About

André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

  • Very disappointed. Not worth the time or money.

by JMAN on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Let me start by saying we were very excited and even counting down the days to this show. My wife has always wanted to see Andre Rieu. It has been one of the things she has talked about for forever. We originally even had tickets to go to Vancouver to see him until that show got cancelled. So Toronto he came. We bought tickets. She was so excited. The first half of the show was great. He was very interactive, funny we were loving it. Intermission happen. Then the show never got back there. Music pieces weren't good at all. Boring actually. Didn't play the favorites we were hoping for. Then he says goodbye. A lot of people left complaining that the show was too short. I have seen a lot of he videos and even got dragged to see he 75th birthday movie. This was definitely the worse that I ever have seen and wish I saved all the money that I spent for tickets, dinner, baby sitter, parking, drinks. I could of went on a week holidays for this price. Horrible.

  • Best concert experience ever!

Andre Rieu and his orchestra keep you entertained. They're talented, funny, and engaging. We hope to someday see them in Maastricht!

  • Fantastic concert, venue marshalling required

by KLM on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was wonderful, Andre Rieu was fantastic. the sound was excellent. However, MLSE should offer marshalling to the crowds of people outside the venue waiting in unnecessary lines. We were in a line for the longest time, it was moving so slowly, and we never should have been in that line at all. We just ended up getting into our seats just in time for the show to start, but many, many people were late into their seats, and I believe it was not because they were late getting to the venue, it was because no one knew where to go, and were waiting in line-ups for no reason.

  • Flat sound, disappointing acoustics

by Andre Reiu on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Been to so many concerts that had 10x Better sound and bass. For a show that is live instrumental, it sounded like we were listening to a recording off an iPod.

  • Fantastic show, very professional, lots of talent

  • A Night to Remember

by Dani on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have always dreamed of seeing Andre Rieu in person and I could hardly believe it when I saw him coming to Toronto. While I believe an outdoor venue near the lake would have been magical they did their best with what they had. The music was wonderful, the sound was fantastic and atmosphere was authentic. Thank you for coming to Canada!

  • Awsome! Amazing! Spectacular!

by Jack Klumpus on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I bought my tickets 9 months in advance to see Andre Rieu. That's unprecedented for me. My wife and I had seats in Row 15. I had planned to see Andre Rieu in Sunrise, Florida a few years ago but that got cancelled due to Covid-19. What a talented group of musicians/performers! The production of Elvis's, "Can't Help Falling in Love,"was touching. The Gospel Singers were very talented. This was my first time hearing live gospel music. It did not disappoint. The music and production of the song Bolero was nothing less than spectacular. Of course they played the Blue Danube. Their rendition of O Canada was impressive as well. Obviously a great show. The Andre Rieu production was at the Scotiabank Arena. The staff at the arena were pleasant and helpful. After most people cleared the arena, (a few dozed people were left in the audience). Andre and the entire cast came out for a photo session. Rather than being chased out, we were encouraged by the staff to go close to the stage and take photos and/or selfies. That was an unexpected treat! Parking was nearby at the Telus Tower. Bottom line, this show was worth every penny and then some!

  • Somewhat Disappointed

by BJC on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Too much Gospel. I also feel we got the B team compared with other performances reviewed.

  • I don't like eticket

by Titi on 9/28/23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

E ticket is too difficult for senior like me. I need to ask someone to help me. I hope that I can have a "real' ticket next time.

Andre' Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra's concert in Washington, D.C. was excellent. The orchestra and audience combined to provide a strong energy and love for music. The musical selections and performers' talents combined to present a wonderful night of music and fun for the audience to enjoy. Highly recommend planning a trip soon to attend a future concert.

  • A wonderful evening

by Ariane on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was everything that we expected and there were a few unexpected additions. We have seen Andre Rieu concerts on TV, but here in Ottawa we had a pipe band and a gospel segment. The encores went on just as we expected, having seen this before. To be able to see dancers on the floor of the Canadian Tire Centre for the Strauss waltz was something that I could never have imagined. It was wonderful and we loved every minute of it.

  • Absolutely great.

by Robrob on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

The whole event pushes the spectacle into a marvel and makes you want to sing along. Real singing and instruments with talented people. Truly wonderful.

  • Concert was great, venue was a mistake

by ELR on 9/26/23TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The orchestra was amazing, and they had a ton of variety and guest musicians. The conductor and band tried everything they could to engage the audience and pump people up. I just wish I saw it in a venue where the sound was swallowed and with people from a city that were more apt to engage. I saw it in a hockey/basketball arena and without full stands and people cheering, it just sounded empty.

  • Great Fun!

by Tomnny on 9/26/23UBS Arena - Belmont Park - Long IslandRating: 5 out of 5

Andre Rieu and his grand orchestra provide a fun, uplifting, entertaining evening of music. Mr. Rieu is witty, charming, and knows how pull in his whole audience. Great show!

  • A Terrific Show

by The Bav on 9/26/23Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Great music from a wonderful orchestra. With added tenors, sopranos, a gospel choir, and even a bagpipe band with menbers form Toronto and Montreal. Wonderful variety of music, and all the performers really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Very good acoustics, considering it took place in a 17,000 seat arena. The sound system and lighting were well done.
