About

André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

  • .Night of beautiful music

by Happy spectator on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Beautiful music, beautiful set up and all the orchestra was beautifully dressed with colourful dress for the ladies and nice tuxedoes for the gentlemen. The spectacle provided a good mixed of melodies and opera singers.

  • Excellent concert and performance

by John on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed the overall concert but a few disappointments. The three tenors sang beautifully but were on too long. Similarly the Gospel choir was very good, but also on too long and not really the music we came to listen to, which of course was the classical Johann Strauss music, which is the heart of Andre Rieu's orchestra and repertoure.

Got great seats through vivid/ticketmaster, very easy to use ticketmaster app and got lots of reminders on what to do. Would use ticketmaster again!

  • Disappointing

by Roo on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

I expected more waltz music. I was disappointed that the dancers were not involved. Why the black group? They were like fish out of water. When you see Andre's ads, you have high expectations. I gave our tickets to my husband for Christmas last year and I felt the money was wasted. Not what I wanted or expected!!!!!

by Booboo on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

The show was excellent. We missed the start of the show because the line of people having problems with tickets on the phone was terribly long. And we were part of it. I still prefer paper tickets.

  • This is coming from the heart

by Biggest Andre Rieu Fan of them all on 9/25/23Rating: 2 out of 5

Dear Andre, we Are huuuuuuuuuge fans! Read all of these Reviews they have 3 things in common and message is loud and clear: #1. All people that came love you sooooo much but not so much the gospel group as good as they were, i too agree. #2. Its a mess when such quality classical Concert is in sports arena on so Many levels of yucky Experiences. And #3 All these Many helpers in Yellow Shirts helped us in no Way except stand in front of paying audience blocking our view while we sat, every video, picture we took and every song they were with their behinds in front of our face. Lot of us will never ever go Because of this but would otherwise to Your Concert only with no guest singers and at Theatre and not sports arena! We pay a lot and go through a lot to see you and get dissapointed for these 3 reasons but not by you or Your Team ! We paid a lot already but would pay double or even 3-4x more to get the good experience at Wang Theatre in Boston and wouldnt mind! Because We love YOU you!

  • Great Experience

by MMiller on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 2 out of 5

The room was too hot! Not enough ventilation. Seats are too close to each other . Over priced tickets. Great staff working on site . Everyone working was ready to help us. Artist gave a nice show

  • Well worth the time and cost

by Papi Mig on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

I especially enjoyed the featured singer, in her solo numbers and supporting voice. Also, the classics "Volare"or others from the 50's and 60's, coupled with a willingness to adapt to the culture in Quebec and North America, with numbers Canadians know and recognize, with some Latino numbers, Gospel, boogie woogie and the classic Austrian numbers with Mr Rieu on the violin ....takes balls of steel to do what he does, leading a band, WorldWide, with such a large number of musicians. Once gone, who can replace Mr Rieu ? Go see him while you can and before he retires.

  • Andre Rieu in Montréal Sept 22, 2023

by Cô Tam on 9/25/23Centre Bell - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great! Andre Rieu and his orchestra were fantastic. However, the local church performance was too long (we came to see Andre and his orchestra, and not the others, one song would be enough) Thank you!
