About

Anderson .Paak in Concert

Presenting the artist in a top hat and plaid boxer shorts as he plays piano in the surf amid a smattering of objects like an old-school record player, the surreal cover image for Anderson .Paak's breakthrough album perfectly suited its wildly inventive contents. Full of witty, unpredictable songs and styles that ranged from ‘60s soul to ‘90s hip-hop to vanguard R&B, ‘Malibu' became one of 2016's most acclaimed albums, establishing its creator as a maverick whose imagination can seem virtually limitless. Along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the album earned Anderson .Paak another Grammy nod for Best New Artist along with similar acknowledgements at the Soul Train Music Awards and the BET Hip Hop Awards.

All that marked a long journey from Anderson .Paak's first foray into music, which was playing drums in church growing up in Oxnard, California. After coming to Los Angeles, he sought to establish himself as a session musician while creating his own sounds under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. His fortunes rose when he began working for Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the revered L.A. hip-hop duo and production team. His new confidence inspired him to drop his former handle in favor of Anderson .Paak, a stylized version of his real name. The buzz got louder with the release of his wildly diverse debut, ‘Venice' (2014), and his contributions to albums by Dr. Dre and The Game. And while he fully proved his capabilities with ‘Malibu,' it was ‘Yes Lawd!' (2016) by NxWorries – his duo with producer Knxwledge – as well as shows with his band The Free Nationals that confirmed he's just as compelling with close collaborators on hand as when he's pursuing his singular vision.

His third album and first since signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, ‘Oxnard' sees Anderson .Paak introduce yet more colors in his palette, beginning with Technicolor textures, carnivalesque soundscape, and his own exuberant flow in "Bubblin'," the album's first single. And with his return to stages with The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak is ready to make good on his reputation as one of the exciting new talents in hip-hop and R&B.

    True artistry does still exist

by DRich226 on 6/24/16House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The energy in the venue was very contagious. Everyone was there to have a good time and hear some great music. Anderson.Paak took the stage and delivered just that. I listened to his album "Malibu" once prior to the show, but will be going back for more listens as I gained new appreciation after the concert. I knew he was a great vocalist, but I wasn't aware that he was a talented musician as well. He killed it on the DRUMS while singing! - @_D_Rich

    Anderson. Paak was horrible!!!

by Cowboyfan23 on 6/24/16House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

First off I'm a fan of Anderson Paak and I was extremely excited to see him perform live. But from the beginning the concert went down hill fast. The opening acts were just dreadful, to start there was some DJ that played for over an hour some weird mix of house music on a dark stage which totally killed the vibe of the crowd. The second act was some rapper from the UK who you couldn't understand what she was saying because she was talking so fast and the sound quality from the House of Blues was awful. Finally Anderson hit the stage around 10:30pm after 2.5 hours of listening to these terrible opening acts, and I hate to admit this but his performance was mediocre at best. Between Anderson. Paak screaming in the mic indiscipherable songs and random drum solos, I ended up leaving 30 min into his performance I just had enough. I'm a House of Blues fan and I love a majority of the concerts I have seen there, but from the poor sound quality and the sub-par performers this was by far the best he worst concert I have ever seen there. I will continue to go to the House of Blues in future for concerts but I will definitely not recommend anybody spending money to go see Anderson. Paak.

    Disappointed Fan

by Shae246 on 6/20/16The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

The doors opened at 7:30pm and the show was supposed to start at 8:00pm. However, Anderson .Paak didn't even hit the stage until well after 10pm. Around 8:15/8:20 some DJ came on the stage and was playing music that was so out of touch from what the audience wanted it might as well have been elevator music. The DJ barely looked up, which just added to the blissful state of ignorance he was in as the only one jamming to his music. The few moments of redemption were during Little Simz performance, which I was thankful for being exposed to her. Overall, maybe I just value my time more than I valued the show because after waiting for 2+ hours on a Thursday night, the concert was much less than I hopped for.

    Don't Miss Out

by TDab on 6/20/16The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

So glad I had the chance to see Anderson Paak before he gets big (and expensive). If you're looking for high energy from beginning to end, live music and a good time then you won't want to miss his show.

Opener were poor. Not worth the wait for what he did. He is good but plenty of room to improve. Very much worth the low ticket price but not worth the wait
