About

ANI DIFRANCO IN CONCERT:

Alt-rock powerhouse and feminist icon Ani DiFranco continues to be a symbol of activism through music, pulling no punches with her socially conscious songwriting more than 20 years after her debut. At her inspiring live shows DiFranco gives it her all, delivering her unfiltered lyrics with a raw emotionalism that perfectly complements her polished guitar playing. From classics like "Shameless" to newer material like "Whose Side Are You On?", DiFranco covers a wide selection of favorites on her latest tour, never failing to have a blast in the process.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Buffalo, NY, DiFranco was a precocious young talent, performing Beatles covers in local bars as early as age nine. Just a few years later she was playing original material in coffee shops, and by age 15 she had moved out of her mother's house to live in her own apartment as an emancipated minor. At age 18 she started her own record company Righteous Records, releasing her self-titled debut album on the label the following year. Over the next two decades DiFranco released a new album nearly every year, touring extensively and earning several Grammy nominations including a Best Contemporary Folk Album nod for 2000's Fellow Workers. Back on the road for her latest tour, the ever-prolific talent will treat fans to never-before-heard material from her upcoming album.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Ani Difranco's performance was truly unforgettable. She changed guitars for every song and even changed some of the acoustics for a few songs. Her voice was even better live!"

"She plays so hard and with such precision. It's like watching the Cirque du Soleil, you see it with your own eyes and you still wonder if it's possible. She's so ceaselessly generous and friendly."

"Her vocals and energy are off the charts. She's funny, engaging and smart. We had a great time. A good mix of the old classics and a couple of brand new ones."

Way too much emphasis on new material

by Fredator on 7/16/09Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

I would consider myself an Ani Difranco fan, although not nearly as fanatical as many of her concertgoers. I have 6 or 7 Ani albums and have maybe 25 or 30 songs that I think of as my favorites in her catalogue. This show was really tough to sit through. I literally only recognized one song. While the new stuff sounded fine, the older material she chose completely missed virtually all of my favorites. She needs to balance out her set list a bit, realizing that there are fans from all different age groups and time periods and not everyone is so fanatical that they've already memorized the new album and the stuff that's just been posted on the internet. I had a hard time staying engaged with the show. My wife would give the show an even less favorable review.

Ani at the Orpheum...Best show EVER

by irockout on 7/16/09Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

I have loved Ani DiFranco since I was 13 years old....that was about 10 years ago, and I can't believe this was the first time I ever saw her live. Her music has had an incredible influence on me. The show at the Orpheum was absolutely the best concert I have ever been to (and I have been to a lot of great concerts). The Orpheum is GORGEOUS and I cannot think of another venue that would have been so perfect for Ani's performance. Ani's new songs are AMAZING. I usually prefer when artists play the songs I have heard...and just a few new ones (because the reason I love them is because of the songs I've heard!) ...but I wanted to hear more and more new songs!! I have been looking all over the Internet and iTunes trying to find the songs she played. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I would pay big bucks to get a high quality video of that entire concert. Ani rocks my socks off!!!!

    Unmatchable connection with the audience

by Clivey on 7/16/09Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

When you go to see Ani, a great majority of the audience are coming their third or fourth time, possibly more. She is the audience's friend! I've never seen a performer with such charisma and such love. And, oh, she is passionate.

Ani Difranco is better than the best.

by GreenTai on 7/16/09Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

I love Ani but have never had a chance to see her in concert. I was having this horrible day and was listening to one of her cds and thought "I would be so much happier if I was watching Ani in concert right now." When I got home that day there was an ad for her concert on the right hand side of the screen on Facebook. I knew I had to see it. She was better in concert than I could have ever hoped for. I was a little worried because I knew that I had built up the event so dramatically, but it was sensational. She was vibrant and she took full command of the stage. Todd Sickafoose and the Tiny Resistors opened and my fiance (one of five guys in the entire theatre) said that he liked them so much he is interested in seeing a show with just them. He had only heard Ani sometimes when we were in the car together but he loved her so much. He especially loved that she did two encore songs. It goes without saying that I would see Ani a billion and one times again in concert. I have almost never been as happy as I was at her concert. She inspires me.

by jOyO on 7/16/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

This is was my third year seeing Ani Difranco at Humphreys in San Diego and all three times have been great. I love that I can purchase a package that includes front row seats, a one nights stay, and dinner. The venue itself is great! So in all I had a wonderful time. It's always like a mini vacation.

    Simply orgasmic

by Ambuh87 on 7/10/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

As always, Ani was simply amazing... Never have I seen a more entertaining show. I literally got goosebumps throughout her entire set. As an artist... she is among the stars. I will definitely be going to another one of her shows.... like every show she has around my area. It was my friends first time seeing Ani live and she was not let down in the least bit. The set list was phenomenal and the energy was top notch. I have often described Ani live as simply orgasmic. Ani, as well as her other band members seem to 'make love' to their instruments... To watch something so magical as the interaction between an artist and their instrument is life changing. The passion she shows with her guitar is something that isn't learned though, either your born with it or your not.... Ani.... was definitely born with it :0)
