composed music. It really was beautiful. Please do Dead Man’s Chest and At Worlds End!!!
