ART GARFUNKEL IN CONCERT:

Art Garfunkel, Grammy-winning songwriter and one-half of the inimitable folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, is fully recovered from a vocal cord injury sustained in 2010 and back on tour. Fans at the singer's 2013 shows were blissfully aware there had even been an issue, as the singer passionately wove his voice through beloved classics like "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Amid rumors of a new solo album and possible future tour with Paul Simon, Garfunkel will take the stage with more energy and excitement than ever in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Queens, NY, Garfunkel began singing in the first grade, perfecting his technique with a wire recorder given to him by his father. After meeting Paul Simon in 6th grade, the two began  performing together as Tom & Jerry, honing the close vocal harmonies that would mark their later material.  Following a degree in art history from Columbia, Garfunkel once again joined forces with Simon for the duo's 1964 debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. The album contained "The Sound of Silence," a sleeper hit that ultimately reached No. 1, foreshadowing the success the duo would achieve with chart-topping albums like 1968's Bookends and 1970's Bridge Over Troubled Water. In the ensuing decades, Garfunkel has continued to record and tour — both solo and with Simon — contributing to one of folk music's most venerable legacies.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Art Garfunkel. That's all I have to say. He has one of the most beautiful and touching voices I have ever heard. After 72 years of life, he's still got it."

" Art Garfunkel was wonderful. It was like he was sitting in my living room. He sounded wonderful and was so open with his thoughts, feelings and his view of life! Don't miss this show!"

"This is the best show I've seen in years. His voice was top-notch, and you can tell he is really on the mend. In fact, you really couldn't tell there had been any issues with his vocal cords."

Excellent Show, Poor Communication of Starting Time!

by Me on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

The show was superb. Great performance. But, before the show began, we were extremely unhappy, to say the least. Our tickets indicated the show started at 7 pm. Our party either skipped dinner or rushed through it to get to the theater by 630. The doors opened before 7 and we entered the theTer, we noticed all the moth seats. At 7;pm, the advertised start time, less than 10% of the seats were filled. Why, we asked....we were told, “don’t yiu know, the show doesn’t start until after 8”. We showed staff our tickets with the 7 pm start time. They said, it was wrong. This mis communication of incorrect information is infuriating. As a responsible adult, just tell me the actual start time. Never, never domtis again,

    Art Garfunkel & son

    by T. K. on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

I went to see Art Garfunkel not Art & his son. I can understand him being proud of his son being a performer but bring him on as a opening act (but advertise it that way too!) Arthur Jr was introduced and sang a nice duet with his dad of an Everly Bros song & then sang a song by himself. This would have been fine but he came out three other times (one as another duet) - this is not who I came to see.

    Disappointed

by Jbird on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Started late. Took a 20 minute break after 35 minutes on stage. Brought out his son to sing solo while he wandered back stage several times. Read musings from his book and sang relatively few songs. Very disappointed.

    Intimate and happy

by Gramme Deb on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Artie Garfunkel was amazing - so warm, funny & genuine- loved the fix of old favorites, stories and poems. His son - what an angelic voice - great duets. He’s still got it - thank you for sharing it with us

    Garfunkel and Son

by Nurse Sue on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Art made the concert so personal. The audience was so drawn in with his poetry. The love of family and introduction of his son who has a voice that imprints on the soul. His tribute to long term friend Paul Simon and their human competition to even death struck a chord in everyone’s heart. The sound of his musical gift graced the audience into years of their own memories. The venue was perfect and intimate. This was an amazing concert!

    Disappointing

    by Concert Gal on 1/12/20

The ticket stated a concert start time of 7 p.m. but when we got to the venue, we were told that the actual start time was 8 p.m. I don’t know if it was the venue or the performer’s fault, but there’s no excuse to not have the correct start time on the ticket. We saw Art last year at the Balboa Theater in San Diego (really enjoyed that show) but this show was disappointing in comparison. 45 minutes into the show (where Art read some of his writings and sang around 4-5 songs), they take a 25 minute intermission. Huh? It seemed there was about 1/2 the show talking/reading and 1/2 singing—with his son also doing several songs (great voice) and they sang two duets together that were outstanding (would have liked to hear more duets!). I understand that Art is 78 years old, his voice isn’t quite the same (he still has beautiful pitch) and he didn’t sing Bridge Over Troubled Water (sorry, but that is a ‘must sing’ song), but for the price of the ticket, I would have expected a longer show and more singing from Art. If that is a problem, then maybe it’s time to reconsider touring or rebrand the show as ‘An Evening with Art Garfunkel’ that features his writings and a few songs. Of course he got a standing ovation at the end because after all, he is 1/2 of the legendary duo Simon and Garfunkel.

    Mandatory Retirement Age

by Uncle on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

I love his music, but Art Garfunkel needs to retire. "Shoulda been gone long ago..." The show was boring and had no flow. And his son did NOT inherit his talent

Time to call it a day

by Iraanism on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Mr. Garfunkel, now 78, seems to be taking advantage of his past fame by touring now to showcase & introduce his son, who has a beautiful voice, but is not the reason why audience members pay good money & devote time from their lives to attend a show. I felt defrauded & scammed, atleast Paul has bowed out gracefully. The show consisted of two 35-40 minte sets with a 25 minute intermission. The sets consisted of Mr. Garfunkel straining his hoarse voice to sing some beautiful songs from his (& Paul's) vast repertoire. The songs were altered to allow for his new register. He read excerpts/poems from his book, sang Everly Brothers duets with his son & his son sang solos, all accompanied by two very talented musicians. Mind you, the sets were 35-40 minutes long, this didn't allow for too many solo songs from the featured artist. The final insult was no attempt to sing his iconic hit, Bridge Over Troubled Waters. He could've altered the song style to fit his present voice, had his son sing along as a duet, or just sing it poorly. Any attempt would've been preferable to no attempt. I left dejected & am pleased to share the truth as i saw it. Hang it up Art if you can't bring it, we, your adoring audience, deserve better.

