ART GARFUNKEL IN CONCERT:

Art Garfunkel, Grammy-winning songwriter and one-half of the inimitable folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, is fully recovered from a vocal cord injury sustained in 2010 and back on tour. Fans at the singer's 2013 shows were blissfully aware there had even been an issue, as the singer passionately wove his voice through beloved classics like "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Amid rumors of a new solo album and possible future tour with Paul Simon, Garfunkel will take the stage with more energy and excitement than ever in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Queens, NY, Garfunkel began singing in the first grade, perfecting his technique with a wire recorder given to him by his father. After meeting Paul Simon in 6th grade, the two began  performing together as Tom & Jerry, honing the close vocal harmonies that would mark their later material.  Following a degree in art history from Columbia, Garfunkel once again joined forces with Simon for the duo's 1964 debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. The album contained "The Sound of Silence," a sleeper hit that ultimately reached No. 1, foreshadowing the success the duo would achieve with chart-topping albums like 1968's Bookends and 1970's Bridge Over Troubled Water. In the ensuing decades, Garfunkel has continued to record and tour — both solo and with Simon — contributing to one of folk music's most venerable legacies.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Art Garfunkel. That's all I have to say. He has one of the most beautiful and touching voices I have ever heard. After 72 years of life, he's still got it."

" Art Garfunkel was wonderful. It was like he was sitting in my living room. He sounded wonderful and was so open with his thoughts, feelings and his view of life! Don't miss this show!"

"This is the best show I've seen in years. His voice was top-notch, and you can tell he is really on the mend. In fact, you really couldn't tell there had been any issues with his vocal cords."

    Garfunkel was unforgetable

by MFL26 on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

My parents took us as kids to see Art Garfunkel and I had the opportunity to turn my teenager onto Simon and Garfunkel, amazed that a teenager today would appreciate their music! We loved the show. Only downside was the venue, it was in a casino where you had to walk through it to get to the event totally filled with smokers! Would love to see him elsewhere.

    Magical evening

by Meggirl57 on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

A MUST SEE for Art Garfunkel fans, or Simon & Garfunkel fans, or anyone who appreciates beautiful music. He sang all the classic S&G hits - that gave me the chills - to see and hear him singing those gorgeous songs live! He still has the sweet tenor voice. He's very personable and has a great rapport with the audience - with his humor and storytelling. He interspersed the classics with some new songs - songs he's written and classics by Billy Joel and Randy Newman. The show is still lingering in my mind. A truly magical evening.

    Art Garfunkel's A Class Act

by jimmyalpine on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

"Remember me to one who lives there, She once was a true love of mine." And so the love continued for Art Garfunkel last nite at Twin River Casino as the icon touched the hearts and the memories of the appreciative audience for a full 90 minutes. Singing hits like The Boxer, Sound of Silence, El Condor Pasa, Kathy's Song and Mrs Robinson mixed with some Billy Joel, Jimmy Webb and Mary Chapin Carpenter favorites, Garfunkel moved the crowd to a standing ovation. True talent always shine through as it did last nite.

by AGfan on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Art Garfunkel was a welcome sight and his performance was so good for the eyes (he looked good), the ears, the mind and the heart! Seeing his performance was like being with an old friend...comfortable (except for the seats at Twin River), relaxing, soothing, and timeless. Come back again friend...you've been missed.

    Garfunkel still has it!!

by ScanMan1948 on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Art Garfunkel, though he's 68, still has that quality in his voice that made him one half of the most famous duos in the history of popular music. Everyone there totally loved the show. I heard several "Fabulous", "Awesome", "He still has it" from many as we left the event center. Of particular interest to this reviewer, was that whenever Mr. Garfunkel sang a "Simon & Garfunkel" song ("The Boxer", "El Condor Pasa", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Sound of Silence", etc.) his voice actually got stronger and the notes were much more in tune to the old days. Coincidence? I doubt it. His newer material was very very good and the lyrics were meaningful. But there's something magical about the songs they did back from the mid-60's that made them household words. All-in-all this was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

    Art Garfunkel

    by pacman61 on 11/9/09Stiefel Theatre - Salina

Art gave a good, polished performance. He sang some new numbers and of course all his popular oldies going back to 1965. He also read excerpts form his book which related to special moments in his life.

Art is still amazing even without Paul

    by dlb60 on 11/9/09Stiefel Theatre - Salina

The Art Garfunkel concert at the Stiefel Theatre in Salina was nothing short of wonderful. Not only was it wonderful to hear so many of their wonderful old tunes that bring back wonderful memories, but the fact that it was done in a venue such as the Stiefel made it feel like he was playing to a group of friends. He has an excellent sense of humor and I just want to thank him and his wonderfully talented band for contributing so much to the music world that we love. Thanks Art and his friends, you are truly gifted wonderful artists.

    Art Garfunkel was Magical!

by SteveandSally on 11/9/09Stiefel Theatre - Salina

Art Garfunkel's concert was truly magical. We enjoyed both the old time hits from our younger days and the newer songs and hits of his later career, and his band was fantastic as well. We had a wonderful time and the Stiefel Theatre was a great venue. The whole evening was well worth the road trip from Wichita.

    Garfunkle was inspiring!

by Hirosan on 11/9/09Stiefel Theatre - Salina

After 50 years performing, Art Garfunkle is as comfortable with himself as he is with his music, evolving into a spiritual, thoughtful artist. His running commentary provided useful background to the group's peerless performance. We left the theater with the feeling that we truly had experienced unique time with an American music master.

Even though he obviously had a cold or some congestion issue, the voice was still there! The delivery was smooth, the band was first-class, and I'd go again soon!
