Arkells in Concert
Arkells hail from Hamilton, Ontario, the midsize industrial city located about an hour west of the bustling metropolis of Toronto. And from day one, they've flaunted their hometown pride en route to becoming one of Canada's most popular rock bands.
The quintet named themselves after the west-end Hamilton street where they lived as students attending McMaster University, and their 2008 debut album, ‘Jackson Square,' paid tribute to the namesake shopping mall located in the heart of the city. But most importantly, the Arkells actually sounded like Hamilton, embodying the city's gritty, working-class spirit in proletarian anthems — like "Oh, the Boss Is Coming!" — that betrayed the deep influence of fellow Ontario indie-rock rabble-rousers the Constantines.
After winning the Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2010, the Arkells began to shed their steeltown skin and indie aesthetic. Max Kerman's impassioned vocals drove the soulful pop strut of "Leather Jacket" and the effervescent "Come to Light" (an open-freeway anthem in the mold of Don Henley's 1980s classic "Boys of Summer").
With 2016's ‘Morning Report,' they started taking notes from contemporary pop and hip-hop, resulting in the cheeky, gospelized R&B of "Drake's Dad" (whose video featured a cameo from Mr. Dennis Graham himself) and the brash, brass-knuckled single "Knocking at the Door" (The band's live setup has likewise expanded, incorporating a horn section and a chorus of female backing singers they dub the Arkettes).
But even as the Arkells racked up multiple Juno Awards and ascended to the ranks of bona fide arena rockers in Canada, they've never forgotten their Hamilton roots. They've supplied local Canadian Football League team the Ticats with their theme song, they continue to take an active role in endorsing local progressive politicians and urban transit initiatives, and Kerman and bassist Nick Dika have even opened their own sports bar downtown.
In June of 2018, the Arkells thanked their hometown by headlining their biggest concert to date, bringing more than 20,000 fans out to Hamilton's Tim Hortons Field for a gathering they dubbed The Rally. That sense of triumph has carried over to the subsequent album ‘Rally Cry,' whose gold-plated fusion of Springsteen-sized grandeur and modern-R&B groove shows that one of Canada's most beloved rock bands is ready to take on the world.

Liked a few of there songs but was not a big fan going in. They blew me away on stage. Became a fan that night. Amazing live!
Amazing concert!! The Arkells were so fun to watch and extremely entertaining all night. Great venue, packed in GA, but super fun environment to be in to watch the concert. Definitely would recommend!!!
Best show I have seen in a longtime. Arkells put on an incredible show. I will definitely buy tics again.
Absolutely best concert I have ever been too. I have never seen them live before and they are incredible, so interactive and energetic. Be prepared to dance like no one is watching!
First time seeing Arkells but it was amazing! Hoping we see an announcement for Rally 2023 soon!
This was my first (not last) Arkell's show, and the other bands. The show was awesome, I loved the lights, the venue was amazing, I love being outdoors. I said to my friend, I wish this could happen every weekend! The lineups were short for drinks and bathrooms...there was some confusion as to the in/out doors, or if you go in from both points in the washroom. I felt a multi pour hydration station would have been good. Otherwise great crowd control, good service, awesome band, loved the vibes!
One of the greatest shows I’ve been to! Arkells really know how to make everyone feel like one big family for a night! So much dancing, so much laughing, so much fun
Couldn’t have asked for a better night. The set was perfect and it was an incredible night for the city of Hamilton. Let’s do it again next year!
Stellar performance by such a great band. You can really tell how much they love what they do and want to make the experience special for everyone. And a basketball court, city market, and group bike?! They know how to have a great time. 10/10 as per usual!
Amazing show by an amazing band. Super inclusive, community atmosphere that is evident to be a goal of the band. Venue was great. Market prior to the show was a fantastic idea, and was super cool.
Arkells Touring Band, is easily one of the most impressive bands I’ve ever seen live. I’ve seen them twice now. Both fantastic shows in Toronto and Hamilton. I cannot wait to see them again, and it’s nice to support people who use their voice for change and for good!
Where to begin. Arkells put on one helluva show once again! From the intro and the band coming to the stage to the very last song of the encore i was dancing, singing, jumping and having the time of my life. Thank you for your moment of silence, it touched myself, my husband and thousands more. Thank you gentlemen. I love Arkells and i will go to see them over and over and over and over and..
Best.ever. The opening acts were amazing too. I can't believe I got to see Mt Joy in person!! The shout out for women's rights were spot on as well, as a woman myself, thank you. Awesome job everyone!
One of my favorite bands and this show was 2 years in the making because of covid..Can't wait till next Arkells show ..
Had the stadium rocking for over 2 hours, non-stop. Tons of energy and the crowd had a great time. Highly recommend seeing this great band
Seen them in multiple different venues (large and small)...and obviously a big fan from original Jackson Square album (which they did a great medley from mid-show - thank you). Key point is simply that it was one of the happiest shows I have ever been at...the band was psyched...and it was infectious. Crowd was obviously thrilled to be out from under COVID...and thrilled to be part of this special event. Combination was great!
Best. Show. Ever. The Arkells put on an amazing show! It was an incredible experience
We had a awesome time. The venue was great. Purchasing of food and beverages was easy and never had to wait too long. I didn't see a Timmy's which I thought that was weird considering. Arkells put on one fantastic show. Only two downfalls the sound echoes from the building across the street if you're at the back and the tv screens could be bigger so people in the nosebleeds can see. Haha overall I would definitely go back to this venue and see Arkells again. Thanks for a great show!
Better than any Arkells concert I’ve ever been too. They always put on a great show, but this was 10/10
All anyone ever says about the arkells is that they put on one hell of a live show, and they absolutely deserve that reputation. Max has unmatched vibe and energy and their songs are built to be played live. Go see 'em!!!!
