About

When Sheffield, England quartet, Arctic Monkeys, released their first single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" in late 2005, the song immediately shot to No.1 in the UK singles chart. Their infectious sound--a blend of catchy pop and garage band edginess--quickly garnered them an enthusiastic fanbase in the UK and abroad. The band was touted as the "next big thing" by UK press, and their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, became one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year.

    Arctic Monkeys are Amazing Live!

by JohnnyHallow on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Fox Theater allowed these British all stars to get the masses to thrash their heads back and forth to the point where at least 50 people (including myself) should see a chiropractor. Matt Helders (Drummer) killed it. They had a fantastic mix of old and new songs. I sung along, danced, drank and twisted my neck to the point that I need medical attention.

    Best of the UK

    by Number6 on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Arctic Monkeys are by far one of the best bands to come around in a long time. The show was brilliant. They've grown so much as a band and it really showed during this performance. Seeing them at The Fox was great, it's a prefect size venue. I can't wait to see them again. I only wish they had a different opening act, The Like were cringe worthy to put it mildly.

    Arctic Monkeys!

by FilthyRich on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Last night I saw Arctic Monkeys and The Like at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Arctic Monkeys were incredible. They played songs from all of their albums. They had great energy and a great stage show. Lighting effects were a nice touch as well. This was an all ages show and everyone seemed to have a good time.

    Sound Quality Lacking

    by ch4nk on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

i've always wanted to check out the fox theater but no one playing was of any interest until now. i usually like a band more after watching them live, but the sound quality defeated my expectations the band: song choices were alright. the energy levels kept alternating, which i guess is more for an endurance thing. when me energy level was up, it was brought down by a slower song which resulted in me falling asleep at my seat. the venue: lots of help getting direction to my seat nice decor and lots of breathing room...if you have a seat on the mezzanine level. not sure who is responsible for sound quality but it was definitely lacking. often sounding muddled. did i mention the place looked good?

    Arctic Monkeys rocked hard

by TuningInOut on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I waited a long time to see the Arctic Monkeys and they did not disappoint. Combining both their older stuff with songs off their new Humbug album, the band reminded us how good rock music can feel. Their new album sound is reminiscent of 1950's guitar styles mixed with their own unique rock and soft-to-hard song movements. The drummer is just phenomenal. Go see them when they visit a venue near you.

    Artic Monkeys rocked the house

by Steveybaby on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

They were great. The acoustics at the Fox theater let them down a bit.

    Monkey's play a Foxy show.

    by kambosoup85 on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Turner and the boys return with their newest album Humbug. To be honest, I didn't think many songs from this album would sound all that great live but I love it when rock and roll proves me wrong. Coming on stage performing Dance Little Liar gave you a taste what you were in for that night. It didn't take long for elbows and sweat to start flying once the first few bars were played and soon many crowd members, including myself, found themselves being literally moved by The Arctic Monkeys. Somewhere along the lines someone in the crowd to tastelessly shout out, "The Strokes are better than you!" which might be true, but I don't think they could rock a crowd as hard as The Arctic Monkeys. They've just got too many frantic, fast paced rock and roll songs so comparing the two when it comes to how the crowd reacts. All in all, the Monkeys put on a fantastic show last night.

Arctic Monkeys great, but sound needs improvement

by CMandoo on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Saw the Arctic Monkeys at the Fox Theater in Oakland. This was my second show at this venue (the prior one was The Allman Brothers). Loved the minimalist stage setup of the the band, and they brought a lot of energy to the show. Unfortunately, the drums seemed to be miked, and were so loud that you could barely hear the rest of the music, especially the vocals. This was not the case the last time I was at The Fox. Not sure if it was the band's sound guys or the venue sound system.

