ARIEL PINK IN CONCERT:

Seeing Ariel Pink live in concert could go one of a million different ways. That's because the art pop master is famous for erratic, unpredictable performances that offer ticket buyers an up-close-and-personal look at his wonderfully bizarre internal universe. Concertgoers can never be sure of which side of Pink they'll see on stage, but that air of mystery is what makes his live shows so thrilling. He performs eccentric, expertly crafted pop rock songs like "Round and Round" and "Put Your Number in my Phone" with a stunning theatrical flair and manic energy that's infectious. His shows are full of enexpected twists but they're reliably unique and entertaining, treating audiences to a live spectacle they won't find anywhere else.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ariel Pink is a Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist known for his eccentric take on pop rock. His impressively varied and unique catalog combines pop-inspired songwriting with retro, lo-fi production. After creating several homemade cassettes in the late '90s, Pink's big break came in 2004 when Baltimore indie rockers Animal Collective signed him to their newly formed record label, Paw Tracks. The label reissued three albums of Pink's earlier material including the 2004 cult classic The Doldrums, which had first been recorded in 1999. Several limited edition and bootleg releases followed, including Lover Boy in 2006 and Scared Famous and Underground in 2007. On tour Pink's karaoke-style live shows earned him a strong underground following, and by 2008 he had a full backing band in place under the name Haunted Graffiti. In 2009 Pink inked a deal with major indie label 4AD Records and released his critically acclaimed 2010 album Before Today. Pitchfork selected the album's standout single "Round And Round" as the No. 1 song of of the year, cementing Pink's status as a critical darling. With the release of the double album Pom Pom in November 2014, the enigmatic frontman has fans eager to experience the new batch of songs at his upcoming shows.

Sadly too short and too loud

by Imsoold on 2/28/15Terminal 5 - New York

I must be getting old because I thought the show was too loud. Mr. Pink's new record, pom pom, which he played exclusively, sounds to me like a modern day Pet Sounds, beautiful and nuanced and poppy. Can you imagine attending a Beach Boys show where they just turned it up to 11? I understand Mr. Pink was ill, I commend him for coming out and playing an hour long set despite his illness and making a valiant effort, but I think he had then turn up the volume so loud because he was self conscious about his voice because he was sick, but the permanent echo effect was annoying. Overall it was too loud and too short. And for some reason they weren't letting anyone but VIPs above the first floor of the venue which was a bummer. Would like to see him again under better circumstances.

Ariel Pink is a genius and hates to admit it.

by Karibowie1 on 2/24/15Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This was one of the best shows I have been to, along with Arcade Fire and the Flaming Lips. Ariel was great. He talked to fans, took pictures with them(me), and signed merchandise. I have been told that it is rare. I will be buying several tickets for several shows when Ariel tours again, which I am hoping will be soon!

Bass player in particular was sweet. Overall, a nice tight sound. Ariel Pink is a riot.
