About
Pennsylvanian rockers Dr. Dog represent a blast from the past. Their music has often been compared to acts from long ago, including The Beatles and The Beach Boys, to name a couple. The retro sound of Dr. Dog has resulted in several memorable records in their nearly 15 years of existence, yet like any great band, sometimes their recorded material pales in comparison to their live act. Tickets to see Dr. Dog sell fast since the indie group usually prefers to tour the small club circuit. They have also played major festivals, like Coachella and Treasure Island, too. Dr. Dog skips the theatrics and simply sticks to good music playing live. They're a band that is highly skilled, and they even cut a live album at Google's headquarters in California. They have always jammed with famous psychedelic bands, like My Morning Jacket, in concert. Always a group to present new material, the band released their seventh studio album, called "B-Room," in 2013. The record features "The Truth" and "Broken Heart" and was the first album composed at their new studio in Philadelphia.
Dr. Dog was formed by childhood friends, Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, as the duo preferred to experiment with lo-fi recordings, including original psychedelic material recorded on eight tracks and other vintage devices. Their first album, "The Psychedelic Swamp," was self-recorded and released in 2001. Dr. Dog became popular along the Philadelphia circuit, yet gained little notoriety outside of it. However, the group continued to write and compose the way they wanted to. This would later lead to a large cult following drawn to their complete DIY approach and indie-mentality, thanks to their tireless promotion on the Internet. "We All Belong," "Fate" and "Shame, Shame" are all classic Dr. Dog studio releases, though the band has also released its fair share of EPs and vinyl.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Dr Dog live changed my whole life
by ashpee on 4/1/16Newport Music Hall - ColumbusIve loved this band for a couple years now, but to see them live for the first time was such a cool experience. The raspy voices. They were so convincing, they meant every lyric. Their sound, oh my god. Dr dog playing live was raw, soulful, mesmerizing, beautiful-- hypnotizing, really. When they broke down the song Lonesome, I melted. There's just something about live music. Dr dog knows how to do live music.

by anyao on 3/20/16STAGE AE - PittsburghThe venue, Stage AE, was small but very open and inviting! The openers, The Districts, were amazing and really set a good groove for the rest of the night. Dr. Dog rocked and had the whole crowd singing and dancing. Loved the concert!

Rating: 5 out of 5 Dr. Dog was phenomenal ! You MUST GO!
by Alex4Reel on 3/19/16STAGE AE - PittsburghThey played a long show and you can tell they really love doing it. They had an awesome visual setup without it being too blinding! They sound just as good live if not better! Very crisp very high-energy. I'm even comparing their showmanship to the legendary bands. I've been lucky enough to see some big names like Jeff Beck, Rush, BB King, Bob Dylan, Van Halen, Roger Waters (performing The Wall) etc. and these guys are right up there with them--at least as far as a great, high energy show! If you get a chance, see them! Or at least look up their albums! I almost always and exclusively listen to stuff that's normally at least 30-40+ years old. If you like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. you will love these guys! Give them a chance!

by Anonymous on 3/19/16STAGE AE - PittsburghReally great show! A band like this has so much music you'd want to hear though, and seeing as they played a 25 song set a few nights later in phili, I'm a little bummed we only got to see about half that. Didn't play shadow people, heart it races, or these days which are obviously some favorites but it was still a really good time. Hope the next time I see them they play more stuff.

by TheOso on 2/22/16The Wiltern - Los AngelesI have listened to Dr. Dog for many years. I love their records but had never seen them in concert (except for some videos) prior to this event. My wife and I were blown away. Great musicianship, communal feeling, strong harmonies and beautiful songs. The excellent lights and sound put it over. Hop Along was a good opener. Interesting lead vocals and strong band. We love the Wiltern as a concert venue. Big win of a night.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Dr. Dog was interesting all the way through
by Jordan98 on 2/2/16Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandIt was just overall a very good show, very energetic, good audio, the drums didn't overpower vocals, which is something i've seen happen at other shows. They are good live performers. Although, a bit more audience interaction would have been appreciated.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Very talented band!
by Newnomenon on 4/16/15The Pageant - St LouisI'd been wanting to see Dr. Dog for a few years now and I'm so happy that I finally did! They are such a great band and the Pageant is a cool venue to see shows at. If you get an opportunity to see Dr. Dog, don't pass it up!

by bongobeat on 4/14/15The Pageant - St Louisi went to see mewithout you, the warm up band, but decided to stay, and see what dr dog was going to play. I had listened to their live album, ' live at the flamingo hotel', which was also the name of this tour, and thought it rather middle of the road. I did find 9 rockers among their 7 albums\ep's, that were pretty cool, but only 2 0f those songs were on the, ' live album'. mewithoutyou was so amazing, that I decided to stay. they really did warm me up. i'm glad I did. dr dog played all the rockers I liked and kept everyone dancing and digging the music. the show was fun for everyone. the band was tight and the fun was light. good vibes and good music kept the pageant hopping and happy. i'll see them again.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Dr. Dog blew us away
by Krunkasaurus05 on 4/6/15House of Blues Houston - HoustonAs we walked through the double doors of the House of Blues, we were immediately greeted with the unforgettable lights of the venue's rustic stage and stain glass-like religious appeal. The stage was instantly recognizable and the lights grew dim as the hamsa and yin-yang hovered above it. My girlfriend and I had just driven two hours to be here and we finally made it. We were home. The thick, bold sounds of MewithoutYou easily drowned out any feeling of weariness shared. The ferocious and almost robotic looking movements of the band's drummer was overwhelming. This was tipped off properly by the mesmerizing lead singer who would move from his microphone stand immediately to the floor as if he had a bad stomach ache. They played song after song, talking very little in between, and tore through the set as if it was their last day on earth. Having never heard of the band until that very day, I now knew that I had become a fan. But I was not there to see them — to be honest. My girlfriend and I were there to see Dr. Dog. Yes, those hip, scruffy, trippy boys from West Grove. With each song, my excitement grew. As the members switched guitars and instruments between (what seemed like) every song, I never knew what to expect. The audience on the floor were in high spirits (figuratively and literally), but we were all musically transcendent for two hours as Dr. Dog manned the helm. What a night it was.
