About

ANN: AN AFFECTIONATE PORTRAIT OF ANN RICHARDS is a play with Emmy® Award-winning stage and screen actress Holland Taylor. A hilarious and inspiring evening of theater celebrating a beloved daughter of Texas, Taylor hopes ANN will "bring a magical touch to the past and the present, swirling them together as only the theatre can do, and leaving the audience with an enhanced sense not only of a person and a time, but of themselves."

    What a treat!

by bbnjn on 12/4/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Unfortunately for us we had been stuck in Eisenhower traffic behind an accident and we missed the first half hour of a show that started on time! Go figure. When I am a half an hour early a show typically starts 15 min. late! But What we witnessed was true glory! I feel like i know Ann personally, now. Too bad it is having such a short run as I would go again ans tell everyone I know to go! thanx Holland!

HOlland as Ann - an undisputable work of love

by nancyinchicago1 on 12/4/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Holland Taylor should win a Jefferson or at least 3, and the Sarah Siddons award. She is tremenously talented and energetic. 5 stars isn't high enough to give her praise. She should also win Tony's for this!

    Exceeded expectations

by paws11 on 12/3/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I was really looking forward to this performance and thought it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations. Holland Taylor's resemblance to Ann Richards was uncanny, and she totally mastered her Texas accent. Her articulation of her lines was perfect, and she played perfectly to the audience. It was a wonderfully enjoyable evening.

by katyhunny on 12/3/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

What a warm, funny and tender tribute to a warm, funny and tender-hearted woman!!! Holland Taylor knocked this one out of the park. I loved every minute of the play and I'm a Republican!!!!! ;-) I have been a fan of Ms. Taylor since "The Practice"and continue to enjoy her portrayal of the Mom on "Two and a Half Men." So she had me as I walked in the theater. Wonderful story and portrayal.

I saw Holland Taylor on Wed. Nov. 30th and it was an event not to be missed. I don't know if I should be more amazed at the writing or performance; both incredible!

FABULOUS! Tour de' Force for Holland Taylor. I thought it should be 90 minutes with No intermission. It would have packed an even bigger punch. It was great. No to be missed.

    Amazing

by TravelingDonna on 12/2/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The ability of this actress to talk non stop for 2 hours in a one person show, really shows the skill of the actress. The show was funny and informative and showed a side of Ann Richards that would appeal to people of all political persuasions. One of the best plays I have seen in quite some time.

Ann, stunning portrayal of the Guv

by CGrim on 12/2/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Growing up in the middle of a fantastic political movement in Chicago, the election of Harold Washington, and then moving to Austin, TX, the live music capitol of the world, Ann struck numerous chords with me. A stunning likeness, in drawl, appearance, rhetoric, enthusiasm, and powerful role model, an Affectionate Portrait of Ann Richards is an understatement. Written in such a stylistic way, the elaborate sets and production we've become accustomed to were not missed in the least. Much like the Governor herself, it was all substance with just the right amount of style. I even learned some interesting things along the way which excited me being a student of modern politics, to learn political history through a Broadway performance! This one woman show, which you can only help feel the Governor experienced herself being a minority elected official in such a cowboy red studded state was truly first class. Don't miss it.

    "Ann" held your attention throughout

by PLFL on 12/2/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Holland Taylor did a wonderful job of writing the play and delivering. Having remembered Ann Richards giving speeches she was right on track. I did expect to hear the "silver spoon" comment she made about Bush, but that did not present itself.

I expect a Tony nomination for Holland Taylor

by JuneH on 12/2/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The audience was hushed watching this as big as life portrayal of Ann Richards. Ms. Taylor, who was on stage for at least 120 minutes, did an incredible job. Writing the story would have been daunting for most people but then to become Ann before our eyes was amazing.

    Holland Taylor is a STAR!

by Miggles on 12/2/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Holland Taylor did an incredible job both writing and acting in "Ann." She was funny and sympathetic at the same time. She absolutely nailed Ann Richards' speech and physical mannerisms. We enjoyed every minute and commend Holland Taylor for bringing this wonderful production to the stage. Good luck on Broadway - this will garner numerous Toni Awards, no doubt.