    Arctic Monkeys

by SFFan on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Their hair is getting longer but their songs are still short, so a lot were packed into a noisy, rocking 65-minute set plus a two-song encore at this great venue. The band was loud and tight, especially on those patented stops and starts in many of their songs. Alex Turner was a bit more of the focus than when I saw them 18 months ago, and he took the mike in hand and put aside his guitar on a few songs. (Couldn't quite make out much of what he said between songs, with the accent & distorted mic). The fans up front swayed like a wheat field - not quite a mosh pit but close - and there was some some crowd-surfing, a British flag waved, and their older songs drew the biggest applause. Drummer Matt Helders, hair still short, did his usual great work while managing the important -to-their-sound backing vocals. A fifth unofficial member of the band played keyboards and sometimes guitar. Wish they'd done "Fake Tales of San Francisco" and some other oldies but can't expect many I guess.

Great Band, Beuatiful Venue, Horrible Sound

by Stax on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The band was fine. I have seen them on several occassions and they were as good as ever. The problem with the show, however, was the Fox Theater in Oakland. The Fox is probably the most beautiful and accomodating venue in the Bay Area. The staff at the Fox is top notch. The theater's acoustics, however, are terrible. I have seen multiple shows at the Fox, both upstairs and downstairs, and the sound has sucked every time. As for the Arcitic Monkeys, they were a great, as usual, I just wish I could have heard them better.

A bad impression of Black Sabbath

by Breadwench on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Well, it's official, the Fox Theater is the least favorite venue in the East Bay. Aside from the low stage height, combined with a poorly designed floor (you should be 6 foot plus if you hope to even see the musicians) it's hot hot hot. Still, I was hoping the Arctic Monkeys could deliver a show comparable to their Warfield appearance from back in 2006. Unfortunately, they have shed their catchy, scratchy garage rock for darker, more Black Sabbath style dirges. Thing is, Ozzy and company did it best, it's a bit hard to swallow from this band. What can I say, I left early...

This is my thrid Arctic Monkeys concert, and they are amazing! Loved everything about the show, especially the cuts from Humbug (Cornerstone in particular!). Whenever they play at a venue close to the Bay Area, I'll be there!

    The Arctics Sucked!!!!!

by Disgruntledgirl on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

OMG where do I start. Well first let me tell you that I have seen the Arctic Monkeys twice at the Warfield and they were awesome. Then let me tell you that last night was the first time ever I have walked out a gig!!!!!!!!!!! It was a disaster. They opened the show with a song I did not know, it was slow, monotonous, not the best start to get you going at a show. The sound was awful. The Arctics are all about Alex's strong and distinctive vocals and they should be up front and in your face but last night his vocals were lost in a blur of noise. The sound was muddy and just plain bad. I went to a few different spots to see if it was where we were standing but that didn't help. We had driven all the way from Morgan Hill to Oakland so I was gutted that it was a wasted journey, we left in disgust after we heard our fav tune 'bet that you look good...." even it couldn't make up for the dismal sound. I have seen a few other bands at the Fox and the sound was great so the venue is not to blame. I have gone to at least a hundred gigs in my 37 years on this planet but I have to say that last night was the worst I have ever seen, including support acts. I would have given them negative 5 stars if I could. Bad, bad , bad...... Arctics:- fire your sound guy and get back to what you do best!!!!

Great show, really loud, the crowd-surfing was crazy. I thought the all girl opening band was good, too.

Band was terrific but sound wasn't

by DSteps on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Arctic Monkeys rocked however from the balcony the sound was pretty bad. Was very excited to see a concert at The Fox, especially Arctic Monkeys, but it was very difficult to hear the lyrics from our seats in the balcony. It was almost like there was a delay and very little treble. Next time we will get tickets for the floor. Hopefully its a lot better down there. If anything, The Fox made me miss the incredible acoustics of the Warfield where I saw the Monkeys last.

Seriously...the Arctic Monkeys are the FUTURE. Two words....Matt Helders. He's just this incredible force. But everything was Fantastic. A few more old songs would be awesome but there are no complaints.

    APW Festival

by furrySatan on 8/3/09All Points West - Liberty State Park - Jersey City

Saw these guys at APW Festival in Jersey and they sounded great! I liked their music before, but you can't tell how good a band is until you see them live. It would be pretty hard not to enjoy this music. There's a lot of talent in this band, and I can't believe they're not huge in the states yet.
