About

“Mr Sandoval's Playing is Spectacular”  New York Times

“ He's one of the Best “  Dizzy Gillespie

6 Time Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter ARTURO SANDOVAL, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, is touring Australia in June 2013. Cuban-born Sandoval has evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.

A subject of a movie based on his life, “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia, Sandoval’s virtuoso technical ability or his specialty in high notes gives us the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of his music, through his compositions from the most straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz or classical. He is recognised as one of the most brilliant, multifaceted and renowned musicians of our time.

Arturo Sandoval’s versatility can be heard on recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Bill Conti and Stan Getz to John Williams and the Boston Pops, and in the Super Bowl with Tony Bennet and Patti LaBelle plus Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys amongst many others. Arturo Sandoval is truly a prominent and legendary musician.

A night to remember with a 10x Grammy winner. Hearing Sandoval lives makes his recording beat jump with vitality. The range of song selections was artistry.

Mr Sandoval arrived with 8 piece band. Played trumpet, percussion, and piano magnificently. Truly an entertaining evening.

  • One of the best at the Birchmere

by Great Show on 10/1/25Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Arturo Dandaval is a mult talented perfomer. While well know for his trumpet playing he also was good on the drums, the keyboards, and great at "skat". Singing is OK. Great overall performance. Can't wait for his return to the Birchmere.

  • Arturo Sandoval is a masterful musician

by KevinZ on 11/12/24Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthRating: 4 out of 5

Saw Arturo at Jimmy’s in Portsmouth, NH. Arturo is obviously a top-notch trumpeter, but also played timbales, keyboard, and even sang Nat King Cole’s “Smile”. His ability to take the grassiness out of a trumpet was amazing, and played all the way from above the staff down to pedal tones rapidly, beautifully, and well in tune. Amazing virtuosity. As he explained, he is getting older (it was his 75th birthday), so he plays a little less trumpet, but certainly adds to the ensemble no matter what instrument he is expressing himself through. If you haven’t ever seen him, you need to!

  • Exellent Amazing Concert Performance!!

by Jim on 10/15/24Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

The Arturo Sandoval concert performance was nothing less than spectacular!! A fantastic jazz trumpet player, ties with Dizzy Gillespie for number one of the best of the best. I appreciate the venue, The Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, for hosting the concert. The venue has a very nice restaurant that is on the same building and goes by the same name. The sound acoustics are very good. However, the concert venue has some flaws. Because their restaurant kitchen is adjacent to the concert hall, a very large section of the kitchen's walls divide the concert hall into two separate sections. We had front row center seats, however, because of the kitchen setup, our seats were located in the front row and center stage, but a bit further back from the stage than other front row seats to the side in our section. (Not exactly bad, but not what we expected.) Much more unexpected for our front row seats, there is an aisle right in front of the front row. Therefore, people half of the people in our section who had to go to the restroom or wanted to go upstairs to get drinks, they had to walk right in front of the people in the front row while the concert is going on. It was a bit annoying. You wouldn't expect that when you buy front row seats. Also, the venue has no parking lot. Street parking was very hard to find. We did come upon a paid parking lot a few blocks away and a block down. The overall experience was excellent due to Arturo Sandoval being one of my very favorite musical artists.

If you've never had the opportunity to go see Arturo Sandoval in concert you really should! He is a consummate professional who puts on a great show. His skills as a composer, trumpet, and flugelhorn player are amazing. He and his band put on an outstanding show at the Ludlow Garage. I can't wait to see him again soon!

Fabulous performance and great venue. If you ever have a chance to see Arturo it is well worth your time! He is a living legend and very likely the best trumpet player we have in this world. I knew Arturo from my college days when he would do master classes with the Capital University Conservatory of Music and he has only gotten better!! His band is also full of top teir performers as you would expect.
