AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.
Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2015 season!
The New York Times raves, “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a triumph! Pure joy!” and the Wall Street Journal declares, “Once you’ve seen it, you’ll find it hard to settle for less ever again.” Don’t miss this stunning Broadway hit when it arrives in Chicago on its first national tour!
We loved this musical. It was as good as the musical.
Absolutely the very best- better than the broadway show that we saw when it first opened. NOT to be missed. Sorry it's not here longer, would like to go again.
The marvelous talent of the cast was highlighted by scenery which came alive in synchronized movements. Loved it!!!
An evening with my wife walking the streets of Paris. The music, the acting, the choreography and the designs were amazing. We were taken away to Paris for the evening and it was quite enjoyable. A must see for everyone.
If you like great music and dancing...this is a must see!
Having never seen the entire movie, I came to this production with fresh eyes/ears. Excellent show, made better by great orchestra seats, in a great venue. I would strongly recommend this show, for all ages, really.
Any show which features music by Gershwin attracts me. A few years ago I saw "Crazy for You", a vehicle for the music. It was excellent musically, although the book/story has little to praise. "An American in Paris" presents a completely different approach, Knowing little about it, except for its reputation, I expected a reworking of the film and was overwhelmed by the beauty of its presentation as a ballet! The cast of the production in Chicago held us entranced. The dancing of the leads could not be better, even though the male lead (an understudy) had a voice which was not as polished as that of the other principles. The dance scenes blended with the sets---a combination of projections and "hard" props---seamlessly. I was a bit disappointed that "Our Love Is Here to Stay" was not included, a small matter which did not distract from the quality of this brilliant show.
Fantastic show. Projected and moving stage is unbelievable interesting. Always, beautiful music with live orchestra. Voices of singers, wow!
There have only been a few shows where the music, dance and story come together as well as in this show. West Side Story and Chorus Line are the two that most immediately come to mind, but the dancing in this show excelled even the best of the multiple productions I have seen of those two classics.. Solid cast, immensely likeable leads. The dance talent assembled for this particular production was amazing. For those who are fans of the movie, I llike the changes/additions to the story even better for this live production.
Had not totally expected the dancing. Took my girlfriend and her grandson. She had lived in Paris. He is 16 and thought he would be bored but he said he just loved it, one of his favorite things while visiting from Virginia. I am 73 and have learned to enjoy all the variety of entertainment but was set aback by the superb dance routeens.
The main male character appeared to be dancing with and for himself the entire performance even when he had a dance partner. The singing by both male and female leads was not the quality I expect from a production at this theater Their voices were weak. The choreography was redundant in its moves throughout.
Fans of ballet will enjoy the show. I found the book of the play to be disjointed and disappointing.
My best description is "A Gershwin Ballet". Love Gershwin and if you also love ballet, you'll love this show.
Top notch performances all around. Great joyful energy. Love love love!
If you're a fan of ballet you might enjoy this, as the dance and choreography we're very good. Everything else, the singing, the story, and the humor fell painfully flat. We as well as several others left halfway through as it simply was not good. If you're gonna go I'd recommend getting discount tickets.
The female lead carried the show. The gent who played the rich Frenchman was wonderful--hated the lead--too lumpy and large
An American in Paris was a joy to watch and listen to. Music is timeless, dancing was superb and the set design was breathtaking.
An American in Paris is a marvelous production that combines the music of Gershwin with the dancing and singing talents of a professional cast. Staging is impressive. Highly recommended.
We had never before seen this staged and had only the movie to compare, but this production is amazing. The dancing is superb: Gene Kelly would approve. The set and staging is what impressed me the most, and that's something I'm not usually aware of. The swirling screens and props glided across the stage and segued into the next scene with no seams. All this and Gershwin, played by a small orchestra up to the task of the music composed by arguably the best American composer in history.
