“Mr Sandoval's Playing is Spectacular”  New York Times

“ He's one of the Best “  Dizzy Gillespie

6 Time Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter ARTURO SANDOVAL, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, is touring Australia in June 2013. Cuban-born Sandoval has evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.

A subject of a movie based on his life, “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia, Sandoval’s virtuoso technical ability or his specialty in high notes gives us the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of his music, through his compositions from the most straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz or classical. He is recognised as one of the most brilliant, multifaceted and renowned musicians of our time.

Arturo Sandoval’s versatility can be heard on recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Bill Conti and Stan Getz to John Williams and the Boston Pops, and in the Super Bowl with Tony Bennet and Patti LaBelle plus Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys amongst many others. Arturo Sandoval is truly a prominent and legendary musician.

  • Not what I had hoped for.

    by Sleepy Jo on 1/15/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 2 out of 5

Arturo’s endurance was really low. He really only played a few songs and told a bunch of jokes for filler, and sang way too much— especially scat, bee do bop bada isn’t what I payed to listen to. Even only playing a few songs, his lips were shot and his tone was bad by the end of the relatively short performance.

Arturo and his band gave us an unforgettable experience. He can play anything and then he has a sextet that sets the stage on fire. 2 hours of non stop great music. We were all captivated.

  • Fabulous experience

    by Cactus Flower on 1/15/24Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a wonderful and memorable concert. Arturo is a consummate musician but also a kind person. The repertoire was varied and provided opportunities for the talented band to shine. Great to see an older performer who still has his edge. We were pleased that we purchased tickets in the front orchestra section. We've been in the back orchestra for other shows at the Rialto and felt as though we were sliding forward. Spending the $ to get better seats paid off.

  • My Man!

    by L.C. on 8/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

One of the best performances I've seen in years! Even at this stage in his career, his, tone, charisma and chops are still top notch! See a living legend while you can- you won't regret it! His banter between some selections were heartwarming and sometimes just outright hilarious!

  • Amazing Artist

by Janos on 5/9/23American Theatre - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

I am a lifelong jazz fan, so I knew of Arturo, but this showed me I did not know enough about his versality as a musician and as a performer. Frankly, he is amazing at his age, or any age.

  • Virtuoso

by nomoore on 4/23/23Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

BergenPAC is a great venue. But Arturo and his band wer amazing, disappointed (as was he) that the house wasn't full but he got us going ! High energy with extremely talented and extended soloing from his band. Superior percussion, excellent fast duel riffing between trumpet and sax. Overall a very very entertaining show. Brought my young adults kids to remind them how great it is to see actual musicians at the top of their game. Sandoval himself is a funny, appreciative, motivating stage presence and did a great job with with this great band.

  • Arturo is both a brilliant musician and fantastic entertaine

by Fuji on 5/15/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthRating: 5 out of 5

Arturo is one of the greatest trumpet players of our time. He was also quite the entertainer: He spoke of his frustration with the English language , his association with Dizzy Gillespie and mixed it up with a funk medley. He sang, played piano, synthesizer and percussion. If you are a jazz lover but also want to be entertained - Arturo Sandoval is a must see.

  • Another Fantastic Performance!

Arturo and his fellow musicians were fantastic. The level of musicianship is superb, not only from Mr. Sandoval, but everyone he brings to the stage. We have seen Arturo several times and he always delights. We would highly recommend seeing him whenever you have a chance.

  • Arturo lights up the Ludlow Garage

by Jazzer on 5/20/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

Arturo Sandoval and his impressive combo played an energetic set of music for 1.5 hours at the Ludlow Garage on Friday, May 17, 2019. From hot jams to sweet ballads, the music always was well executed, easy to enjoy because of an exceptionally good mix, and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves. The audience was highly engaged and appreciative of the musical artistry exhibited, so everyone seemed to have a very good time! The venue is peculiar, shaped like a giant upside down ‘L’, so most had a straight on view of the stage, but those on the bottom of the ‘L’ had only a side view of the band, and we couldn’t see the drummer or bass player at all. The venue features jumbo chairs like you’d find in a modern movie house. The chairs were hot, as was the temperature in this underground room, which was the only negative of the event beyond a limited view from our seats. It wasn’t hot enough to be unbearable, but Arturo and the band were noticeably uncomfortable from the heat. If the room had an open area, I presume serious dancing would have broken out, beyond a couple celebrating their anniversary that got up on one number. All were moving to the music! The venue is going to close for a few weeks for some renovation. I look forward to seeing what they do. I would certainly go back for this artist and do so at this venue again. I now know not to sit on the far left side of the room to have better vision of the stage.

  • For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story

by The Review on 5/20/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

All I knew about Arturo Sandoval was this movie with Andy Garcia. Having served in the Army during The Cold War, I found this story intriguing and could sympathize with it. Having the opportunity to see the Legend himself was even more exciting and He did not disappoint. Mr. Sandoval was more than the trumpeter I thought he was that evening. He was a keyboardist, a percussionist, a singer, as well as a comedian, and entertainer. It truly was a night to remember. I had a third row middle aisle seat on the right side of the club. I thought it was great. A bit loud, but my ears enjoyed the entire show. This was my first trip to Ludlow Garage and they will be closing soon for a complete remodel. I'm glad I chose the right side because Arturo and the band focused/faced this side mostly. Even Arturo mentioned, "I'm confused, I don't know whether to face this way or that way...." then laughed as did the audience. The Passion in the band, in the music, in Arturo was surreal. Every movement, every gesture, every note felt as if you were meant to be a part of this journey. It was a mesmerizing event that many should enjoy. Take the time to see this Legendary Artist, This Man, Living History, Arturo Sandoval.

  • Arturo Sandoval

by MJ on 5/20/19Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

The music by Mr Sandoval and his musicians was amazing. It was exciting to see WORLD CLASS PERFORMERS here in Cincinnati. However, the venue temperature for the musicians and patrons was too warm. Perhaps they would’ve done an encore if it were more comfortable. Hopefully, the updating and remodel of the venue will include the HVAC system OR turn it on earlier so it can really cool the place. It was also VERY disappointing and embarrassing that THE PIANO WAS OUT OF TUNE! This is basic. If the piano isn’t tuned for the musicians it shows disrespect. It’s all about the music. I’m very excited to have a nice setting to see top notch performers and I was afraid that the Ludlow Garage will get a bad reputation. I certainly hope you can fix these things. You have a good thing going. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Drinks are really tasty and worth the price.

  • The show was very entertaining and enjoyable

  • Arturo is always awesome!

by FlugelChick on 9/3/18Access Showroom at Aliante Casino & Hotel - North Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen Arturo Sandoval live three times, and each one was fantastic. Each one was unique; always different tunes and styles. If you love jazz, you will enjoy hearing him perform. He is also a great educator. The afternoon of his performance, he gave a free masterclass to students in the area. I rated the venue 4 stars because the seating was a little uncomfortable, but Arturo's performance is definitely 5 star!
