About

André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

Amazing, words can not describe the beauty, the vibes and magnificent atmosphere

  • Saw same show at Cinema for much less $

by Chris on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 3 out of 5

We have been seeing Andre Rieu & orchestra at the Cineplex Cinema since 2013. We have always enjoyed his various shows: Maastricht, Christmas, New Year's, etc.. But we were very disappointed to see that the tickets we had purchased in December 2022 for his show at the Bell Center was the exact same show we had seen at the cinema in August 2023 (Maastricht)!, minus the ambiance, close-ups, surrounding scenery, etc... ALSO, although we had seats next to the aisle, we couldn't see the arrival of the musicians on the stage, because the aisle was filled with late arrivals for 15 min after the start of the show at 7h30! People arriving that late should only be allowed to enter at intermission! We will continue to view his shows at the Cinema, but this is the last we will see at the Bell Center.

  • An amazing eving

by Estelle Guérin on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

It was the second time for us to attend live at the Bell Center and we really enjoyed our evening in company of André Rieu and his Johan Strass Orchestra. The athmosphere was contagious. Something to repeat.

  • A Flashy Musical Show

by Joe on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 3 out of 5

It was very much as I had expected it to be. Very good singers and orchestra, with no serious music. Mostly a flashy show of beautiful dresses, jewelry and singers.

  • Extreme delay & mess in entry

by Nado on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 3 out of 5

Although we arrived 45 mins before the event with prepaid parking tickets, we have been directed to a section of the parking that can access via 2 slow elevators only! This tiny entrance door was marked as "Private for Desjardins Club"which was wrong because it was the only entrance at this section, so many of us missed it and were going in circles trying to find our access. Some of us wanted to take the stairs but it was not allowed. The elevators were filled like cans of sardines!! The line up was very long and we missed 15 mins of the show and the lineup was still very long behind us. No wonder there were people entering and searching for their seats until almost the entracte! Even Andre Rieu commented on people arriving late and disturbing the orchestra and the audience. Also, the entrance of the wheelchairs was messy and disturbing. I think someone tripped. In conclusion, I have been to Center Bell many times before and this was the most messy entry I have ever seen there.

  • Great show

by Kian on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

The show itself was great; however, what was not great was the organization of the venue. We first showed our tickets to about 4 different attendants, and all of them told us to take the escalator going up. Once we got up, again we asked another attendant, only to find out that it was wrong, we had to go all the way down. There was only one elevator for hundreds of people. Each time the elevator arrived, it was full, we had to wait another 10 minutes for it to return. We were not impressed. The show was fantastic, as always.

by Joey on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

Beautiful show, incredible talent by all performers. Venue was not organized, we had to change seats 2 times as organizers sent us to the wrong sections. People were standing up switching seats during the show as well, late comers also walking freely around while the show was on.

This is my third time at a concert of Andre Rieu. I had the chance to see him in Vienna two times and this last concert was really the best one in Quebec. What a night! He is always at his best and always surprise us with special guests. Thanks for this memorable evening 🙋‍♀️❤️

  • A wonderful evening

by Mike on 9/24/23Centre Videotron - QuébecRating: 5 out of 5

The chairs were uncomfortable, the food expensive and not really good, a lady in the row before ours wore a cheap fragrance and Rieu came in with the whole band and like magic, every annoying little details disappeared! The master, every single musician, each Technicolor asst were providing us with one of the most beautiful evening in years! Thx to all of them. Even the lady in the front row!😅
