Terrible Sound

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.
Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season!
The New York Times raves, “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a triumph! Pure joy!” and the Wall Street Journal declares, “Once you’ve seen it, you’ll find it hard to settle for less ever again.” Don’t miss this stunning Broadway hit when it arrives in Chicago on its first national tour!

Was so looking forward to seeing one of my all time favorite musicals! What could be better than an evening of Gershwin and romance. The sets were interesting , the orchestra was terrific, the music sublime - but- the male and female leads had absolutely no chemistry. It was actually uncomfortable to watch. She looked like she was 12 years old and he looked very silly trying to fake attraction to a woman. I expected him to run off with one of the other male characters at the end. It was actually uncomfortable to watch. I've seen about 8 plays in New York and Chicago this year . This was by far the worst. Save your money.
This was a fantastic show! I loved the dancing and there was a lot of it! The set was creative and always changing. There was great acting, singing, and dancing and I would go see the show again! I highly recommend it!
Everything about this play was perfection! The music was wonderful, the dancing/ballet was excellent and the sets were fantastic. It was a joy to see!
we all loved it...everything was wonderful and who doesn't enjoy music by Gerschwin
Fine dancing, acting, and singing! And the book by Craig Lucas elevated the show, bringing all the elements suggested in the classic movie into a coherent, compelling story. Everything worked. Choreography. Lighting. Scenery. Costumes. You name it. I feel like I saw the real "An American in Paris." What a wonderful afternoon at the theater!
The dancing was beautiful. Costuming and sets were wonderful and singing by the men's Trio was wonderful.
Attended the Saturday, August 5, matinee performance of American in Paris (Chicago) When it was over, I wanted to go again! Marvelous performances all around. Caitlyn Meighan, in the role of Lise for this performance, was truly enchanting. Loved the entire production. Who could ask for anything more!!! Bravo!
I went to this show without knowing anything about it. I was pleasantly surprised at the ballet dancing in the story. My husband is not such a fan of ballet, and at the same time he enjoyed the show anyway. Show is a bit of dialogue, singing and dance.
I attended 2:00 PM Sat. and couldn't recommend it more. I came in hopes of seeing an outstanding musical. And it was. I would not have come to a show to see ballet; it was completely unexpected and, even more surprisingly, an amazing experience that left me awe-inspired and astounded with a new appreciation and respect for the unbelievable skill and talent involved. The male stars that played Jerri and Henri, (McGee Maddox & Nick Spangler) came through with their incredible singing voices and, though, I ignorantly thought male ballet was nothing more than support casting for the ballerina (wrong wrong wrong!), I was impressed by how affecting, strong, masculine, complex and mind-blowing male ballet could be. In my mind, much more difficult to pull off than the best-of-the-best tap dancing. Likewise, watching Sara Etsy dance was as calming and as fluid as observing the gentle rise and fall of waves breaking on the shores of lake Michigan. Yes. Beautiful. Mesmerizing. The cast deserves much more recognition than I can provide. Great singing and acting. The audience gave them a well deserved standing ovation. I highly recommend this show over any other you might even consider seeing in Chicago! Again, outstanding! (Why is the play only in Chicago for 3-weeks?)
Visual aspects of the show, dancing/choreography, set, video, light and costume design, were the real standouts. Not very original orchestrations or arrangements of the music, but they cast sounded good.
I was in Chicago for the weekend to visit the Art Institute of Chicago to see the Gauguin exhibit (it was wonderful). Saw that An American in Paris was there for a limited engagement and bought a ticket. The performances were fantastic! The theater is charming. It was delightful experience that I recommend to all.
Fantastic show. Gershwin and dance. Who needs anything more?
Superb choreography. Decent singing and so so acting, particularly the Jerry Mulligan character. Great dancer, but no real passion or connection with Lis. Loved the Adam character.
Great musical - somewhat like the movie but with a more expanded plot, great musical numbers and excellent dancing.
The musical is very well made. Dancers are great, my wife and I liked the performance a lot. Songs are ok but not exactly memorable.
The Oriental Theater was a great place to watch this Musical. The acting, dancing and singing was fabulous. It was a pleasure to watch. Recommending to all my friends.
The scenery, costumes, singing and amazing(!!) dancing were all perfectly executed. An evening that transported the viewer to another time and place with an uplifting story.
I, age 80, love George Gershwin's music. My daughter and three grands, ages 10, 11 and 12 were enthralled with the dancing. These young girls were on the edges of their seats the entire performance and very much into the story. At intermission they discussed who they thought would get the girl. A most marvelous production. We all felt lucky to be there.
It was a nice show, especially the dance part, the singing part was not too outstanding though. The most impressive part was the stage set. This is one of the most amazing set I have ever seen in a Broadway show. Very lovely. Definitely recommended.