    Art Garfunkel

by TNT on 12/6/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Art put on a great show. He sang, told stories and engaged the audience. You can tell, even at 78years old, he still loves a live audience. He really seems to have fun being on stage. It was a great show.

Good to relive the past and some of the best music.

by jp on 11/25/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Enjoyable show although probably not worth the cost of the tickets. He is 78 afterall and the one cannot sound the same but good memories of the music. Lots of poetry reading and plugs for his book. What I don't like about the paramount and most concerts is the always late start. I don't understand why a show cannot start on time or reasonably close. It was well after the 8:00 start time and the intermission was much longer than stated. I think the people who attend shows for these older performers are punctual and in there seats ready for the show at the advertised time. Not sure who has control over this if anyone.

    Art Garfunkel

by GJ on 11/22/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

The balcony was closed, so we had to go to the ticket window and get reassigned seats, which were better than the balcony ones. Art was so awesome. His voice isn't quite what it used to be, but still so beautiful. I wish he would've talked less about his book and sang more. I'd like to see the ladies bathroom upstairs rennovated. So small and inconvenient. Also, the rows are too close together. It's very difficult for people to pass by to get to their seats. The Paramount is so beautiful, though, so don't remodel the interior, just the seats.

    Disappointing

by HowardE on 11/22/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Mr. Garfunkel started late without an explanation or apology to the audience. He spent more time reading his poems and reminiscing than singing. When he did sing, he no longer had the power or range in his voice. It was very disappointing. Our entire group left at the intermission.

    Artie

by Curney on 11/22/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

He read way too much of his poetry. Wanted to hear more of his songs. Less talking about Paul Simon. Read more than he sang.. Paid top dollar for a good seat. Way too crowded in seating for the money. Lack of buyers gave upgrades to many. Need to work on a better seating chart for buyers. Way too uncomfortable while the row in back of my seat had several open seats Just ok.

    Good

by Me on 11/22/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Facility - Is sad and in need a a major uplift. Worse thing is that the front row seats (12 or so rows) are taller than the seats behind them, resulting in blockage of the artist to those in those later seats. A real disappointment. Artist - Enjoyable, voice is gone but he tried. However, he talked too much and only performed 2, 1/2 hour sets. Spent more time sitting around waiting, than listening to him.

    A legendary singer

by Humpty on 11/22/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

I was impressed that Art Garfunkel after all these years can still carry a tune. His performance was enlighten with several poetry readings, but it added to his performance well.

Explore Brown County Music Center For Sure!

by Anvandy on 9/15/19Brown County Music Center - Nashville

There is not a bad seat in the place! They are currently working out the kinks in getting people in and parked but that will get better with time. Art Garfunkel was entertaining as he was wise with his written words he read to the audience. If you have the chance to see him, GO! You won't regret it!

    Art Garfunkel Concert

by Red on 9/15/19Brown County Music Center - Nashville

Brown County Music Center is the best venue ever attended. Wider seats and isles. They just need to get control of the thermostat. It was like having a turbo jet blowing cold air on you for 2 hours. I now have a chest and head cold from it and I am not enjoying the sleepless nights because I can’t breathe. I hope it will be better when I come back for the Homefree concert on October 5th.

    I'd do it again.

by Georgie B on 9/15/19Brown County Music Center - Nashville

First time attending Brown County Music Center. Very spacious theatre, lobby and parking lot. Parking was well coordinated. Doors to entrance was bit confusing. Opened 90 minutes prior to show and admission to theatre was scheduled 6:30 but was 30 minutes late with no explanation. Lots of people stuck standing with no where to sit and lack of use of space. Employees were friendly and the crowd was patient. Concessions included alcohol and drinks. Facility only one month old so hope will develop concessions and gift shop. At office area, not well manned and seemed to be working entrance. I observed no central organization or manager. The theatre is lovely. Crowd again very friendly. Art Garfunkel not sold out so extra room was pleasant for attendees. I sat left center floor toward back. Would have been nice if had big screen as couldn't personally see Garfunkel well. Great and nicely paced performance. Sound system good. Bummer couldn't take pictures. Didn't sell CD or shirts. Nice free brochure of shows. Hope put up identifiable sign at entrance on 46. Definitely will go to theare again. Have some great performers lined up. Lots of potential. When cold, winter or rain would not look forward to having to stand outside too long.

    Superb

by Dulcimerlady on 9/15/19Brown County Music Center - Nashville

BCMC is a good venue - spacious, & they allow drinks & food inside. One negative is that the rows of seats are very long, so if you're in the middle you might have to step over a dozen people to get to the aisle. On the positive, the sound was very good from my seat near the front but on the side. Garfunkel was great! He not only sang songs, but he also shared prose poems from his autobiography. He had only two backup musicians - a guitarist & a keyboard player - which made for an intimate atmosphere. At 78, his voice is not what it was 40 years ago, but whose is? It's still his voice, & he used it well, adding more dimension to many of the older songs. With a healthy amount of humility, he shared stories of his life & acknowledged that his voice is a gift that he needed to share. Overall, it was an evening that I'll cherish for a long time.
