Anderson .Paak in Concert
Presenting the artist in a top hat and plaid boxer shorts as he plays piano in the surf amid a smattering of objects like an old-school record player, the surreal cover image for Anderson .Paak's breakthrough album perfectly suited its wildly inventive contents. Full of witty, unpredictable songs and styles that ranged from ‘60s soul to ‘90s hip-hop to vanguard R&B, ‘Malibu' became one of 2016's most acclaimed albums, establishing its creator as a maverick whose imagination can seem virtually limitless. Along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the album earned Anderson .Paak another Grammy nod for Best New Artist along with similar acknowledgements at the Soul Train Music Awards and the BET Hip Hop Awards.
All that marked a long journey from Anderson .Paak's first foray into music, which was playing drums in church growing up in Oxnard, California. After coming to Los Angeles, he sought to establish himself as a session musician while creating his own sounds under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. His fortunes rose when he began working for Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the revered L.A. hip-hop duo and production team. His new confidence inspired him to drop his former handle in favor of Anderson .Paak, a stylized version of his real name. The buzz got louder with the release of his wildly diverse debut, ‘Venice' (2014), and his contributions to albums by Dr. Dre and The Game. And while he fully proved his capabilities with ‘Malibu,' it was ‘Yes Lawd!' (2016) by NxWorries – his duo with producer Knxwledge – as well as shows with his band The Free Nationals that confirmed he's just as compelling with close collaborators on hand as when he's pursuing his singular vision.
His third album and first since signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, ‘Oxnard' sees Anderson .Paak introduce yet more colors in his palette, beginning with Technicolor textures, carnivalesque soundscape, and his own exuberant flow in "Bubblin'," the album's first single. And with his return to stages with The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak is ready to make good on his reputation as one of the exciting new talents in hip-hop and R&B.
everything about the concert was great. I loved the music and the crowd. the venue was awesome too.
Every generation only has a few true original artists, and even more rarely are they great entertainers. .Paak is that dude.
The show was great. Thundercat was great. Earl Swaetshirt was terrible.
The show that Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals put on was wonderful. It also introduced me to Tayla Parx who supported them during the tour and she is awesome as well
Venue was super dope. Paak’s set was incredible. Crowd was lit.
One of the better shows I’ve seen. Lots of energy, great atmosphere and diverse crowd 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This might have been the best concert I've ever been to. Anderson Paak is certainly one of the strongest performers of our generation, and I felt truly blessed to have witnessed his talents live. The Free Nationals brought the heat as well. And Orpheum Theatre was a beautiful venue.
He is one of the best performers I've ever seen. Amazing show, great venue, great energy
Great venue, great seats, awesome show. Really cools special effects, talented live band, and Anderson Paak was so energetic and wonderful.
Such a truly talented artist and born performer. I didn’t know every word but I was entirely engaged the entire time, which is hard to do. Would definitely see this show again.
Anderson tore the roof off of the joint. Either all his shows are this live or he waa ridimg a grammy high but either way he gave us the greatest of malibu, venice, yes lawd, and oxnard. Between the effects and his energy and the crowd reciprocating..he made Hammerstein feel like MSG and it was nothing but love.
Anderson Paak is so electrifying. He immediately grabs your attention and connect with his audience. He gets you up and moving from beginning to end. His passion and energy is infectious as he truly loves what he is doing. I also love how he greatly appreciates his band and allows then to shine as well. The way the lighting and affects were done make his transitions from stahe to drumset seem magical. It was a very cohesive show which i very much appreciated even though i would still love his performance without the affects. It's ANDERSON PAAK!
One of the most talented artists out there, possibly the best contemporary performer. Anderson .Paak deserves every bit of recognition he gets.
I wasn’t super familiar with his music, however, I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be looking for future performances!
From the opening to the end, Anderson.Paak & the Free Nationals did not disappoint! Don't want to share to much but if your plan on seeing him during his Andy's Beach Club Your, wear your dancing shoes!!
Anderson .Paak was the best concert I’ve been to yet. His show was electric. Him and the free nationals are amazing together.
I really enjoyed my experience at this concert. Anderson Paak came out on time and he gave a great show from start to finish. The meet and greet was pushed back until after the show but he was very kind and saw everyone. He is the true definition of an Artist and we as people are lucky to have him.
What a show!!! He was very engaging, played a long set and the music was fire. Just go.
Anderson Paak knows how to put on a show, One of the best concerts i've been too!
Anderson .Paak put on an AMAZING show and the venue was nice, the only thing that bothered me was all the movement there was once his show started. People walking back and forth to the bar/concession stand was really distracting and made it really difficult to fully enjoy the show. I feel like maybe the bar should’ve been closed after a certain time.
