About

André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

  • A spectacular show!

by Gale on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The music was amazing! The beautiful dresses and tux the people wore were beautiful to see. The voices of the Tenors and Sopranos was breathtaking! Seeing all the people waltz and dance their own thing was awesome. Andre Rieu was funny and he really looked like he enjoyed what he does. His orchestra was astounding and very reactive. I loved the show!!!! Every minute was truly beautiful! I could have watched for hours more! Thank you!

  • Nice performance, venue not so

by Konse on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Overall great concert, however room for improvement. Performers: The selection and performance of music was wonderful, as always at André Rieu concert. Also the costumes - so nice to see beautiful colorful gowns and not just all black. Stage: I don’t think that during the gospel performance the cartoonish projection on the screen behind the musicians was classy. It was distracting and not at the same aesthetic level as the musical performance. Venue: the floor seating was too crammed and without cup holders - I saw cups all over the floor….Also the cost of drinks!? Really, one drink costs $17 ???…That’s more than hourly minimum wage. And the audacity to ask also for a tip?

  • Andre Rieu Sept 19 2023 in Boston

by gardenangel on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Andre Rieu is exceptional-a talented and brilliant musician and leader of his orchestra We have all the DVD's of his concerts. We were a bit disappointed in this concert because it was all the same music that he has done before in every other concert. The Scots pipers were a great addition to the concert , the high point of the performance But all the rest was much too familiar I wish he would have some new music for a change

by Jim on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the most enjoyable concerts I have ever attended. Everyone had a good time. I would attend another Andre Rieu concert if he returns to the US..

  • The Best

by Bunkie on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

He is, hands down, the absolute best. I wish he’d come to TD every year. He needs to come to New England wayyyyy more often.

    by Tim B. on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Andre Rieu was fantastic. He and his orchestra provided a night of fantastic music, singing, dancing, and laughter. He is a must see and it was not just classical music but local bagpipe band and a wonderful gospel choir.

  • The staff need to improve

by Clover Nguyen on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The staff need to show more clear where my seat right because I have to looking for my seat 2-3 times wrong and stand near the curtain where people come inside the show around 1hour and 10 mins because I can’t find my seat right but I love the show. I love his music and everyone perform on the stage at that time.

  • As expected, but...

    by John H on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Andre is a showman. His interaction with the audience, captivating performance, costumes, stage sets... always awesome. I have seen him and his orchestra before and their performance has always been a treat to the audio and visual senses. However, I paid and expected to watch classical music and sing and dance. I did not pay for 30 minutes of gospel singing. I love gospel, but that was not the place or the time for such performance. I understand that an inclusive concert is a sign of the times and political correctness, but not at my expense. If the show was free - I would not have a problem with a death metal skid for all I care in the middle of his performance- off the top of my head Nightwish will dovetail nicely into a classical concert no doubt. But that is not the case. In a nutshell - more classical music, less experimenting with what the typical audience at a classical concert likes and came for. Thank you

  • Unbelievable!

by Retta Sanders on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely over the top! Never enjoyed a concert more than I enjoyed this one. No words to describe how magnificent they all were. Thank you so much for an enjoyable evening.

  • Exceeded expectations

by Tom on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I was familiar with Andre Rieu and expected a quality performance but the production truly exceeded those expectations - musically, visually, audience participation and variety of the musical score. The production elements were top shelf and seamlessly presented. The cast and performers were outstanding and their high energy was carried throughout. Rieu is the consummate performer, very authentic and engaging.

  • A wonderful evening!

by TPR on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Far exceeded my wife’s expectations! Great variety of music. Andre is just a pure entertainer.

  • Andre comments on late arrivals

by Out of state on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I was so glad Andre commented on the late arrivals. Normally they would have not been allowed to enter until intermission especially the ones near the front. It was embarrassing that people came and went during the performance! I thought the entire performance was outstanding!!!

  • Amazing show!

by MLR on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Such a wonderful evening. Andre always puts on such a fun show. We also had the extra experience of bagpipers and gospel singers. He opens the dance floor during the waltz and anyone can get involved. He is a fabulous entertainer and his orchestra and singers are top notch.

  • A Dream came TRUE!

by George Mc on 9/22/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've been wanting to see Andre Rieu ever since seeing some of his videos on Youtube; he is very definitely a great conductor/violist but also and excellent showman! This concert did not disappoint, he staged an amazing show and very much tailored to his Boston audience. Now I want to see him again at some of his larger European venues!!
