    Amazing!

by Michael on 3/22/24Paramount Theatre - Seattle

We throughly enjoyed the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performance. It was truly a soul lifting experience. The dancers are incredibly talented. And the was choreography was brillaint. My wife has seen them more than a dozen times. But the Seattle performance was my first. We will not miss any future opportunites to see them again.

    Amazing Performance!

by Neen on 3/20/24Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Such imaginative choreography, dancer physicality, artistry and stamina! We were in awe at the way their dancing transported us with its grace and took the art form to such a high level of expression. Wow!

    I would say a B+ not a A

by vickie on 3/19/24Paramount Theatre - Seattle

I am 75. I have always attended AA events. This year it was noticeable that the musical production was on a very tight budget. No elaborate stage settings...No programs...No fantastic lighting....seriously it was obvious that money was an issue. Therefore this will be my last time attending. However the dancers were excellent. I will give them a A+

    Disappointed sums it up.

    by First-timer on 3/18/24Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Disappointment #1 This was my first attendance to a live professional modern dance performance. I had looked forward to this Alvin Ailey performance for years. So I settled in my seat, on the middle aisle, midway on the main floor, only to have my view of the stage obstructed by the man sitting in front me. Now, I 6' 1"and it is rare that my view is obstructed in a theater. Disappointment #2 So the lights dim the show starts and I am getting the fantastic performance I was expecting when the act ended after about 20 minutes. Then there was a 20 minute intermission, and half the auditorium seemed to getup and walk out. I have no idea why an intermission was needed then. The audience had just sat down 25 to 30 minutes earlier! I felt like we were just getting into the "vibe"of the experience when we were showdown to restart 20 minutes later. Disappointment #3 Ode. Described as "Jamar Roberts offers a meditation on the beauty and fragility of life in a time of growing gun violence."While I enjoyed the beautiful and moving performance immensely. I saw no relationship to gun violence whatsoever which may have been Roberts intentions along, but I saw it as a lost opportunity to make a meaningful statement on a very important issue. If no mention of gun violence was made in describing the motivation for this choreographic work I would have satisfied. Revolution was fantastic and a fitting way to end the performance as it is meant to be. I left the theater looking forward to seeing a different performance of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater as it seems they very at different locations and days.

Alvin Ailey is always stunning, however...

by Shawn on 5/17/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

So, i decided to splurge on the Mother's Day weekend tickets for my daughter and I. It was her 1st time seeing AA. Me, thinking we had the best seats in the house, since i spent extra to sit strategically closer in the box seats. Well, to my surprise, there was a speaker that blocked most of our view of the performance. Very disappointed that these seats were even an option and at a higher rate than some. Needless to say, i wasn't feeling well enough to even go and make a mention. I went home. Next time, these seats should not be an option for sale if these speakers are a constant fixture in the NJPAC theater.
