About

When Sheffield, England quartet, Arctic Monkeys, released their first single "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" in late 2005, the song immediately shot to No.1 in the UK singles chart. Their infectious sound--a blend of catchy pop and garage band edginess--quickly garnered them an enthusiastic fanbase in the UK and abroad. The band was touted as the "next big thing" by UK press, and their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, became one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year.

Bad Sound and low energy from Arctic Monkeys.

by mrmity on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Down on the floor we couldn't hear any guitars! We moved up a tier next to the mixing board and it sounded somewhat better. Mostly, the cave like sound was a let down. Not sure who to blame for that. The band didn't really live up to the energy of their records.

The Arctic Monkey's show last was unforgettable, increible, awe inspiring, beautiful, and completely AMAZING! They don't come around to the states very often. So I absolutely had to go this show and I am SOOO glad I did. It was the best. I love Arctic Monkeys and I hope to see them again in the near future.

    Arctic Monkeys disappoint.

    by skafan50 on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Where do I begin? It took the band over 30 min to appear on stage after the opening act got off. When they finally showed up, Alex (the lead singer) appeared to be pretty drunk and didn't even say anything to the audience for a few songs. While he was pretty solid on vox and didn't mess up any lyrics, he did almost nothing to get the audience into the music. True, most of the high and drunk audience was already dancing like crazy to the music, but Alex didn't attempt to connect with the crowd. His slurred accent made it hard to understand what he was saying anyways. Their lead guitarist didn't stand out all that much, but he did do some pretty cool effects on his guitar. The bassist wasn't all that impressive either. The drummer, however, stole the show. His drumming style seemed very unique and he did a good job at keeping pace and had very solid fills. The most disappointing thing was their setlist. They played an average set, about an hour and a half, and covered all their songs from their new album, about a third of their second album, and almost none from their first album (which happens to be my favorite). Despite cries from the audience to play Mardy Bum, they didn't play it, nor did they play When the Sun Goes Down. Hell, they didn't even play Fake Tales of San Francisco despite being in the SF Bay Area. Overall, it was quite a letdown. You're better off listening to their CD's in your bedroom than going to one of their concerts.

    Arctic Monkeys mature

by Capslock on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The seats were perfect, actually too good for this type of band. The sound was outstanding. And the AM came to play. More talking than usual, a set list that included many new songs and of course most of their big hits. Great guitar work accompanied the excellent drumming. Why it did not sell out I cannot imagine. The band is always excellent. This is the third time I've seen them . I look forward to the next and I pray that it is at this theatre.

    Arctic Monkeys

    by bert209 on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Arctic monkeys are an incredible band and they played brilliantly but.. they didn't play that many songs and they had limited interaction with the crowd. To me it really seemed like they just wanted to play their songs and get out of there. Still a GREAT performance musically though.

    Arctic Monkeys were hot!

by Tadtad on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The band it self was great, even if their opening act left stuff to be desired. The Monkeys know how to put on a show and keep their audience entertained. It was a lot of fun!

it was the 4th time for me, amazing show, Alex Turner's voice is never disappointing and the Rex is a fantastic place, there is even a huge hall connected to the Rex to get a bite or a drink quickly before the show !

Arctic Monkeys.... Where's the old stuff?

by Sketchfire on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was left wanting as most of the show was stuff from the new album and slow songs. I kept waiting for them to play their good popular songs but few came. No Fake Tales of SF or Mardy Bum, ritz to the rubble... Sigh. The show started high energy and then finished with 5 slow songs in a row. Where are their good old songs? Did they have a fight and kick them out? I am still a big fan but only from a distance... Was a bit disappointed.

    Great, but short.

    by Nessa182 on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I thought that the overall performance was terrific, but it lacked the normal personality of the band. I would have liked to see more transitions where the band members talked or incorporated the audience a bit more. It was a tad bit short as well. Overall my friends and I had a blast and the music selection was beyond amazing.

    Arctic Monkeys rock!!!!!

by yunilla on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

They were great! I guess the crowd wanted more of the songs from their first 2 albums, but I liked the setlist. They played almost all the songs from the new album which was great for me cause that became my favorite as soon as I got the CD. Alex wasn't chatty but I guess that's understandable considering how he is in the magazines usually. I really enjoyed the whole show. I hope they come back soon. When they shall come back, they should some to SF though; I didn't quite enjoy being in Oakland at night even though there were securities and all at the parking lot and sort.

    Fox Theater sound no good

by geners on 9/17/09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I love the Arctic Monkeys and I would reccommend them to any music lover. I was however disappointed with the sound at the Fox Theater. Very echoey. When Alex talked between songs you couldn't understand him. When the music was raging with all instruments going at 10 it was a jumbled mess.. I have seen the arctic monkeys before and they are a very tight band - that was lost this time around because of the theater. My only other critique would be the set list. I love the new album (Humbug) but some of the songs they interjected from it into the later part of the set didn't work.. the energy of the whole show came down (I'm talking about Dangerous Animal). Anyway - love the Monkeys - all the best to them. As for the Fox Theater - I won't be returning.
